I hope she isn't melting..... it has been hot here in NH - 97 yesterday

I bet it was even hot in Moose Armpit

Speaking of moose I saw one today..... he was wading in the reservoir eating lilies - a bunch of people had stopped to watch and take picture - he just kept going about his business like noone was around!

hi there! Yes, I've been AWOL..........busy at work, busy at home, and putting up with a dying computer. Finally got dd#1's room fixed up (spackled, primed, painted, our old bed assembled - platform bed - and new linens, pillows and quilt on it, new curtains hung, rearranged/juggled furniture around......just have to get some artwork for the walls), but discovered I have to keep the door closed because one of the cats barfed up a HUGE hairball and breakfast on the brand new quilt that hadn't even been on the bed for 24 hrs!!

Ah well, also been going through closets, drawers, etc. and weeding out old clothes that don't fit or haven't worn in a while. Thus far, I've filled up 2 large trash bags, PLUS a construction-sized trash bags of clothes dd#1 left behind (am giving that bag to our friends for their 2 dds)

Work has been keeping me pretty busy, thus no time to play here during the day. Just hired 2 new telemarketers, so I've been sort of keeping my eye on how they're doing as well.

Anyway, I've lurked a bit just to see how everyone is doing - when I get the chance. Like I said - the computer is on its last legs. Keeps freezing up and we have to turn it off all together, which is definitely not a good thing. I've managed to get all my files backed up (pictures, genealogy, documents, etc.), despite having the freezing issues. just lucky, I think....

Well, back to the closet to do more weeding...........Happy weekend, and thanks for keeping me from sinking to page 149!!

***opens door...........peeks inside...........pphhhhhhhhh...blows away cobwebs.....***

sigh.....same song, new year. Will be starting from square one (phase 1?) after the 1st (will have ds and his friend up from Brooklyn to work for their candidate of choice in the NH primary). Have gone back to old, destructive habits, ballooned up to about where I was initially - if not higher (will not get on scales until the do-over day.) DH will be doing his own thing - insists on Slimfast, and I cannot dissuade him from this - so we'll at least be working toward the same goal. Weight loss and fitness. My rt. knee has been killing me for no particular reason. His left foot has been bothering him. Both ailments are weight related, I'm quite sure. Not good.......

Life has been incredibly busy, hectic, and much too convoluted to get into here. DD#1 has been home for the holiday with her DBF. It is so wonderful to have her home - didn't realize just how much I would miss her. She has turned into a pretty incredible young woman. DD#2 is giving us fits, but I won't go into that (a lot of my reason for turning to food for comfort). DS is doing well - was also here for Christmas. A full house this year, that's for sure.

Anyway, I've been looking for journals and wondering what has been going on here. I've gotten bits - n - pieces out of various places..... the board was down for a few months? there was some sort of troll around driving people away? If anybody reads this and can enlighten me, I'd sure love to know.

I hope all had a blessed Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year to come.

xxooKaren

Hi Karen! Sorry to hear about the return to square one and the kid issues. Let's just make 2008 the best we can then! :)

As to what happened, it is basically this. Given the screen everyone was getting when they tried to access the site, it was somesort of database corruption issue in the underlying database that runs the board. Newer versions of the software exist, but are not in place here apparently. Anyway, the phpBB software that runs this board is very common and those in the know were able to go to phpBB troubleshooting sites and find out how to fix it, but noboady except our system admin, sbdiet, has actual access to the inner workings of the board. (the mods can just edit, delete, move and ban for the most part) She doesn't ever access the forums so she would never get the error message to know it was down. With the board down, there was no way to PM her and emails to her standard email addy and to the webmaster address on the rest of the site (did you know the forum was just part of a larger (but very outdated) sbd type site?) were bounced back with mailbox full messages. There was little to do but sit and wait. My theory is that at some point, the ad revenues would drop off from no one accessing the site at all and she would notice. Whether that is what actually got her to notice or whether she just picked up emails or what we will never know. But the fix is relatively simple with the proper access and presumably she did that and got it back up and running again.

The most common theory was that the official SBD police shut down the site due to proprietary info being used here, but Kimboroni said on another site that we are some kind of affiliate, I think because we post the links to the official site at the top of many of the forums and on the main site as well, so they get some ad revenue and click thrus from us presumably. So I didn't think that was the case. We've had the same info up for years and they never came after the site before. I hadn't heard the troll thing at all.

Many of us were already at Nessa's SBD Friends forum she set up last summer after the latest board blowup and many here who hadn't made that move drifted over there as well. It's at http://southbeachfriends.net/forum/ if that interests you at all. It's a bit more chatty/friendly and a bit less informational perhaps, but lots of the long timers here are there as well. They've got the latest phpBB software either running or about to be installed and some other features this place doesn't like blogs, email addresses, lots of smilies, and perhaps soon a separate recipe area. recipelover has decided to move much of her database of recipes over there since it has an active owner and someone who is there taking care of it on a regular basis. Not trying to "sell" it too much, as everyone should just be where they are most comfortable and both places are good and have their own aura and style. She's not trying to remake this place over there as it was never supposed to be a replacement for it. It just got busier there when this place was inaccessible.

Anyway, that is the very long version! You know me! ;) Welcome back and good luck with the next go round! We're always here (or there) if you need us!

Thanks for the catch-up info RedRox! Like I said, I breezed through journals to see if I could find out what had happened (last posts for so many old friends were in October). I thought I read something about someone posting nasty things - reminded me of Paula, Ball, etc. and wondered what the heck was going on. I will check out Nessa's website and see what's up with everyone.

Karen

Restarted P1.5 yesterday and doing well so far. A little touch of grumblies this morning, but ah well. I had some cheddar and celery sticks to stave off the hunger and will eat lunch in a bit. Started exercising again this morning - not much, but just enough to let my body know that I'm back in charge! (15 min on the TM, some weights and some crunches on the balance ball).

To any old friends who are still posting here, please feel free to PM me to say hi...........I do miss you all and if you haven't found Nessa's new board, try it. I'm posting more over there since it's more reliable (when I click on my bookmarks, it's there........can't say that always happens here! :( )
