I must be a freakin' genius. My ankles swell in the hot weather. It helps when I exercise. Hmm, how about if I break my exercise into two sessions, morning and evening so that maybe my ankles won't look like water jugs at the end of a day with a morning workout?

Aren't I clever? I mean, I've only had this problem since my teens, for crying out loud! So, several decades! And I just now figure this out. Good grief! :?

So an easy 30 minute walk this morning, another easy walk and weights tonight. It's going to be difficult to tell, however, if it helps as the weather has also cooled off today. Highs in the 50s. But I'll try and get in the routine of it so that when it warms up again, I'll be ready for it.

My thighs and butt are so weak, it's a wonder I can walk. When did my butt muscles get too weak to life my own body weight? How can that even happen? Must remedy.

Got started on that today, did 2 sets of 10 of leg extensions, curls, and squats. It's a start.

Jennifer's swimming career may not yet be ka-put. Her H.S. coach "just happened" to mention to one of the other girls that he didn't think Jennifer was going to swim next fall. So she cornered Jennifer at school yesterday and was begging her to turn out! This girl is so cute, she is hard to resist...even for another girl! So Jennifer said if Maren begged hard enough, she would probably turn out. I suspect Maren will get some of the other girls to beg as well. Then today she got her first recruiting letter from a college coach...very flattering. True, it's a Div III school, but you have to keep in mind that Jennifer is only 5'3" tall. Hardly Div I material. So I think she is beginning to see a swim "career path" beyond H.S. that she didn't see before.

I was okay with her quitting; actually it has been quite nice having my evenings back. But it was also a shame for her to quit after devoting so much time to it and she does have talent. The best part of her not swimming, though, is the fun workout parties we have some week nights. So here's hoping she doesn't decide to go back full-time. Oh, yeah, and I don't mind saving about $5K a year, either!

A productive trip to Whole Foods. Got quinoa (I knew I could get it for less than 3.89 a pound, for crying out loud!), amaranth, brown jasmine rice (so three gluten free grains), garbanzos and some unsweetened coconut flakes. The coconut is for an idea I have to make SB trail mix. I'm going to try it soon so that I'll know what I'm doing before I next go hiking. It's quite a drive to Whole Foods, about 15 miles, which doesn't sound so bad but traffic sucks, so it's a good thing I have to go to Redmond every day anyway to pick up work.

Now, off to C25K.

Hi Paula! Just linked to your journal from another post and let me just say - you can do it! I so admire that you're working on the C25k. I haven't been working out the past few weeks and you're one of my motivations to get my tail back into the gym. Keep it up!!

Thanks! It's hard for me, I have 50+ years of couch potato-ness to overcome, lots of hang ups and fears and feelings of inadequacy related to exercise and sports. But I'm coming along. I feel like if I can get going, anyone should be able to. So get going!

"...and let us run with patience the race that is set before us..."
Hebrews 12:1

Taken out of context, but seems so appropriate.

The scale ain't loving me these days, so I think it's a good idea to review how far I've come in just under 6 months.

January 1, 2007
Weight: 187
Bust: 40"
Waist: 36-1/4"
Hips: 43-1/4"
I walked 1.36 miles in 32 minutes. My warm-up pace was 2.2; my top speed was 2.8. I made a note that the workout was horrible with cramping in my calves.

January 22, 2007
1 mile @ 22:52

February 16, 2007
1 mile @ 19:56 I was so excited to be under 20:00.

Feburary 22, 2007
1 mile @ 17:58

March 28, 2007
Started C25K

April 11, 2007
1 mile @ 16:58

May 1, 2007
1 mile @ 16:23

May 8, 2007
1 mile @ 15:35

May 11, 2007
1 mile @ 15:00 This was the first continuous mile I ever jogged in my entire life! (And my only continuous mile so far.)

May 28, 2007
1 mile @ 14:43

June 1, 2007
Weight: 157
Bust: 37"
Waist: 31-7/8"
Hips: 38-7/8"
My time for the mile continues to improve. My warm-up speed is 3.0 mph, my top walking speed is 3.5; running speed is 5.0. I can maintain a speed of 3.2 @ a 7% incline for 15 minues.

June 7, 2007
1 mile @ 14:27

June 14, 2007
1 mile @ 14:15

Reviewing my progress is a good thing. I refuse to allow myself to become discouraged when I've come so far.

one of the reasons I log my weight daily (or almost daily) is so that i can go back and look at where i was a year ago... six months ago... a month ago.... the day to day loss is so slow as to be imperceptible and that's so disheartening...

so we need to look at the long term stuff.....

I weigh daily but I only write it down once a month. So far this month, that's a good thing...no loss at all so far, but I have hope as my weight, which, of course, is up and down daily, is stabilizing at the lower end of that range. So hopefully a loss soon just to keep me interested. My big mistake the first time I tried SB was not tracking my measurements closely enough so when my loss leveled off then, I didn't have anything to keep me going.

Paula...you've made excellent progress since January....you're averaging 1.25 lbs a week...thats great!! :D

There are many reasons that you have not lost for 4 weeks...I can only guess...but after losing 30 lbs, your body could very well be at a set point...and it will take a few weeks and some adjustments to your food quantities to get it moving again...but have faith that it will move again!!
274/150/160 lost 124 lbs

Thanks for the encouragement, Judy. I've thought about a set point...I haven't weighed appreciably less than my current weight for at least 15 years, and during that time, this was probably my most common weight as well. Which certainly makes the set point thing seem likely. That being said, I would sure like to lose some more actual FAT before my daughter's wedding. At this point, I would feel very uncomfortable wearing anything strapless or sleeveless.
