IBS

Postby new beginnings » Sun Jul 16, 2006 5:16 pm

I have IBS...actually quite bad. Lately tho not so much!! What I figure is whats happening is since I have added 1 1/2 cups of PLAIN S/F Yogurt to my diet EVERY day it has basically stopped. Last night I had a late bowl of salad and was to full for my yogurt and today....boom! I have noticed salad seems to be a trigger but the yogurt I am sure definately is a key factor in my IBS being under control. It's great! I can go any where now with out have to map out the bathrooms first and if I want to have something to eat I can finish my meal with out having to run to the bathroom halfway through. It really has been a lifestyle change. Not only am I loosing weight but the other health benifits of this WOE are fantastic!....sorry to babble on so much!

i would like to add that for the benefits of the yogurt, it is wise (as you are) to not mix any kind of sugar with it (fake sugar, fructose, anything). this will make the bacteria sedentary. because you have ibs, you want those babies to go to work. :)

Hello

Another IBS sufferer here....although mine is more only a symptom of abdominal pain/discomfort....Luckily, having to run to the bathroom often is not.

I'm still trying to figure out why I only have symptoms of IBS when I'm following a 'healthy carb lifestyle'....

I'm looking into the dairy (which contradicts what I just read on this thread - LOL)....but I do know that my salad and raw veggie intake increases dramatically when on this WOE for me (being a vegetarian)...and it's known that raw veggies/roughage is harder to digest. Perhaps that's the culprit for me.

interested to know more about benefits of yogurt! :)

hi there - my hubby suffers from IBS. although he's in denial - and therefor not on any medication for it. you guys mentioned that yogurt tends to help with the symptoms - is this correct? if so - which types of yogurt seem to work best? anyone tried Dannon Activia? I'm wondering if that would help? Is that even SB friendly? thank you in advance for any feedback you might have!

Like many others I suffer from the IBS with all of the symptoms.
One of my main 'triggers' is lettuce, so the SBD has been
killing me!!!
Hard to tell if i am losing any weight when I am sooo distended.
I haven't tried the plain yogurt as I thought it might taste pretty
bad without berries or sugar anyone have any thoughts on
what, if anything, to do???

Another IBS sufferer here -
Yes, salad is most definitely a trigger. I don't mind the frequent trips to the bathroom, but the PAIN is a bummer.
I would say for the first 2.5 weeks, I suffered more. Yogurt does help (try FF, SF Jello powder in it or Da Vinci SF syrup in there to flavor it). BUT the biggest help was adding a banana during the first week of Phase 2. Some kind soul here suggested it, and it has really worked wonders.
Best of luck to you!
