You are sedentary, but fat cells burn calories too, albeit much more slowly. Big people eat more food and as big as you say you are you are going to have higher caloric needs than someone half your size, and probably about the same as someone half your size and pretty active. There is just a lot of you to feed.
With that being said you will have to decrease your intake as you lose weight. Have you figured out what your daily caloric needs are now, and how they may change as you shrink? Your weight will probably come off pretty fast at first but as you shrink you need to have a plan.
And I would encourage you to do what exercise you can, even if you start really small, like a 5 minute stroll with your wife and/or kids before dinner just to get in the habit. Your weight will be hard on your joints so you don't want to do much, but you don't want to lose muscle along with that fat. In fact if you can maintain your muscle as you lose weight you will probably be pretty strong. It takes some serious muscles to carry around that weight!
have you discussed your weight loss plan with your doctor?

Today is off to a great start. Although I did wake up a bit later than I would have liked (11 am). I skipped breakfast which I know is a no-no but did have some plain yogurt before heading out to get my haircut. Had a nice conversation with an Iranian woman who cut my hair, talking about the current issues regarding her home country, it was very enlightening. The haircut on the other hand could have been better but you can't have everything I suppose.
Came home with some ingredients for tonights dinner which my lovely wife has decided to cook up for us from a recipe she found here. I believe it's a chicken and broccoli casserole which sounds delicious and even better is ok for us in phase 1. After dropping off the supplies I changed my clothes and headed to the gym with mp3 player in hand. Spent about 5 minutes in the dry sauna and came out and stretched for another 10 minutes. I felt great after the stretching and warmed up with 5 minutes on the recumbent bike and then did 20 minutes on the treadmill. Only did 3 miles an hour with the incline set at 1 but seeing as how I am just getting back into it after 6 or 7 months away from it I didn't want to rush things and hurt myself and be out of comission.
Came home from the gym and had 2 large glasses of water, a SBD prepared frozen meal and a delicious salad. Feeling great atm and looking forward to tonights meal with the wife.
Meal Plan:
B - skipped (bad monkey)
S - plain yogurt
L - SBD Chicken and green beans almondine w/side salad
S - hard boiled egg
D - chicken and broccoli casserole
Oh yeah, and I did have a discussion with my doctor about diet and he readily approves of me being on the SBD. Have been referred to a nutritionist to make sure I am getting enough of the things I need to keep me going.

Sounds like you are doing well! Sounds like you are approaching the exercise with the right attitude and doing a lot with it. Good for you, and good luck in the future!

Today is off to a decent start. Woke up and DW had some scrambled eggs already cooked up. We are both excited as today is our last day on phase 1. Looking forward to introducing some cereal to the diet tomorrow. I have a box of All Bran sitting on the counter, waiting, mocking me...it will pay for its insolence tomorrow morning. Although at 1/2 a cup per serving it's going to take me the better part of 2 weeks to make it learn its lesson.
I've already matched yesterday's water intake and it's not even noon yet. DW is out taking our daughter to dance class and when she gets home she's gonna drop her off and head to the gym. I am really proud of her resolve. This is the longest she's stayed true to a weight loss regimen and it seems as though it has really become a part of her lifestyle. The fact that she is doing so well has really motivated me to stay true to the guidelines of the SBD and continue going to the gym myself. It's really nice to have support, whether it's here on the forums or sitting next to you in the same room.
Meal Plan:
B - 2 scrambled eggs
S - 2 celery sticks w/unsalted TJ's pb

See ya'll on phase 2 tomorrow

BP, my DH and I do the SB together and I must say it has been so much easier to have that support so I know what you mean. We started in May and since it was nice weather, we walked together. That was so nice to spend time walking and talking. Kind of slacked off on that in the cold weather, but am looking forward to getting back on our routine soon. You and MamaK are doing so great. Keep it up!

Thanks, Dene and MathChick!
Although I shouldn't really be the one saying thanks on my DH's journal. But he's a bit under the weather and didn't post today.
But I want to announce for him that
he's lost 16 POUNDS!
Yay for my Abano!!!!!!!

Hey BP! I just wanted to drop by and say how wonderful I think it is that you have lost 16lbs!!! That is great!
MamaK and I talk frequently about exercise and other things, and it is wonderful that you two are doing this together...my DH has all kinds of tempting food in the house, but I just reach for water and veggies, and sometimes it is so hard...he is now at least trying to keep his things hidden so I don't have to see them when I open the pantry!
Hope you feel better soon, and congrats again on the 16lbs; that is way cool!
take care,

Ok, so I haven't been diligent in keeping up with my journal. Alright, I've been totally absent for the better part of a month now. However, DW and I have been following the SBD faithfully even though I haven't been posting. And the great news is after a visit to the doctor's office today...
I've lost 45 lbs from the 1st of January when we began SBD.
The great part is that I don't feel like I'm sacrificing anything, eating this way seems to be a natural part of our daily lives. The way I feel is motivation enough to continue on with this lifestyle but the weight loss isn't a bad side effect.
Anyway, just checking back in and saying hi.
