Maybe someone else can chime in on this, but I guess some of us (myself included) get discouraged or disappointed when faced with truth of not losing anything during phase 1. After reading the book and listening to many accounts of people who do lose a considerable amount of weight (IMHOA). If I lost 14 lbs during phase 1 I would be almost half way to my overall goal. So I can see where some people may freak when we hear a lose of 8-13 lbs during phase one, its almost as if 8 lbs is the min. norm. So having done phase 1 before and shed less than 5 lbs I can see where people may be disappointed. After all it was only a few days since we were enjoying everything our hearts desired. When we start phase 1 of SB we basically go cold turkey on our old diet and make a drastic 360 in our diet routine. So having done those changes we are hopeful to see a drop of weight in the estimated range.
I can attest that I found the change every difficult the first couple of days. It was hard to not crave those sweet treats, candy, chocolate, cake, and chips. I didn't consume them in high quantities before, but I did indulge in them. Making that change drove me nuts, I was on a total quest looking for sugar free treats to help me stay good during phase 1. I made some mistake because those sugar free labels are misleading. BUT, I did learn. It's all a learning process and I don't crave those yummy treats as much. I've found alternatives to my old habits that are equally tasty and overall better for my overall health.
Anyhow, that is my POV on it because I've basically felt those emotions on phase 1 the first time and now the second time around.
Maybe others can chime in on their thoughts.
