Best brands of SB items to buy (list your favorites)

Postby recipelover » Fri Apr 15, 2005 3:08 pm

I was so happy when I found this forum for South Beach a long time ago. I not only learned about the diet more by reading the postings, but I learned about good items to buy at the stores.

I thought that maybe we should have a thread with our favorite brands of the foods we use often and that everyone likes. There are lots of different postings of questions about what type of thing to buy. Why not put a list in one place? (and in my recipe summary at the very top in the Diet Basics section)

These are the grocery items that I learned about here on this forum and use often:

Kraft jarred parmesan cheese: great on vegetables, parmesan fish and chicken
LaTortilla Factory tortillas: 12g fiber and makes great wraps, pizzas, Mexican lasagna
Walden Farms chocolate syrup: smoothies, in desserts
Sugar-free instant puddings: lemon, cheesecake, white chocolate, chocolate, butterscotch vanilla
Blue Bunny Fudge Lite bars: great alone or in fudgsicle dessert
Southaven Farms muffin & bread mixes--what a new find
Smuckers Natural Peanut Butter: peanut butter cookies and fudgsicle dessert (a real treat)
Triscuits Rosemary & Olive Oil and regular (0 transfats)
Davinci or Torano flavored sugar-free syrups
Medaglia Dora Expresso Powder: used in desserts and drinks
Paul Newman's Light Balsamic and other dressings
Diet Rite Cola: no caffeine, no sugar, low sodium
(*;*)
I love recipes so I put together the:

Dont forget Bob's Red Mill Whole Wheat Pastry Flour!
Splenda (yes, I use it occasionally)
Hunt's No Sugar Added Spaghetti Sauce (in a can, not a jar)
Pace Picante Sauce (no sugar added)
Bulk steel-cut oats and whole wheat pasta from a local Mennonite market

:) good idea. :)

Whole Wheat Pita Pockets (I get mine from the local Indian bakery)
Carb Well Steak Sauce
Laughing Cow Lite Cheeses
Walden Farms Sugar Free Ketchup
Splenda
Sugar Free Jello
Barilla Whole Wheat Plus pastas. (They are made with part semolina, part whole wheat and oat grains also with chickpea and lentil flours. Pretty neat I thought)

There's more I'm sure, that's just what I can think of immediatly.

This is a great thread! I had actually asked this question myself when I first joined the site. I know names and availibility will vary depending on where people live, but I think it will be very helpful over all.

Here is my 2 cents worth:

Sargento and Kraft make reduced fat shredded cheese
Cabot cheese in bars, 50% light
Popsicles/Fudgesicles sugar free - if you can find the "healthy bunch" variety pack they are made with Splenda and are less calories than the individual packs
Ragu makes a No Sugar Added spaghetti sauce
Ken's salad dressing - I love the light Caeser one
SmartBalance microwave popcorn
Live life like a fried egg...sunny side up!!

We always use:

Cool Whip Lite
Bob's Red Mill Flaxseed Meal and WW Pastry Flour
Kashi Cereal
Alpine Lace Reduced Fat Cheeses
Arnold Light Whole Grain Breads
Dannon Light & Fit Yogurt (with or without fiber)

So many things I can't even think! :?
