How do you fix your yogurt??

Postby RedRox » Tue Mar 15, 2005 11:37 pm

OK, I'm not a yogurt eater anymore, but this seems to be a very common issue here. So I was thinking maybe there oughta be a thread like the oatmeal threads or the other food specific recipe threads with everyone's collective consciousness on how they fix their yogurt and then recipelover and/or Kimboroni could provide links back to it when people are puzzled over how to incorporate SB friendly yogurts into their P1 and P2 meal plans. Maybe even a discussion of types and brands that work for you as well. Please identify P1 or P2 friendly.

To start here is what is allowed in each phase from Kimboroni's FAQ pages:

Phase 1: Fat-free plain yogurt
Phase 2: Artificially sweetened non-fat flavored yogurt (limit to 4 ounces daily and avoid varieties that contain high fructose corn syrup)

And this Q&A from the P2 FAQ page:

Why can't I find "non-fat, sugar-free yogurt" as listed in the book's menus? How do I choose a flavored yogurt?

OK, that's my contribution. Let's get busy people!! :D

Here is my contribution:
The service per day now is the skim/low-fat combined with yogurt is up tp 2 cups a day, not 3.

Plain yogurt is OK in P1.
"lite" yogurt with fruits (4 oz.) serving is Ok in P2.

I buy yogurt sweetened with Splenda and fruits added.
I add more fruits to make a dessert, like tonight I have about 1/2 cup of fresh pineapple (LIMITED), few grapes and 2 Tbs. of "lite" piña colada yogurt. YUMMY

I only eat plain ff yogurt but I change it every day. I use sf syrups (sweetened with splenda) to change the flavor. There are so many syrups you literally can change every day for a month! I also add fresh fruit in season and sometimes slivered almonds or lf granola. Really filling and fresh!

I just posted this on a P1 thread.... BUT... :-)

I hate plain yogurt, but I believe for P1 or P2, you can take the FF plain yogurt and add SF jello powder to it. I highly recommend the black cherry..... You don't need a lot, and it tastes wonderful. (Better than many of the "light/artificially sweetened" yogurts, in my opinion.)

Lots of SF jello options.... lots of new yogurt options!

Phase 2.

I add in fat free/sugar free pudding (usually lemon or banana) Now that I've found Southhaven farms oatmeal pancake mixes, I spread the pancake with the yogurt mixture and add sliced strawberries on top.... wrap it up and eat it on the run for breakfast.

I just added a link to this thread in the Other Desserts section of my recipe summary. Since most of the ideas were desserts, I thought that I would add it there.

The sf jello powder is a great idea. yogurt is what gets me thru the day! I haven't found an artificial flavor that I like yet, but I like lots of the the jello flavors ... will try the black cherry!

Do you make up the pudding first and then mix with the yogurt? or do you add the powder to the yogurt?

I mix 1/4c cottage cheese with 1/4c ff plain yogurt with 1/8c ff flavored, artificially sweetened yogurt with either strawberries or blueberries or mango. The cottage cheese fills me more than just yogurt.

I do the exact same as GettinThere! I am a DaVinci SF syrup addict, too.

Lately, I've begun making yogurt smoothies: 1/2 cup plain LF yogurt, 1/2 cup skim milk, about a cup of frozen fruit, and some SF syrup. Blend w/a hand blender and freeze for a few minutes. My fave combo is frozen strawberries & white chocolate syrup. These taste a lot like milk shakes!

vickl (and anyone else who wants to try it):

add some frozen bananas and a little sugar-free chocolate syrup to your strawberry smoothie. Tastes a lot like a milkshake

MMMmmmm! Frozen bananas! What a good way to keep them from going bad! I suppose you peel them, slice them, then bag 'em up and freeze?

I also break them into chunks before freezing them. I make fruit smoothies with them all the time. I don't always use yogurt; I use milk though most of the time.

My favorite combination: Frozen strawberries, frozen banana chunks, milk/yogurt, Walden Farms chocolate sauce (sometimes I add frozen blueberries). If the strawberries are not very sweet, I sometimes add one packet of Splenda, but that is optional.

I do add some raspberries or recently I bought a bag of frozen mixed berries, but that is not my favorite addition because of the seeds in the raspberries/blackberries. But the taste is good!

It really satisfies my sweet tooth!!! Oh yes, the amount of milk varies according to the amount of fruit that you put it. I need to add some more sometimes just to get my blender to beat the frozen mixture. I also freeze leftovers in tupperware glasses and my husband packs them in his lunches.

I add a little sf/ff vanilla pudding mix to my fruit smoothie. I also add frozen banana. It comes out as thick and creamy as a thick milk shake.
