Thanks to all of you for your crockpot recipes. I just cut and pasted a crockpot cookbook for my brother, who just bought his first crockpot this week.
I am searching for a crockpot recipe for him that I just can't find, I used to make it about 30 years ago, in the stoneage of crockpots. I can remember the ingredients, but not amounts. This is NOT a SBD recipe, but I was wondering if any of you knew of this recipe:
chicken pieces
tomato paste
chopped green olives with pimento
rice
beer
I'm sure it was a Rival recipe, as back then, they were the only ones who made crockpots.
Thanks,
Burdle

I think I still have an old Rival crockpot cookbook. I will check on this when I get a little more time this evening.

salt and pepper

fluffly rice

Rinse chicken pieces and pat dry. Lightly season with salt and pepper. Combine alll ingredients except chicken and rice in Crockpot; stir well. Add chicken piece, coating well; be sure all chicken is moistened. Cover and cool on low for 6-9 hours.

Serve chicken and sauce over hot fluffy rice.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, recipelover! That is pretty darned close to what I remember, except the one I'm thinking of had the rice cook with the chicken, but this is certainly close enough! Too bad it isn't SBD friendly, it was so good. Glad my brother doesn't need to be on SBD. By the way, Girls, he is 56 years old, divorced, father of 3, an all around nice guy, and he can COOK! LOL
Thanks again,
Hugs,
Burdle

recipelover, you inspired me. For fun, I googled Rival CrockPot Recipes, and found a crockpot support site from Rival! It is www.crockpot.com/support/recipedetail.aspx!recipeid=280
this address will take you to this recipe for Spanish Chicken, which I think is the recipe I remember, well, sort of remember:
Spanish Chicken
1 3-4 lb. whole chicken
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 6 oz can tomato paste
1/2 cup beer
1 3-oz. jar stuffed olives with liquid
Place the chicken in the stoneware. Season with salt, pepper, parika and garlic. Mix tomato paste and beer together and pour over chicken. Add olives. Cover and cook on low 8-10 hours or on high 4 to 5 hours. Serve over rice or noodles.
this recipe is from www.crock-pot.com
Guess I remembered it a bit wrong, the rice isn't cooked with the chicken. Now, if someone could just come up with a carb-free beer...or this would be good for P3, as there is only 1/2 cup beer for a whole chicken. Ahhh, if only I wasn't vegan...
Hugs,
Burdle

Burdle, there are a lot of really low carb beers out there. In fact I have seen new TV ads for them. I think there is a Budweiser commercial for the holidays for low-carb beer, but I think Miller and others have one also. Maybe a beer lover will be able to tell us more.

Michelob Ultra Light seems to be the most well known low-carb beer - not that bad either, but only when really cold! Bud light and Miller light aren't that bad carb-wise either! :D

I just posted this under another thread, but I really think it needs to be here too.

CROCKPOT SPLIT PEA SOUP MIX IN A JAR

3/4 c. dried green split peas
3/4 c. dried yellow split peas
1 bay leaf
1 pkg. dry vegetable soup and dip mix (I used Knorr or Lipton vegetable dry mix )
1 tsp. chicken bouillon granules
1 tsp. lemon pepper

Layer the two colors of peas in a pint jar. Slide the bay leaf down the side of the jar. Combine the soup mix, bouillon granuales and lemon pepper and put in a small plastic baggie. Close the baggie and put it on top of the peas in the jar. Close the jar and decorate as desired.

Attach this recipe to the jar:

CROCKPOT SPLIT PEA SOUP (Phase 1)
So easy—only 1 additional ingredient needed

1 jar green & yellow split pea soup mix
6 c. water
1-2 smoked meaty ham hocks or 1 meaty ham bone (Farmland smoked ham hocks work great)

Remove seasoning packet and bay leaf from jar; set aside. Sort and rinse peas thoroughly. Combine peas, water, ham hocks, contents of seasoning packet and bay leaf in slow cooker. Cover and cook on LOW 5-6 hours. Remove and discard bay leaf. Take out ham hocks; remove skin and cut meat from bones into pieces. Return meat to soup. Heat through. (see my suggestion)

Suggestion: pea soup is always better the next day. It has a tendency to separate and by refrigerating it overnight, it gets thicker and can be stirred together easily.

You would have to look at each recipe. Many people indicate whether it is Phase 1 or 2 behind the recipe name. If it is not indicated, look for the following types of ingredients, which would make that recipe Phase 2: fruit, grains, carrots, winter squash/pumpkin (which is also very limited), grains like rice or pasta. If any of those are in the crockpot recipe, it is not a Phase 1 recipe.

I posted this seperately then thought it should go here as well! Here's my original post (with one modification):

Hey everyone! I started this last night and we just had it for dinner tonight. Everyone ate it, even my pickiest eater... The most difficult thing about this recipe was smelling it cooking all day and NOT eating it. ( Okay, I did have to stir it several times!)

24 Hour Turkey Bbq

5 lb turkey breast
2 cups water or broth (suggested by lisalc98 :D)
seasoning
1 bottle (or 2-3 cups homemade) bbq sauce (of your choice)

On the evening before, rince and pat turkey breast dry. Sprinkle with a little poultry seasoning and seasoning salt. Put in crockpot (here's where I realized my small crockpot was too small, fortunately, I have some super strong cooking scissors and managed to cut off the end and get it to fit .) Pour over 2 cups liquid and cook on low 10-12 hours.

Next day, pour contents into strainer over a large bowl (now you have turkey stock for soup!) Seperate meat from bones and skin and such. Put meat in cleaned crockpot with bbq sauce. Cook on low 6-8 hours or on high 3 hours. Stirring randomly.

Serve in SB good rolls, rollups, on salad, etc.
Restarted 3/14/11 directly into Phase 2.
Needing to re-lose 13 lbs.
Current weight loss: 3 lbs (as of 3/20/11)

Crock Pot Busy Day Cassoulet [from thatsmyhome.com]

2 T. olive oil
1 lb. boneless pork loin, cut into bite sized chunks
1 lb. Italian sausage, cut into 1 inch slices
2 carrots, chopped
1/2 C. diced red bell pepper
1/2 C. diced green bell pepper
1 C. chopped onion
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 15 oz. cans cannellini beans, rinsed & drained
1 14 1/2 oz. can diced tomatoes, undrained (I used a can of Italian diced)
1 1/2 C. chicken broth
1/ 2 C. dry white wine (can use a substitute or just more chicken broth)
1 T. minced parsley
2 t. Herbes de Provence (see recipe below that I used)

Add olive oil, add sausage in a pan and cook until browned. Remove to plate. Add pork in small batches and brown well on all sides. Put browned pork and sausages into crockpot/slow cooker.

Add carrots, peppers, onion, garlic, beans, and tomatoes.

In small bowl combine chicken broth, wine parsley and Herbes de Provence. Add to slow cooker. Place cover on pot; cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 2-3 hours.

Herbes de Provence

1 part marjoram
1 part basil
2 parts thyme
1 part summer savory (I skipped this since I didn't have any)
1/2 part lavender (I also skipped this since I didn't have any)
1 part rosemary
1/2 part fennel
1 part oregano

Mix and store. (can put in a food processor to obtain a finer mixture if desired)

Hi all,
I made the chicken cacciatore (spelling?) recipe yesterday and it was to die for. Thank you to the buddy who posted it. The family said they would like to see it as a regular staple. I've been spoiling them with new recipes but they liked this one especially well.
Happy cooking the new way!

On the subject of beer, one of my friends (who is vegan) cannot drink beer... I guess the brewers use fish bladders to clarify the beer! Who would have thought?
