Starbucks

Postby WantToLose50 » Mon Nov 08, 2004 7:46 pm

I love Starbucks. I am just starting the diet today. Can I have Starbucks? Not just plain coffee though. I normally get Sugar Free Vanilla Latte, and if I have it made with 1% milk should that be ok? Or what are some suggestions for Starbuck's drinkers? Please help..that is the one thing holding me back on the diet.
Thanks :D

Starbucks has been posted a ton on this forum. The one sb friendly thing is a sugar free nonfat vanilla latte (or hazelnut, they only have two kinds of sf syrup). Just count it towards your 2 cups of dairy a day.

Enjoy!

If you are drinking hot drinks, the cappuccino is fine as well with the same limitations. Actually there are a bunch of choices as long as you stick to skim milk. (Do they offer a 1% option? If so then that would be OK as well.) Here is their menu copied from their site and pared down to all the basic coffee/espresso/water/milk combinations. Obviously any of these can be decaf as well if you are cutting out the caffeine.

Café Misto/Café Au Lait
Coffee and steamed milk

Caffè Americano
Espresso and hot water

Caffè Latte
Espresso and steamed milk

Cappuccino
Espresso, steamed milk and foamed milk

Espresso
A fresh espresso shot forms three layers: the aromatic cream, the billowing body and the dark, intense heart

Espresso Macchiato
Espresso and foamed milk

Syrup Flavored Latte
Espresso, flavored syrup and steamed milk (Assumes using a SF syrup!)

Vanilla Latte
Espresso, vanilla syrup and steamed milk (Assumes SF vanilla syrup)

And believe it or not, you can actually just get a cup of regular ole' coffee there too!!

You can also get a SF vanilla or hazelnut creme, if you don't like coffee (like me). This is just steamed milk with a shot of SF syrup. I like to get the vanilla one and then spice it up with lots of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Non-fat Latte

Postby mapgal » Tue Nov 09, 2004 2:03 am

I'm into day 2 on Phase 1. And this site is incredibly helpful - so many questions aswered that I couldn't find in the book.
I'm craving a latte. I'd assumed since the milk is non-fat, that everything is OK. Now I'm not so sure. That's all that's in a latte right? Coffee and steamed milk?

What about that yummy chai drink? They made mine with vanilla soy milk, and it was fabulous. I bet the soy milk wasn't sugarfree, though, with that added vanilla. I guess I should check out the website in case I happen to get into a starbucks again!

There's tons of sugar in the chai mix, so I would stay away from that. If you really need a chai fix, however, DaVinci makes a SF chai concentrate that you can use to make chai at home which is quite good.

Thanks, Jenn! I'll have to search for that here in Texas, or if not, online.
I love that stuff! :D

Yeah the chais they sell at coffee places are essentially pure SUGAR  I found sugar free spiced chai syrup at Marshall's the other day. It's Da Vinci brand instead of Torani (I've never seen the Torani before). Also when I want the caffeine I use Tazo chai tea bags. To make a chai latte I just fill my mug half full with water and the teabag and after it's been microwaved and steeped for a while I fill the rest up with milk (micro again) and add some sf davinci's vanilla syrup. It's sooooo good! :D

Starbucks also has just plain chai teabags too. You can just get a chai tea and not the latte.

Thanks for the tips you guys! I can't wait to try these things out. I have a Marshalls in town, I'll have to go see if by chance we'll have the same stuff here.
Have a good night! :D

David Rio makes a few Sugar-Free Chai mixes. They should be acceptable for phase2. they are powder mixes and are not too hard on the palette. you can get them at WorldMarket and there are several vendors selling them on the internet...
