Anyone tried Ezekial bread???!!

Postby shannypoo » Thu Mar 29, 2012 2:44 pm

I just have to let everyone know about this bread. I am day 4 P2. So I wanted my first transition food to be one slice of toast with my eggs in the morning. I read a book recently which reccommended Ezekial bread. It can be a little hard to find. It is always in Whole foods and Trader joes, but I dont have one of those where I live. To my suprise it was in the frozen food isle. It is made with sprouted grain so it has to be kept frozen.

It is the perfect bread for south beach because it on has a GI of 36 which is unheard of for bread. It is made of mainly flax. It has NO wheat or flour. It also seems to keep me full for a long time. I had to force myself to eat lunch yesterday. Anyway, I was just excited to have found a hearty delicious bread which is so healthy and doesn't have flour in it. It also hasn't spiked my sugar and made me want to go on a carb binge.

In the past I have started P2 with a low carb bread and it always leaves me feeling unsatisfied. Just thought I would let you guys know about it incase no has tried it!!

I think it's everywhere in regular grocery stores now. I took a look at the label on the best-seller Ezekiel someting something, multigrain kind a few years ago and I thought it had corn, rice, wheat, etc in it so I wasn't interested. I'll take another look next time I'm in the store, though. :)

It's one of the more popular types of bread, and a good choice in p2. Not everyone likes the texture but many really do. It's chewy and hearty.

Btw, for anyone who has a Trader Joe's nearby, they have a store brand of sprouted bread that's similar but less expensive.

Trying to get motivated again after eating like a pig all winter and gaining weight each week.
FYI on Ezekial bread sold at Traders Joe's in East coast. The bread comes in thawed and has a shelf life of usually no more than 5 days.
You can ReFreeze the bread, but it just does not taste as good as Ezekial bread that's stored in the store's freezers. The company that makes the bread is located on the west coast and delivers fresh to Trader Joe's,.
I recommend purchasing this bread frozen and keeping it in your freezer. Then, just take out a couple slices at room temperature when you're ready to eat.
Just my two cents

I have eaten Ezekiel bread in the past and loved it! Tomorrow my BFF, Shari and I start on day one of P2. We have Dave's Killer Bread in the house and will probably reintroduce bread sometime this week. Anyone tried it? :D
