If you're worried about your protein intake it doesnt neccessarily have to be JUST from food. For example i take optimum gold whey protein. Its royal chocolate flavor, low in sugar like 3grams per shake and its much much tastier then 90% of protein shakes ive had. On phase 2 i tend to take one directly after my cardio/weights just about every day and if im in a super rush or just feel out of it ill just make myself a double serving and end up having it for dinner. Just a thought :D

Ugh!!! I have no time to post here anymore! I tried to post an update the other day but I must have taken too long so that when I pressed "submit" the whole thing went poof, gone.

Super quick update though. January and much of February were spent with me doing really well MOST of the time, and then totally flying off the handle for a day or two. The two days would completely undo the good days. But that's okay. Sometimes getting back on the beach takes some practice but the main thing is to keep trying to get back.

Well, as of last week, I've gone completely vegan. I'm going to try it for six weeks and see how it goes for me. So far, it feels really right in so many ways and I feel energized. I've always been a good veggie eater, but now I've doubled my raw vegetable intake. I'm NEVER hungry! I was worried that I would be ravenous without the animal protein, but I learned that 100 calories of broccoli has more protein than a hundred calories of beef!

I've also not had any wine. In the evening I make a spinach and fruit smoothie and pour it into a wine glass.

Today's weight: 141

Wow Play-doh! That's awesome your body is responding so quickly to eating vegan. I've tried different things over the years, trying to get to the bottom of food allergies - went gluten/dairy free for 3 months - but never tried Vegan. Not sure I could. I like how you compared brocolli to beef...so true!! Keep it up and I'll look forward to checking in with you on your progress when I return from vaca.

My first week of being a vegan was a bit of a trial period and I made a few mistakes, like eating too many grains or too many nuts and nut butters. I'm being more careful now and I'm feeling like I'm losing weight. I'm avoiding the scale, just in case, because I don't want to be discouraged if it insists that I've not any pounds. I'll plan to weigh on April 1st.

I know I've deviated from the SBD way of eating and I hope it's okay that I keep my journal here. I still love SBD and recommend it to people all the time. I think it's a great and reasonable way to lose weight and live. SBD is responsible for teaching me to love my veggies and I am grateful for that!

I know it's not part of the SBD plan - and I owe so much to SBD!! - but I love eating a plant-based diet. It's not necessarily for everyone, but it feels right to my body.

I've struck 140. I think I'm only losing about a pound a month but I have to admit, I've made some mistakes (wine a couple times a week; one day I had cheese; last night I had dessert at a French restaurant...) and also I've not been exercising as often as I should.

I have a project deadline of May 1st and I'm hoping that after that my afternoons will be a little more free for walks and runs. Plus, summer vacation is coming and I always get more active when I'm not in school.

So, maybe on May 1st I'll see 139???

Dearest Play-doh,

You don't know me, but if you don't mind, I'd like to follow your progress. I'm intrigued by the Vegan way. I'm not currently SBD either, so if you go, I'll have to go. I'm sort of in the deciding phase... I think it's P-subzero. ;)

Hi Sharley Bloom (Michelle)!

Well, even if we veer from the SBD way of eating, I hope they'll let us stay here. I love this message board, the wonderful folks here, and I have nothing but great things to say about SBD. Plus, my journal goes back several years and I like having access to the memories of my weight loss (and sometimes gain :( ) journey.

For me, going the vegan route feels philosophically right as well as physically healthy. My daily menu consists of about 90% unprocessed foods. I really like the idea of eating plants as close to their natural, organic state as possible. I'm eating huge raw salads, veggie soups, lots of beans, and raw nuts and seeds.

Every once in a while I do lose control though. Last night, for example, I ate about half a bag of Easter chocolates and promptly fell asleep on the couch. But this morning I ate a huge salad of shredded cabbage, leeks, golden beets, carrots, spring lettuces, cucumber, beans, and about a tablespoon of Annie's Goddess dressing. Feelin' groovy. :)

Sharley, if you want further info about plant-based eating, send me a PM and I'll tell you where I've gotten my information. Although I know everyone's goal on the board is that we each find our own routes to good health, I'm guessing the mods here would prefer that I not accidentally derail anyone's SBD efforts by throwing a wrench in the wonderful WOE that is promoted on this board.

Anyway...

Still hanging at 140.

Hey there! Well, I'm no longer in P-subZero... tomorrow beings P-1... again. I've come to realize in my 50 years, upon great reflection, is that I've become pretty lazy (because I can), and it's just easier to eat foods with ONE ingredient. It's easier to read labels if there's none to read, right!? I'm guessing that puts me square into a majority of the Vegan way. LOL I'm sure it's much more complicated than that, but baby steps. I was never an organic nut (pun intended) nor was I green, until I moved in with my oldest daughter for a couple of years. I don't always feel it's necessary to be either, but I do find that I at least question my choices before I make them. Quite often I answer my question "Why?" with the answer of "Why not?"

So good to meet you! I intend to PM you later today, but if I forget, give me a nudge, eh? THanks!

I haven't been on the scale in a couple of weeks but this morning I put on a pair of jeans that I haven't worn in years because they were too small. And the jeans were loose!

I am looking forward to the scale this weekend!

138! Yay! I've finally broken the 140 barrier!

Now that I'm wearing my old "skinny" clothes, I'm going to stay away from the scale for a while. Over the years, when I've hit the 135 - 138 weight range I tend to stay there for a long time and then get discouraged. After weeks and weeks seeing the scale not moving I give up and start eating badly again. I must stay optimistic that the weight will come off in its own sweet time.

That is awesome! Congrats on the breakthrough! (Now, don't go celebrate with a hot fudge sundae or anything! :D )

Thanks SBMike!!! But you must have jinxed me! You recommended NOT eating a sundae and that is exactly what I did. Not as a celebration, but because I just lost control and ate the dang thing. Oops! I won't do that again, at least not for a long time. I will go check out your journal and see how you're doing. I promise not to jinx you!

Thanks for the encouragement SharleyBloom! I hope you're vegan plan is going well.

So, in spite of a few non-vegan slips that included sugary desserts and too much wine, I am down another pound.

137!!!
