I love Mike's idea. Will surely keep everyone from over indulging!

Chris, good luck w the temp jobs. I know all about the sudden jump in the scale- and usually 2 days later. I just had mine, since on Mon night I ate too many blueberries and some other crap. Yesterday the scale was the same, today UP 3! I think I will just break it and live in peace forever after.

The name of the game is to be ready for all eventualities, and I often fail to think ahead that far.

Have a nice day! Enjoy the great outdoors. The only good thing in NYC is, my office (the one that almost made me bankrupt during reno w the hunk who turned out to be an Oriental-Lolita-loving slime) looks right onto Central Park, and it's like being outdoors in the forest (with people to sub for animals). There is a pair of hawks, Yes, HAWKS, that keep flying above it all and hunting for rats, squirrels and small kids. Pretty wild and very relaxing. And after a long day there, I don't come out feeling that the day has gone and I haven't even noticed.

No wonder you're almost bankrupt, Judi!!! Central Park view?? Low rent district, for sure

I'm liking that there's actually wildlife in the park, that is, other than the type of wildlife that was there in the 80's when I abandoned the city. I do have very fond memories of walks there with DH when we were young and dating, plus all the concerts on the lawn and the Shaeffer Music Festival with $2 concert tickets. I do miss those kinds of things but do not miss the subway, congestion, pollution, spending an hour on line for a movie or to cash a check, and commuting to our affordable apartment in Queens. I also miss ethnic food, though it's getting better here. Not necessarily good for SB!

Well, can't say I have seen flying pigs around here recently, but I do see hawks from my window pretty much daily. (not to mention geese and other flying objects). So if the hawk would pick up a pig...

How did we go from pelicans to flying pigs?? Maybe we just need to toss the scales out the window and see if they fly. So far I didn't really have much of a gain from the weekend, maybe 1/2 lb.

Hit the triscuits again yesterday, with box in hand, always a bad idea. Luckily there weren't so many left - they were rosemary and olive oil ones, affectionately known around here as stuffing triscuits or turkey triscuits. But that was my only grain for the day. WooHoo! I've been very good at resisting DS's bread. Last free loaf comes on Saturday, his last day of work. I've been having him bring home unsliced loaves, wrapping them in foil, and freezing them. So we probably have enough in the freezer for a month or two for DH and DS.

One thing that's been saving me this week is that I bought a huge bag of snap peas at Sam's Club last week and have been having a large fistful of those for snacks. Especially good around 4 when I'm wanting dinner and can't have it yet. Too bad they're probably from guatemala or mexico. Cannot wait for farmer's market season to begin again!

I WILL exercise today. I WILL exercise today. I WILL exercise today.

The joke is that I spent a great deal of time and wasted effort when I was last here trying to convince Ms. Judi to stop weighing herself daily because she was always so miserable while doing it! To hear her say she's ready to give it up, well, I'm just not a big believer. LOL!

  Maybe I'll just come sit on your scale so you can't get to it!

Morning Chris! I looked at the sugar snap peas at Sam's club yesterday, and almost got them. Are they good ones?

Hey Chris-

It is good that you are resisting the bread. Now-stop buying Triscuits...even if they are SB friendly. If I can give up chips-you can stay away from crackers. The peas sound like a good snack. I finally got around to cutting up carrots and celery again to have a stash ready to munch on. Now-I also bought everything I need to make home-made pizza. (non-SB crust, pork sausage, hamburger, real pepperoni, sugar-laden sauce) But-I did not come home and make it-I was hungry-no lunch yesterday. I think it will be my off-plan meal of the week-end. If I think about it while-the power will be mine!

Take care,
Mary Ann

Major crash tonight. Came home from class at 10, after a day of doing volunteer work, being offered an interview for yet another low-paying job, going to my computer class and listening to my IT instructor talk about people turning down $70,000 a year jobs, etc. Want to smack someone. Came home, was starving so made a lf cheese sandwich w/one slice of rye toast and nice mustard, glass of wine. That has turned into 2 glasses of wine, cheese on rye, plus chocolate covered grahams. Will not say how many.

Sharley - I had many conversations w/Judi about the scale back in the day. A whole year or two ago. Used to read your posts but got dizzy after reading JoSuzie's (Spelling?) and finally stopped. Too many....... and :D :D :D and.......made my eyes cross. We need an emoticon with crossed eyes, don't you think?

Really should not post after 2 glasses of wine! Even having trouble w/punctuation.

Bethy, yes the pea pods were good this time. Sometimes they taste like water, but these were sweet and crunchy. Not like height of summer organic ones, but good enough to want to keep eating.

Plan for the day:
Limit wine consumption to ONE glass
Walk outside in the sun, DONE
Find something interesting to do with the serving of lentils I'm defrosting as a side dish for my salmon tonite.
Stay off scale for a few days, especially after last night's debacle. Jeans still zip, so maybe not so bad.
Read everyone's hysterically funny posts as entertainment.
Keep paws out of bread and the brownie's I'm making for the family who lost their mom/wife. My turn to supply dinner for them.

SO glad you didn't mark the FIRST item as "DONE" by 11 in the morning! LOL

Friday the 13th!!!
Got another job rejection, but at least he was nice and actually phoned and discussed future possibilities.
One and a half glasses of wine
Salmon
Green beans
Lentils w/olive oil sprinkle
2 brownies
Waistband of jeans not very comfortable right now.
Need to rethink the wine since it seems to lead to brownies and other indulgences.
Need to stick to my 2 Dove chocolates per day and need to save them for evening treat.

Trouble ahead: 40th b'day party on Sunday. Potluck w/bbq depending on weather, plus I'm sure there will be cake.

Hey Chris, hope your job hunting goes better soon!! Working is good - for me anyway. I like structure, packing my lunch, having the same thing going on every day. You'll get a good job when it's meant to happen. My jean waistband feels tight too.... blah!! Skype is wonderful. Makes the world a much smaller place. So good that you can have that with your kids spread all over.

Thanks, Lisa! I keep just trying to trust that it will all work out in the end in terms of jobs/career. Though I have another interview this week, I'm thinking I'd like to do temp work for a while and am hoping the agency places me somewhere soon. That way I can have more flexibility in terms of when I work. My husband has a very good busy job, but gets 4-5 weeks vacation so I really don't want to start at the bottom rung stuck with little time off. So hoping to find the right fit and meanwhile make some money doing SOMEthing. The economy is still very bad here, pay scale is awful, and most jobs are involved with the tourist industry. During peak season, they expect you to be available 24/7.

Anyhow, dug into the brownies a bit again yesterday, but they're gone now. B'day party today - maybe I can sneak away before the cake, lol! It's a potluck and I'm bringing a veggie dish so I have something healthy to eat. Should probably bring some seltzer, too, so I have something to drink.
