In my personal underworld, crab chips are about the fourth circle of hell and cheezits are the very pit, below the "abandon hope" sign. Both entirely evil and inappropriate on any phase. In Maryland, well, all along the mid-atlantic, we boil blue crabs in a spice blend called Old Bay seasoning. Old Bay has a lot of paprika in it and is not evil by itself but I think the Utz company uses crack to make it stick to the potato chips. The chips are confined to the region around the amtrak line between DC and NYC. Baltimore is pretty much the epi-center of this evil. All those vials of drugs they were selling on The Wire were really just a metaphor for Crab Chips. In fact, I'm pretty sure I saw Wee-Bey and Bodie eating crab chips on My TV right in front of me without sharing. Tangent  Sigh. I can't even tell you in time how long I was out there on the corners getting My fix, it's all a blur after the buy one get one free episode. But I know in pounds: 30. The whole time I never ate off plan Except for crab chips and cheezits (okay, and Christmas). It seemed complicated at the time but it was really just a matter of: small  medium  and large popcorn bowls  crab chips  cheezits. So happy to be back up here safe on the beach, munching cauliflower popcorn and reading your journal. :D THANKS :D

Bethy - stay away from the Asian market. Crab chips are just the start... I'm addicted to shrimp chips.

Too late, jin! i heart shrimp chips too.
Kyan, about that family favorite mozzarella chicken y'all keep eating, Is it in one of the South Beach cookbooks? I'm looking for it but I don't know if I've found the ONE. I ordered the superquick (or superfast ... something) book for the Greek Sloppy Joes. I'm telling my son he has to like it because Your sons did. Boys are nothing but trouble. I kept telling mine: "Why can't you be more like your sister?" Now he's a BRONY.

Jin! Shrimp chips? Never heard of them! You people on the east coast and in the north get all the FUN stuff! You know what WE get? Rocky Mountain Oysters. My sister and her boyfriend actually order those when they go out to a nice restaurant. Please! Bull balls.... and if they aren't deep fried they are probably even BEACHY!! Oh gag me. Such is the life of living in a landlocked location! Fresh fish? What is that? Never had it. Oh - except trout. <snort> No wonder I don't like fish that much.

Bethy - you will LOVEEEEEEEEEE that cookbook! Try the Ham Fricos! And the Lemon Caper Chicken! MMMMM! There are so many awesome recipes in that book - you won't be sorry you bought it! You will think I am lying but we are eating those Greek Sloppy Joes for dinner tomorrow night! I can't remember what veggie - oh yeah, squash with asiago cheese and toasted walnuts. Sooo good! I have to make two batches of the sloppy joes or else there aren't any leftovers for lunch the next day.

We have a computer room - all four of us in the same room on our computers - and I was telling the boys how you got the cookbook because they like the food, etc. etc. and I said "Brony"???? WTH? And my oldest son cracked up and said he was just telling one of the twins about that today! I have never heard of that before! LOL

So I have to clarify something. My daughter and son-in-law are no longer on the Beach - they are cavemen. I knew that.. but they eat other stuff that is "iffy" so it's kind of between the Beach and Paleo. So many of the Beach recipes (especially phase 1) are great for their diet, so it's all good!

For the record - I rowed 5000 meters on Saturday. Woohoo! My back hurt so badly I could hardly straighten up - but once I reached the car I was ok.

This morning I was up a pound. What the heck! I don't understand weight loss at all. Maybe it was the chocolate I ate at the movie. It was 73%, so not too shabby - but I probably ate more than a portion. The movie (Hunger Games) was really good - really depressing, too. At one point I started crying... and of course the theater was dead quiet so I felt embarrassed... but then I could see some people wiping their eyes in front of me so I didn't feel quite so stupid. Even the old guy next to me wiped his eyes and sniffled, so it's all good! I even cried at that part when I read it in the book. (Rue.) I'm such a softy! I could hardly smell the popcorn and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I also brought a peeled orange in a little tupperware container for a snack. I'm such a little Beachy Queen these days! <Twirls in her goody-two-shoes tutu>

I can be a Beachy snob right now because I doubt anyone has fallen flat on their face more times than I have so far on this journey! At least I keep on keeping on!!

Visited with my next door neighbor this evening. I showed her my blisters on my hands from rowing - she thought I was going to church every night when I was heading to the gym. hm... I can't imagine why she thought I would dress like that and carry a water bottle for church! She asked me what man I was trying to look good for. No man - I'm not sure exactly WHAT drives me these days.....!

  What a great way to start my morning, by reading your thread, Ky! You rock for sneaking fruit into the movies, love that! Did you hear the new research that people who eat chocolate weigh less than people who don't!?

Good luck with the kid home this week. We had so many comfort favorites while my son was home - he's a real gravy and mashed potatoes kid, plus I made desserts with real butter and sugar. They're all gone now, thank God!!

My scale is down a bit this morning, not sure if it's a blip or not since it hasn't moved in ages and I've only started being good since Sunday. But I'll take it, and I do feel a lot less bloated. Not a grain has passed these lips. I think I'll try and stay away from them for at least 2-3 weeks, doing my P2 with only fruit and starchier veggies for a while. Love my yams and winter squash. Don't know how long I can last, though.

I think your neighbor needs to start spying on someone else, or else find a nice guy to fix you up with!!

Chris! So awesome about the scale going DOWN!! I love to weigh myself (when the scale cooperates!) because it's such a motivator! Doesn't it just fire you up now, to work even harder? It sure works for me!

What IS it with college boys? They sure like the fattening stuff, and sadly it seems to be our job to keep them happy during those short visits home! I'm buying the boys pizza for dinner on Saturday night - I will make myself something else! (Pizza isn't a huge temptation for me, so it doesn't matter to me!)

As for my neighbor... she's been trying to hook me up with her brother for the LONGEST time! Sadly I am pretty near-sighted... and when she first pointed out her brother in their yard I told her he was gorgeous - I love that look when a guy is bald (or shaved) and he has that really neat goatee. Well up close he wasn't anything like I thought he looked from 1000 feet away (doing the math for my crappy eyesight)... but since I care more about the inside than the outside, I decided to overlook the physical. Unfortunately he is VERY overweight (VERY) and he is NOT interested at all in losing weight or eating healthy.. and he's had a quadruple bypass and a hundred other serious health issues due to his weight. I deal with all of that with my ex husband all of the time - and I like my ex and consider him a friend - I just don't want to start down that road with a NEW love interest. It sounds like nothing but heartache. Plus we had nothing in common in the way of interests. She still keeps trying to get me to date him. NICE neighbor..... but scary match-maker!! ha ha

Just do what i do kyan, roll up a newspaper and whack her on the nose a few times while saying "No! No! Bad neighbor! Bad!"

On a serious note im sure you'll find someone that wants to be healthy and enjoy the journey towards a good lifestyle with you. Sounds like both you and chris have had your hands full lately, but im sure you're enjoying the time they spend at home. Btw....shrimp chips are delicious, its scary how good new things can be...and addicting. :D

Jeff - I save the newspaper on the nose for when (and if) she ever poops on my lawn!

I really want to try shrimp and crab chips now.

Speaking of chips and stuff.... have any of you tried the taco at Taco Hell that has its shell made from one honking giant nacho cheese DORITO? OMG that looks soooo good! We even saw an advertisement at the movie theater this weekend before the movie started! I turned to my daughter and said, "I wish those had come out a year ago!" She said I could always TRY one - but I know me. If I love it, I will go on a food jag and eat them four or five times a week. NOT good!

Smoked Trout is a delicacy sent straight from God and totally beachy. If you don't live in a (landlocked) area with fresh flowing rivers it costs FORTY DOLLARS A POUND. Check your fish market without delay. I'm constantly googling smoked trout looking for a better price that I pay in NYC but it's even costlier online. I haven't had any since Christmas before last
I'll bet everybody else at the Hunger Games could Smell the Orange  (My son went without me. With two new friends: the politest boys I've seen since we left Georgia. Who had little ponies on their t-shirts. Sigh. I may never be a grandmother.)
KYAN THE MOZZARELLA CHICKEN THE MOZZARELLA CHICKEN THE MOZZARELLA CHICKEN where can I find the recipe you use? Please! (I'll send you  crab chips. but you won't like them. nobody likes them but me and a few Baltimore drug dealers.)

Chicken Mozzarella. Mmmmmmm!

First the non-Beachy recipe. I am including it because the only thing that is non-Beachy is the Campbell's tomato soup - which has some freaking high fructose corn syrup in it! (Does that crap have to be in EVERYTHING?) But I am thinking that the amount you would actually get of any "bad" ingredients is relatively small... so if you don't have craving issues I doubt the small amount you get in one meal is going to make or break your weight loss. So this is a "sometimes" meal:

Chicken Mozzarella

4 thinly sliced chicken breasts (we use 8)
2 tbsp whole wheat flour
1 tsp dried basil leaves
2 cans tomato soup
2 tbsp water
4 slices mozzarella cheese (or 8)

Mix the flour with the sweet basil and lightly coat each piece of chicken. Cook chicken in skillet (in hot olive oil) until both sides are brown and it's fairly cooked. Add soup and water and reduce heat to low. Cover, and cook 5 minutes or until chicken is done. Uncover and remove from heat - and top each chicken breast with a cheese slice. When the cheese melts, it's ready to eat!

SOOOOO good!! The recipe actually calls for ONE can of soup - but we usually double the chicken and double the soup. Naturally if the flour and basil mixture runs out - just make up more! (If making two batches!)

**************************************************************

Here is the Beachy recipe:

4 thinly sliced chicken breasts
1/2 cup South Beach BQ Sauce
4 slices mozzarella cheese

To make the sauce:

1 8 ounce can tomato sauce
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 teaspoons chopped fresh parsley
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon ground mustard
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder.

Combine - and fridge until ready to use.

Season chicken on both sides with salt and pepper. Heat oil (1 teaspoon) in skilled over medium-high heat and add chicken, cooking until browned on both sides.

Place chicken in an ovenproof baking dish and spoon the BBQ sauce evenly over the top. Bake until thicken is done - about 18-20 minutes. Remove from oven and top each piece with a reduced fat mozzarella cheese slice.

Holy COW  (see, I did it again, witty witty me)
You typed out two whole recipes. They sound Right Up Our Alley, too. I love it when foods are already bite size when they're ready, leaving my mouse hand/book hand free while eating.
Now I'm OBLIGATED to you and responsible for if you live or die so I'm not sending the Crab Chips. Mwah ha ha!
Kyan-Kyan. Is the emPHASIS on the first sylABLE, like CAYenne, or the second like diANNE?
I'm a big-time mispronouncer.
My daughter's in India and I told my pal Baldeesh where she is and B said she'd never heard of it. Yesterday I saw Baldeesh again and she said her mother's relatives LIVE THERE but I was mispronouncing it so bad she didn't recognize it.

KY.. anne. Or just plain Ky. Not to be confuzzled with that jelly stuff.

I've backspaced THREE times now over something witty I was going to say, but very insensitive - so I will behave.

....for a change.

::::waves hi to Jin:::::

Speaking of which - your name always makes me think of an old unusual oil lamp that is made for rubbing and wishes.... does my name make you think of jelly? ha ha

You've only backspaced ONE time? And over pink tits you say?

Well if I can talk about orange cheeto d***s, you can certainly mention pink tits! This forum is getting very colorful!

I ate possibly the worst lunch ever I've had so far on the Beach. I saw the suggestion somewhere to open a can of tuna and eat it on coleslaw. Last night we had Jamaican jerk pork roast on top of coleslaw so I had some leftover slaw.

D I S G U S T I N G!

I just couldn't eat it. I ended up eating cold pork with an apple and a handful of unsalted nuts. So much for veggies at lunch!!

Tonight is Greek Sloppy Joes and squash with asiago cheese and chopped walnuts. Soooo good! I might also pick up some Kale on the way home from the gym. You were talking about Kale chips and those sound sooo good! I never put vinegar on mine (until tonight - I can't wait!) - and I was also using a glass baking dish instead of a baking sheet - I have a feeling my chips are going to be a LOT better tonight than usual!!

Last night I did sprint/intervals - a fourth of them on 8.5 and the rest of 8.0. I was freaking gasping for breath! I also rowed a mile.

Last night while I was running this east Indian guy came and used the machine next to mine. I recognized him from one of the candlelight yoga classes. That night at yoga he went and got wipes and slowly and methodically wiped down every square inch of the yoga mat before class. Twice! It made sense to me - OMG, have you ever sniffed those communal mats? I bought my own and it aired out and now it's not bad at all. But those class mats...! So I didn't think a thing of it. But last night he goes up to the machine and cleans off every square inch of the Dreadmill before he used it! I mean... there were places on the machine that I certainly never put MY hands on! ha ha You know, there is nothing to think about when you are gasping for breath except 1) water ... 2) when will I be DONE with this ... and 3) my lungs hurt! So I got to wondering... am I extremely lax about germs and microbes (because to be a little racist - those east Indian guys are SMART and a lot of them are brilliant in the sciences... maybe he knows something I don't!!) or is this guy a little bit fruity about invisible cooties???
