When to eat Carbs?

Postby michai » Mon Mar 26, 2012 6:55 am

I've finally finished Phase 1 and am on day 1 of Phase 2. Hurray! :)

I now am planning to add one serving of carbs and one serving of fruits to for this week.

I usually go to gym during lunch time and I don't know at what meal should I have my carbs. Is it breakfast? Or lunch time (after gym)? Or a mid-morning snack an hour before going to the gym?

Will it be a bad idea if I use my one serving of carbs during dinner? That's when I eat with my family and we would like to celebrate our carb intake at dinnertime. :)

Thanks!

You can (and should) eat carbs all day-- they are present in many of the p1 foods that you should already be eating, such as vegetables and dairy. Hopefully you haven't been avoiding those foods, thinking this is one of those low or no carb plans. Carbs are also present in fruit, which you mentioned adding for p2.

If by "carbs" you mean the p2 grain/starch options, that is up to you-- personal preference, really. You can add back whatever you miss (assuming it's a good choice, of course), or whatever you think would be the healthiest, or the easiest to buy, fix, etc.

If you're having trouble getting through your workouts, make sure you're optimizing the p1 carbs by including plenty of vegetables (including beans/legumes) and dairy. Those really help. But before or after working out is a good time for p2 carbs (grains/starches and fruit) also.
My FAQ-- food lists, portion guidelines, etc.

I eat carb meals in mid morning so that they can be burned out through out day! having carb meals in lunch (after gym) or in dinner is I think a bad idea, because then you dont have a plenty of time to burned it out, or you need to do some extra effort for it. if you take a carb meal in morning then you'll have the rest of the day to burn the calories may be just by keep yourself engaged in any physical activity or by exercising at gym. Choice is yours!

The official SB stance: "Research suggests that the best post-workout snack is a combination of protein and good carbohydrates."

It will be better to go for gym in the morning section and eat the crab in the afternoon section as your lunch. Also with crabs you can eat some food like grains, vegetables etc…
