South Beach Diet & Allergies

Postby JustJinny » Sun Mar 04, 2012 8:50 pm

I have just quit Weightwatchers. I had previously led a fairly healthy diet, and active in the form of 7-8hours of Zumba a week, and home work outs too. I currently weigh 218lbs (I think that's right) - and on weight watchers put on weight continuously for 5weeks, inspite of following them rigidly. I'm gutted, especially as I struggled so badly with the lack of protein in the WW diet. With the weight gain, my arthritis in my ankles has flared up terribly, and I have just managed to start up Zumba again, 2 hours a week, but I walk briskly for an hour every day to try to stay mobile.

Anyway - so my physiotherapist told me about the SBD - and I've looked at it - but I still have issues. I am very allergic to a lot of vegetables, mostly beans,, and a lot of Legumes (including soya). I am also allergic to Artificial sweetners. I have digestive problems that means I don't have any added oils or butter like spreads too. Healthy bunny me, eh!?! lol.

Anyway - so my question is - is it possible for a London, UK person to do this diet, on an extremely low income, when faced with so many allergies? How can I get the nutrients that one would ordinarily get from the beans and legumes?

I think it's actually easier to eat healthy SBD meals on a low income than it is to eat an unhealthy diet. It will be harder for you than for most because you can't eat legumes, but it's not impossible. Two discussions you might find helpful are "For Our European Friends" and "Frugal SBD." The frugal SBD discussion is mainly for the US, but it includes some ideas for saving money that you might find helpful.

The European discussion is here:

Nothing is this diet is mandatory, you can choose from the allowed list want to need, can afford and agrees with you.
If you can't eat legumes, then don't have them, eat some other forms of protein.

Good luck!
