Been too sporadic with my posts on here but it's hard to get much out of journaling without most of my old buddies on this site! Nobody to be accountable to makes the practice less effective for me. Hmm ...

Very sore upper calves from a good Insanity workout on Saturday night - it's a great program and gives me a fantastic workout, but I feel very silly doing workout videos in my living room around my boyfriend so only tend to sneak them in when he's not home, and that's not frequent. I need to do them more because they kick my butt better than anything I do at the gym except for cycling classes. Feel like I overate yesterday as a result but I was hungry all day long - felt a definite metabolism boost from Saturday's workout but as I often do, I think I diminished the benefits by eating too much afterward because I think I'm allowed the extra calories, and because I'm just plain hungry. Doesn't make much sense to bust your butt exercising if you're just going to eat it back though! Silly girl.

Plan today:
B: Strawberry Greek yogurt, 2/3 banana, coffee
S: Coffee
L: Pear-cranberry-pecan-blue cheese salad, soup
S: Not sure but going to need something - I didn't pack well last night ...
E: 20-30 min of cardio depending on how my calves feel; lots of upper body and core lifting
D: White bean-butternut squash-kale stew

Hey W! Yep, BF is still the Brit - he came over just after I moved to DC and will be here for about another month, then back to London and who knows where. Been nice having him around for so long though!

Gym was a bit of a bust yesterday - my calves were trashed! Did a 20 min walk on the treadmill in pretty fantastic calf and shin pain, then lifted a bit. Better than nothing. Food was good though, calories in line despite the addition of a small unplanned serving of cheese crackers with my lunch because I was still hungry.

Plan today:
B: Latte, yogurt and berries
S: Coffee/tea
L: Leftover butternut squash cassoulet - a small serving so will probably need to hunt up something else, not sure what
D: Roasted chicken, potatoes or sweet potatoes, green veggie

No workout today I don't think, going to give the body a break today and hopefully get in another one of those damned Insanity workouts tomorrow.

Happy Wednesday y'all - busy week for me this week and next. Things at work are hectic!

Shrimp and vegetable curry last night for dinner as chicken wasn't defrosted. A bit too much rice but good on calories overall, and just had a plum for dessert.

Plan today:
B: Latte, yogurt and blueberries with sprinkle of cereal
S: Coffee, carrots
L: Chickpea, cranberry, feta and pine nut salad, plum
S: Plum, carrots
E: 45 min elliptical, weights
D: Roast chicken, potatoes, kale

Happy Thurs ... glad the week's almost over.

Plan today:
B: Cereal
S: Coffee, yogurt and blueberries
L: Half turkey sandwich, side caesar, small bag of chips
S: Plum, coffee
E: 40 min cycling class
D: Chicken bento with brown rice and Asian slaw

Had a good week with food and exercise. Posting here does help, even if I'm only accountable to myself. Yesterday I stopped by CVS in the afternoon and had a bag of candy in my hand ... put it back ... came back to the office and figured I'd grab a bag of popcorn from the vending machine (100 cal) ... put that back too. Will have done workouts Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and then at least one day this weekend. Trying to keep workouts at a minimum of four days a week. BF has been hitting his workouts hard (running, lifting, swimming AND going to martial arts class in the same day!) and seeing awesome results - I'm feeling less productive so need to step it up.

Hi A-Rod!

Keep up the food journaling :) Just an FYI that I learned from some buddies in the food industry... a lot of Asian restaurants cook their brown rice in butter to make it more moist and tasty (I know, I was horrified)!!! I usually just order white rice when I eat out because I don't want to take the risk. A lot of the servers have mediocre English at best and sometimes it turns into a screaming match just to ask if there's butter!

Anyway I'll try to frequent the site and help to keep you accountable! Best of luck :)

Also I noticed that you work out... have you heard of the site DailyMile? It's amazing! Great for keeping accountable with the work outs.

Jin, thanks for stopping by! I did not know that about restaurant brown rice ... blech. This was homemade so all safe!

Had a kick ass spinning class last night - could barely walk to the subway afterward, my legs were so beat. Burned through dinner super fast so had a little bit of popcorn after so I wouldn't wake up starving. Not sure how I feel about that practice but yesterday just felt like listening to my body.

Went to Starbucks for breakfast with the intention of a lowfat baked good but got an egg/turkey bacon muffin insted. Well done me. Now I will not eat any of the donuts that are in the break room ... NOT.

Plan today:
B: Coffee, egg white/turkey bacon on WW muffin
L: Salad, soup - or something
D: Homemade pizza w/LF pepperoni and veggies; glass of wine

Happy Monday ... had an OK weekend food-wise but not great. Had a great game of tennis yesterday - good exercise although I've lost all tennis skills I've ever possessed. But still fun.

Plan today:
S: Skim latte
B: Greek yogurt, blueberries, coffee
L: Leftover black bean, butternut squash and smoked pork stew with avocado
S: Coffee, maybe something else if needed before gym
E: 45 min elliptical and weights, or possibly a run
D: Chicken Caesar salad

Happy Tuesday! I hope you had a good workout yesterday... what did you end up going with, elliptical or run? Have a great week.

Hey Jin- did 45 mins on the elliptical (3.5 miles). Nothing overly exciting but got the job done.

Had a bit of a slip for dinner last night but so it goes ... we were going to order pizza from a local healthy pizza restaurant, but after BF turning his nose up at the last minute we ended up ordering regular old pizza. Light cheese which makes a difference but I ate more than I should've. But, I am wearing size 8 pants today, so that's nice.

Plan today:
S: 1/2 piece of leftover pizza (starving before leaving for work!)
B: Skim latte, 3/4 cup Greek yogurt w/strawberries and cereal
S: 1/2 muffin
L: Taco salad w/chicken and beans on a corn tortilla, and a few chips
E: Insanity workout
D: Lentil salad w/mixed greens, bread

It is funny how some days you think you're doing well and others you think - or realize - you're not. This morning was the latter - put on clothes that used to fit better when I was thinner and know I'm not doing as well as I want to be or should be. I need to be more consistent and more aggressive - I've been half assing and it's not getting me anywhere. BF is leaving for a few months of work in Nigeria in a few weeks and I am looking forward to that time to really focus on good eating and a lot of exercise. I use his presence as an excuse to eat poorly and it's not good. That's entirely my fault, not his, and it can also stop today.

Plan:
S: Latte
B: Yogurt, berries, cereal, coffee
L: Leftover lentil salad, apple, 1.5 slices of sourdough bread
E: 40 min spin class
D: Lean pulled pork (cut off most of the fat to make it less greasy), slaw and tomato salad (wouldn't normally make pulled pork but it's for a potluck at work tomorrow and there will probably be more than I need)
