Back to the beach after 5 years - need help

Postby dreamgirl » Tue Jan 17, 2012 9:00 pm

I followed SBD principles in 2007 and lost over 25lbs then...managed to keep most of it off for couple of years and then gradually started piling the weight on again. Now I weigh more than what I weighed when I began SBD in 2007 :(

I am ready to make a commitment again but I can't do eggs anymore. I am so sick of eating eggs that they don't go down my throat. I need some ideas for breakfast. I am a vegetarian.

Thanks!

Some other good alternatives would be a LF cheese, or tofu. You could try beans topped with some LF cheese - possibly also with some tomatoes or salsa. Nonfat or vegetarian refried beans work fine. I posted a simple recipe for broiled tomatoes in the "recommend a vegetable" thread - you might also consider that. (The protein comes from LF cheese.)

Silken tofu can be blended with NF milk into a smoothie (add nuts or nut butter). I've tried mixing it with sweetener and flavoring, and it works OK that way too. You can also have tofu prepared a lot of different ways. There are also a lot of tofu-based sausages, etc. you could have. (Just make sure they're low in fat - some apparently have some pretty fatty flavorings added.) They're more expensive than plain tofu, though, and imo aren't worth the extra cost. Plain tofu is quite cheap and works fine, I think. If you're eating tofu as your protein, remember to also have a vegetable. For example, you could have firm tofu broiled or sauteed with mushrooms, peppers, or onions and a little healthy oil (such as sesame).

You can have a veggie burger or some kind of veggie crumbles mixed with sauteed peppers, onions, mushrooms, etc, like a hash. I like to have seasoned black beans and lf cheddar for breakfast, but I like mine with a poached egg. Just because you don't want to eat eggs as a main course doesn't mean you can't use them as an ingredient to boost the protein in a meal, so you can do one of the many faux pancake or waffle recipes on the recipe boards.

And, as we always tell people, you don't have to eat "breakfast food" for breakfast. Any protein that you eat at any other meal is fine, whether it's a vegetarian chili, soup, whatever. Just lean protein and veggies - that's the only requirement.

love the idea for the flax pancakes, those are my favs and I could eat them everyday. They do have eggs...but really I would never know it.

And how about FF,plain yogurt with NPB and a little sweetner. That is my quick "go-to" breakfast if I dont have time to heat up a pan. Agree, you dont have to have breakfast foods for breakfast and many on here dont, browse around at menus and see what others are having~ but dont look at mine, doing this with DD this time around, she thinks breakfast must be "breakfast". good luck!

Btw, make sure that any veggie burgers you eat in phase 1 don't have added grain. Some brands add oats or other grains. I think Boca Burgers should be OK, but the last time I checked, Garden Burgers had grains.

Thanks Magna about the veggie burger warning....I assumed that Morning star ones were good in P1 but then checked the label to see that I was wrong :(

You can probably save them until phase 2. If you already ate one, don't worry - one slightly off-plan food may not make any real difference. Just stick with your regular phase 1 menu for the rest of phase 1.

Flax pancakes? Do you eat them dry? Sounds like something I could fix and freeze.

NF Greek yogurt with peanut butter in it? Is that what I saw? Hmmm. I think I am going to try yogurt with almonds.
