Amy is back on the beach!

Postby nurseAMY » Wed Jan 04, 2012 2:37 am

Hi, guys! Like many people, I'm starting the new year off with the goal of being healthy and losing weight. I've been on South Beach before and had great success. Since having my son (10 months ago) I just haven't been able to get back on track. I'm ready to recommit and do something about this weight. This is my third day and things are going well. With the exception of a bowl of cereal the first night, I haven't had any slip ups. I won't officially weigh myself again until Sunday, but I can already tell a difference in how my wedding ring fits.

I hope you all will stop by often and help hold me accountable to this way of life. I know I can do it this time!

Hi Amy,

Welcome back :),,three days is good, i am on Day 2 today and it seems to be going okay so far. Are you thinking of adding some exercise, i have made a goal to burn 500 calories 5 days a week, we will see how it goes :),,i think i am going to post my food and exercise in my journal for accountability.

Welcome and lets do it together :) These boards are great, so many people with so much experience,i spent a lot of time just reading what everyone has to say and it does help a lot, there is also the before and after pictures board that i like to look at :)!

Hi, Ana! I've journaled my food and exercise before and it really does help. I like reading other people's food journals to get ideas for meals and recipes. To answer your question, I THINK about adding exercise all the time. So far it hasn't really happened. I have an unofficial goal of running a 5k in March. I need to download the C25K app and get busy!

Today was a good day. I got a lot accomplished at work, had a nice dinner with my family and watched the Memphis Tigers whoop Tennessee. I tried a new recipe for dinner, balsamic glazed steak, that I found on the South Beach app. It was not good! I hate to buy meat because I never know what cut to use for what recipe. This was marked down at the grocery store, so I decided to try it. Bad idea. It was so tough you could barely chew it and I didn't really like the flavor of the marinade. I ate the broccoli that went with it and fed the steak to our dogs. My sweet husband was kind enough to finish his steak and say "it's not that bad". He went on to say that he could see how it would make you lose weight... "my mouth is so tired from chewing it, I don't want anything else to eat". LOL! Gotta love him!

B: breakfast casserole (turkey sausage, broccoli, LF cheese and egg beaters), low sodium V8
S: carbmasters yogurt
L: chili (recipe from Kalyn's Kitchen), side salad from Chick-Fil-A with 1/2 a pack of regular ranch (I asked for low fat!)
S: celery with french onion dip (not low fat), LF string cheese
D: broccoli with LF cheese sauce, 2 bites of steak jerky, a large salad

The last 2 days have been busy, but I still stayed on track. Yesterday was hectic at work. I didn't have time to eat the snacks I brought, but I wasn't really that hungry without them. I also didn't have any dairy yesterday. When I went to bed, I realized I was still hungry. I was very tempted to get up for a snack. I was able to resist and still lived through the night. :P
Yesterday's food log:
B: breakfast casserole
S: none
L: baked chicken breast, green beans
S: 3 slices of deli turkey meat
D: sauteed mushrooms and onions with chunks of chicken topped with swiss cheese, green beans, sliced tomato

I work a 4 day week and have Fridays off. I love that because RJ can go to the baby sitter and I can spend the day doing whatever needs to be done. This morning I did my grocery shopping and stocked up South Beach friendly stuff. My husband was also off today, so we had a date day. I told him if I could pick where we ate, he could pick what we did. We ate at Humdingers, did some shopping (I tricked him into that one!) and went to the shooting range. Fun day! We also checked out our local YMCA. We're going to go back tomorrow to join. They have child care in the evenings, so I can still go on nights that Rob is working. I'm excited to try some of the classes, especially zumba!

Today's food:
B: breakfast casserole, low sodium V8
S: none
L: grilled talipia with grilled asparagus and zucchini (I love Humdingers! They have such great, healthy choices)
S: celery sticks with LF pimento cheese, 2 squares of sugar free dark chocolate (90 calories)
D: turkey burger, sauteed zucchini, squash, mushrooms and onions
S: I'll probably have a carbmaster yogurt

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Weekends are always a challenge for me... so many opprotunities to make poor choices.

Hi Amy, welcome back and congratulations on your son. That's awesome! I too struggled a lot after I had my kids... but then I found SBD and it's been good. Even though I've been up and down over the years, the principals are always with me and I know what I need to do and how to do it. The support here is wonderful.

Zumba is the BEST and I do it regularly. I'm actually teaching a class in February. Fun! You never feel like you're working out but you sweat and laugh and the hour flies by. Last week I did a 2 hour Zumba party class and almost dropped at the end.

Good luck and keep journalling. It always helps me.

I am exhausted! It's bad when the weekends are more tireing than being at work. My baby is sick and cutting a tooth. He is so pitiful! He's a total momma's boy, so I haven't been able to get much done. I have stayed on program today. Tomorrow is my first weigh in after being back on SB for a week. I'm anxious to see what it happens. I know phase 1 isn't supposed to be about weight loss, but dropping a few pounds would be awesome!

B: ricotta pancakes (2), turkey bacon (3), low sodium V8
S: carbmaster yogurt
L: salad
S: deviled eggs (too many)
D: ginger dijon glazed pork, sautéed cabbage
Dessert: 2 squares sugar free dark chocolate

I had to laugh at your husband's comment about the steak and losing weight! There have been some things on SBD I have literally spat out and I am bit of a human dustbin!

Hey, yall! The past 2 days have been okay. Yesterday I ate WAY TOO MUCH. If was all okay food, but way too much of it. Today was better. The hubs and I just decided to take a roadtrip to Ohio this weekend. I've already started stressing about what fast food I can eat. I think we'll be stopping at Wendy's and Subway. I know I can make good choices there. The down side will be 9 hours in the car with a 10 month old who despises his carseat. Oh! And we're taking both ofour dogs. This should be fun!

I tried the bean muffins that are so popular on the recipe page. I added banana extract and walnuts. They really weren't bad! Rob couldn't guess the secret ingredient. They sure weren't like a bakery treat, but they did the job. I'll definitely make them again and try different flavors.
B: 1 1/2 banana walnut bean muffins, low sodium V8
S: broccoli and cauliflower with ranch dip
L: chicken and black bean casserole
S: carbmaster yogurt
D: buffalo chicken breast, black beans
D: 2 banana walnut bean muffins

I just finished phase 1. I weighed in this morning at 227! That means I lost 4 more pounds this week and a total of 11.8 during phase 1. I still haven't really added in exercise. I hope to find the time this week. I need to stop making excuses and just do it. But that's much easier said than done. I've been busy and haven't had much time to post my food lately. But I am sticking with it. Now that I am moving on to phase 2, I think I'll add an apple a day.
Hope everyone is doing wonderful. I'll check back in later!

Thanks! We ended up not going on the roadtrip. I am so glad! Traveling with the baby just isn't worth it.
I am doing well on phase 2 so far. I've added an apple as my afternoon snack along with a LF string cheese. I haven't noticed any craving or anything. Hopefully I'll be able to keep losing. I would love to be at my pre-baby weight by his first birthday. That means losing 8 more pounds in the next 4 weeks. Eh. We'll see.

South Beach may kill me. Really. Last night I was checking out at the grocery store. I was hungry and knew dinner was still any hour away. So I grabbed a small pack of peanuts to hold me over. When I got in the car, I tore open the package and popped some in my mouth. That is when I realized they weren't peanuts. They were cashews. I have thought that I have an allergy to cashews for a long time. I've never been officially tested for it, but after a few small reactions to "something" I decided it might be cashews. I haven't eaten any in years. So, I (stupidly) decided to finish the package and see what happened. When I got home I told my husband (who's a critical care/trauma flight paramedic) what had happened. I mean, if I quit breathing I wanted someone to know why. Thankfully, I didn't stop breathing. But I did wake up with a rash all over my body this morning. After a very itchy day at work, I have learned my lesson. No more cashews for me!

I'm still doing okay on the plan. I've started slacking on getting enough veggies and water. I'll work on that over the weekend and be better preparred for next week. I've been thinking about what I should add in for the second week of phase 2. Any suggestions? I've had a apple everyday this week and I'm doing akay with that. Maybe a whole grain tortilla and have a wrap for lunch. I'm getting kind of tired of lunch always being leftovers or a salad.
