Water exercise is SOOO good for you! That would be awesome!

Unfortunately for me, I have a huge aversion to chilly water... and pools are ALWAYS chilly and cold when you first get into them until you get used to the water. If I lived somewhere where there were hot pools (like in Glenwood Springs, CO) I would do it in a heartbeat!

So this morning my scale was up (duh) and I started thinking. Just how many calories are in my favorite (and only) fast food dinner? Sushi, spring rolls, edamames. I went to their website and added up the calories..... HOT DAMN .... my dinner runs around 1545 calories!!!

Now SB isn't about counting calories... but we DO need to keep them in mind! When you add in my calories for breakfast and lunch.... well I can't say the total out loud because I will faint .. and the total is devastating!! What's even MORE depressing is that on Monday nights because of our schedules and how hectic that night is, it made sense for us to grab something while we were out and about. I am going to have to seriously rethink this matter and make some changes. :(

And yes I know, last night wasn't Monday night, lol. That makes it even worse! I ate that many calories TWICE in one week! Eek!

Ky,

That's what it's all about. Watching what we're eating and making necessary changes. I found out that a salad I was eating at O'Charley's (my fav restaurant) was something like 1200 calories...a SALAD, for pete's sake! It's a learning process, but as long as we keep learning and applying and getting up and going again when we fall down, we will make it.

Posted on the BL thread just now. I never get to watch until Thursday night, so I'm always behind in posting.

I find I can totally overdo it on SB and have been in that rut before. Eating properly, keeping it to good carbs and only once per day, etc... but eating WAY too much (way too many calories). Now I'm on P1 again for a couple of weeks and I'm really mindful about how much I'm eating, and I'm using 'My Fitness Pal' to keep an eye on the calories, just to get it all in perspective. I'm hungry all the time!! But I know it's only because my stomach is stretched to the max!! Anyway, it's easy to overdo it on SB, that's for sure.

Hey Dene! It's downright scary how many calories a salad can have!!!

Beaching - I am always hungry, too. But we will adjust soon!

Today I was more careful with what I ate. Breakfast was muesli with a pear, lunch was grilled Canadian bacon with apricot glaze and a slice of ww toast with s/f raspberry jam, and lunch was a variety of meats cooked in a Middle Eastern style, humus and a salad. I did NOT eat any pita bread with the humus! Instead I dipped my meat into the mixture. Very good! Lots of water. I should have had more veggies.

Tonight I was at my sister's and decided to weigh myself on her scale. Fully clothed and wearing blue jeans and a sweat shirt and tennis shoes (so heavy clothes) and I weighed less there than I do at home NEKKED! I want HER scale! She said her boyfriend always complains that her scale ADDS weight. Too funny.

What a DAY! Got up and ate yogurt and prune compote for breakfast. Then the boys and I moved furniture and boxes all day long! We worked 4 1/2 hours straight and then I realized I'd better make us something for lunch. I made artichoke flour pasta with cauliflower and pinto beans and cheese (in the Super Quick cookbook) and then we were back to work. Finally around 6:00 I got us some Panda Express. There are some things that are allowed in the South Beach Dining Out book - like the black pepper chicken. My boys LOVE Panda Express - I can take it or leave it. At least it was quick and easy! Then back to work until 11:00 p.m. Talk about hard work! I hope the scale reflects it tomorrow! Tomorrow is my official weigh-in day.

Right now I am craving a big old glass of ice cold lemonade..... I guess I will go have a glass of cold water. ::snort::

Ah, the joys of takeout! I cannot believe your sushi/spring roll/edamame meal was so outrageous - must have been the spring rolls. Luckily we have pitiful takeout in the town where I live. Bad pizza, McD, and a new Thai place and my husband doesn't like Thai. Other than that it's rotisserie chicken or shush from the grocery store, LOL! Their sushi is actually good, but I don't get it often.

Sounds like you need a plan for Monday nights - cooking ahead on Sunday, maybe a big pot of chili that you can just reheat - let the kids have chips with theirs while you have a salad. It will save you a bundle, too.

Hiya there Kyan, ive learned the hard way that almost all sushi is pretty horrible for you calorie wise, with california roll being the best at like 300-400 calories for a roll! It's rather depressing as i personally love sushi but now its more of a treat every few months instead of the twice a week i had been doing for a long time there. The hunger will definetly go away! Mine has already, so was considering just making it 1 week of phase one and starting phase 2 this morning, BUT i think im going to stick it out for the next week. Is the book you read called south beach dining out? Never heard of it but since my girlfriend loves to eat out, would be nice to have it handy so i dont have to be grumpy as she puts it, eating my salad each time lol.

Chris - that was really good advice! Tonight's dinner- chili! I love chili, too!

Jeff - California rolls are my all-time favorite! But I like them with cream cheese added. (not good.)
The book is called The South Beach Diet Dining Guide. I just did some looking around..... it's available on Amazon for 99 cents new and a penny for a used copy....and there are a lot available on Ebay starting at $1.00 and one is $1.40. Of course you will have to pay shipping no matter where you get it. Unless you buy other stuff with it on Amazon and qualify for their free shipping rates! lol It's a pretty decent book, although they dedicate a good portion of the book to dining out in different cities around the U.S. and Denver isn't one of them. :(

One of my problems is that I focus on Beachy foods... but don't take into account the calories, so a single dinner might be healthy but not the best choice! I do like the fact that there are other options besides salads! Chick-Fil-A seems to have some decent foods we can eat.

********

So yesterday was my official weigh-in day and I am down THREE pounds, sushi and all! Woohoo! Very exciting!

I'm planning my meals for the week and they all sound soooo good! Flank steak with onion relish (I've had this before - it's awesome!) and chicken fingers dipped in SB peanut sauce (new recipe) and mozzarella chicken... steak in pepper cream sauce (had both before).. and I can't remember what else off of the top of my head. I'm going to try a new salad with grilled asparagus ... oh and I'm going to make a SB rice side side dish that I love and also SB creamed spinach which is awesome! It's going to be a great week, food-wise!

Breakfast - one of my absolute favorites - Ham Frico sandwiches. You melt shredded cheese and then use that as your "bread". Spread coarse dijon mustard on each slice of melted cheese. Add a slice of ham, a jarred roasted red pepper and some sliced red onion and make a sandwich. They are SOOO good!

Lunch was bean soup with spinach and shaved Parmesan cheese. Dinner was what we call Papusas but that isn't what they actually are. We heat up brown rice tortillas... put black beans and torn pepper jack cheese in between and heat until the cheese melts and cut each tortilla "sandwich" into four slices. Top this with shredded lettuce mixed with some salsa. They are awesome!

I thought it was interesting that The Biggest Loser mentioned sushi tonight. They said that each piece of sushi can have around 300 calories EACH. Uh..... I was eating 16 pieces of sushi at a meal. lolol I don't know why I'm grinning - it's pretty pathetic.

I'm going to miss it. ::sniff::

What are they putting in their sushi?! Maybe a whole roll is 300 calories, and it's probably one of those with the goopy sauce that's made from mayo or something, or maybe a shrimp tempura one. I can't imagine a little piece of fish and some rice and nori would amount to that many calories. I love the stuff, but don't really have it often because it's too expensive for my budget right now. If I had my way, I'd have it a couple of times a week.

Chris - I have to agree with you. How could one piece be that many calories???

I tried some new recipes today. Breakfast was just muesli with strawberries. For lunch I made this awesome open-faced sandwich. It's turkey, provolone cheese, roasted red pepper, red onion and mashed avocado in lime juice with some chili pepper on a toasted muli-grain english muffin that has had a clove of sliced garlic rubbed across the top of it. It was great! I told my boys today that I like South Beach foods better than I like the stuff I used to eat!

Dinner was crispy chicken fingers dipped in homemade SB peanut sauce and some kale cooked with onion and turkey bacon to go with it. Mmmmm!!

I had planned on exercising tonight but the roads were soo slick! I had to take one of my twins to our HMO today for some stat blood work (he's been having constant nose bleeds from his seizure meds!) and I slid SIX times - and two of the skids were scary since cars were in front of us! The temperature dipped down into the teens freezing up the roads even worse and I decided it was too risky. Besides, I had to work on my taxes tonight - I meet with my accountant on Saturday! UGH!

Tomorrow night is candelight yoga. :D

Taxes, the best (lol) way to start the new year huh? As for the sushi honestly i just look it up on multiple calorie counting websites and the list is usually around that area. As far as im aware it's without the sauces! Made me depressed seeing it and yes i meant a whole roll, but when i go out for sushi i usually have at least 2 rolls, sometimes 3 depending on what kind so i avoid temptation altogether. Im very sorry to hear about the constant nosebleeds and hope the tests come back with something minor or nothing at all! Stay strong and be safe, icy roads are always dangerous!

Hey Kyan - Sorry I've been a journal visiting slacker (and Chris, Jeff, and Lisa - I will say Hi to you all soon!) It just takes a few minutes to pop in a write a bit, but ugh, I've just been internet lazy, so my apologies!

I don't eat sushi, but the nutritionist on BL talked about how high in calories they were! It's amazing sometimes how many calories there are in something you wouldn't think of having that many.

Cold front moved into our area, too, and delayed our county schools because of the possibility of icy patches on the roads. Brrrrr.

Hey Buddies-O-Mine - good to see you here!! :D

I hit a road block (or two) but I survived. First was taxes. I'm self-employed so it is a freaking nightmare when January rolls around. It literally takes me a solid week to go through each and EVERY receipt I've received for the entire year and tally everything up. Ugh ugh UGH! I missed Yoga on Thursday... :( .... and Friday night I was so stressed that I let my other personality take over my body and go berserk!! I drank three of my special drinks (7-Up, vanilla ice cream and orange juice) and ate BBQ Corn Nuts for dinner. Yes - corn nuts! A whole bag. And not one of those wimpy little bags, either! I know I have food issues, but I never realized that my eating was motivated by stress, too.

Then on Saturday morning I had my taxes done by my accountant and went out with my daughter and son-in-law to an English pub where we had fish and chips. I was given a large gift certificate for Christmas and we had had this planned for some time.

So getting up this Sunday morning - you would think my scale would explode or something. Today was official weigh-in day.... and I am down another pound! Wooohoo!! Think what I might have lost if I hadn't gone off my rocker! Still... I will definitely take that pound! HA HA - I feel like one of those contestants on the Biggest Loser who doesn't lose much weight... but says, "Well... I'll take the pound".

I went to the gym and did an hour of interval on the Dreadmill. I could barely walk out of the darn gym after I was finished! Once again I was literally stunned by the massive amount of people there on a Sunday morning. How long can they last?? Hopefully a long time, but I doubt it. Soon enough it will trickle down to just a small group of us. Once again too, the majority of the people were young and thin. NO ONE was obese. Out of the hundred or so people. Not one. I saw a couple of older guys with a bit of a belly and that was it.

We had a family break-through of sorts. I told my boys I was going to be planning meals for the week and were there any requests - they had two. Greek Sloppy Joes and African Red Bean Stew. BOTH South Beach dinners. Since I am on the Beach and I cook South-Beachy that might not sound impressive... but I have twin teenaged boys - and they will always at least ASK for something they like that isn't Beachy. Pretty cool!
