First phase of South Beach Diet

hello
i'll be starting SB phase one after the holidays - can someone tell me why it says that NO milk is allowed, BUT under the "foods allowed" it says that ff 1/2 and 1/2 and 1% milk/lf yogurt is allowed.....which is true?

The second is true. The "no milk allowed" one is from an old food list that, unfortunately, we can't edit. Nonfat and 1% milk and yogurt are fine (and in fact, encouraged) in phase 1.)

thank you so much. i was pretty confused...another question - is gum chewing allowed in phase one also? i want to make sure what i'm reading is true and not from the OLD SBD . thanks

Yes, sugarless gum is fine. Any sugar-free treats should be counted toward your daily "sweet treat" allowance (no more than 100 calories).

thanks again. in reading the phase one about allowed and not allowed foods, how will i know which is the most recent/correct one to follow? my book is ordered i hope it has all the most recent information in it. i believe its the orig south beach diet book.

The earliest edition of the book has undergone some changes. But you can do fine by reading any version of the book, then looking at this site for updates. (Our updates come either from newer editions of the book or from the official SBD website.)

For now, you might want to have a look at the phase 1 FAQ page. There are links to the phase 1 "foods to enjoy" list, and the "how to adapt your meal plan" template. Together, you can use those two to put together your whole menu for phase 1. There's also a "foods to add" list for phase 2, on the phase 2 FAQ page, when you're ready for that. :)

i must be blind, because i cannot find the FAQ of phase 1. Can you tell me where to find it?
Also, I'm hoping that this diet really works for me. Seems that if I eat just one thing that I shouldn't, the pounds pile on - I am a 49 year old female so I'm having trouble losing weight. This is my last hope, I feel - Even though I have 10-20 lbs to lose, I feel very frustrated still. Thank you for the information.

Go to the phase 1 discussion area. At the top of the page (under the announcements) is a discussion titled "Phase 1 FAQ - PLEASE READ FIRST BEFORE POSTING!" That's the FAQ page you should look at. (It's a "sticky," which means that topic will always stay at the top of the page, no matter what other posts come along.)

thank you ! i found it earlier - i haven't seen any info on diet drinks during phase one in my readings....i am curious about the content that is allowed, if any. Sorry for asking all these questions but it seems like there is so much reading and things changing - i would like to get this right the first time :D

You can find that in the p1 food list under Beverages.
My FAQ-- food lists, portion guidelines, etc.
