Maybe it's a fluke, but today's weigh-in was 141.8!!

Fluke or not, there's no doubt that cutting back on meat and cheese, as in almost eliminating them, is the way to go for me. I was worried that cutting back on these protein sources would make my appetite increase but that hasn't been the case. I'm eating almost entirely whole foods and I'm feeling great!

We go out of town for Thanksgiving and that's in five weeks. It would be so great if I could keep losing a pound a week until then! Maybe I'm getting too greedy for a speedy loss... Okay, if I just lose two pounds between now and then, I'll be happy.

WOW!! Yay you!! That' is awesome on the loss. We too are hoping to be on vacation in 6 weeks so a pound a week before then would be awesome.

I would highly recommend regular massage if you can do it. It really helps me and DH. Also DH takes a daily supplement of 1000 mg of Glucosamine Sulfate - sold with vitamins etc at the drug store. He has all kinds of aches and pains including a torn minuscus in his knee, and he swears by it...

You probably should get a second opinion on your back....

What a great job, you're doing wonderful and i agree with lisa on getting a second opinion. Glad you found your groove, im the opposite as too much whole foods is what causes me to retain my weight.

Thanks, Jeff! And, yes, I think you and Lisa are right too, I will get a second opinion. I'm going to wait though and see how PT goes.

So, I think I'm officially a vegetarian again. I haven't had but maybe two servings of meat within the last month and yesterday I decided to get Fish Oil capsules. They'll also be good for reducing infammation for my back.

This morning I stepped on the scale. 140.6. Wow, the pounds have decided to FINALLY let go! I don't feel like the changes I've made have been that drastic, just cutting back on cheese and eliminating meat. I've also been staying far away from sugar. I cheated a few weeks ago and had ice cream and I also cheated about a week and a half ago and had two homemade cookies. But that's it. I'm also still having wine, two glasses, about three or four times a week. I'm trying to cut back on that, but maybe I don't need to until the next weight-loss stall.

Anyway, I'm really happy about the 140.6.

Hi Play-doh! Yay!!!! You are doing so awesome with your eating! 140.6! Soooo close to the 130's. You should be so proud of yourself. I am doing ok too, not as well with the whole foods as you but I am so much better than I used to be. I am starting to feel more energetic and healthier in general. This way of life is not consuming me anymore. I feel like it is more natural and I am enjoying more of life in general. You are totally motivating me and I just wanted to thank you! Have a great week! :D

Well, you know you always motivate me, Maureen, so I'm happy to know the inspiration is reciprocated! However, if you want to stay inspired, don't read what I'm about to say. :?

I totally bungled everything on Friday. I was home with my 12yo and she wanted to make carmel popcorn. It's one of my favorite things and I should have known I couldn't resist. We made a lot and I ate most of it plus some other crap. I felt so woozy and tired all day yesterday and it was tempting to just say What the heck and eat whatever I wanted, but I didn't. So, a small yay for me there. I ate lots of salads and a plain hamburger ( my first serving of meat in at least a month) in hopes of dowsing the cravings. It didn't work, but luckily my will power was strong. I ate well and even skipped my Saturday night wine.

But still the scale made an ugly face at me this morning: 143.8. It's probably temporary and hopefully I'll earn that 140 back by next week.

It happens from time to time, there are always slipups, nobody can say they just dont have them. I know i have less slip-ups then most people but it still happens, the important part is you can brush it off and get back on track =) You probably felt tired and woozy from the junk you ate. I know when i slip-up i feel like crap, not only from guilt but because your body just doesnt run as well from junk after its used to healthy clean living.

Thanks for words of encouragement, Jeff. I have no doubt that you're right about why I felt so crappy. My body is really sensitive to sugar now which is not a terrible thing.

I had my physical therapy yesterday. Mostly she just wanted to check things out and figure out a good program for me. I told her my goal was to be able to run again without feeling back and shoulder pain the following days. She gave me some exercises and she did a short, simple massage which felt really good and she said to exercise, but no impact. So, no running until further notice. So, I think I'm going to set my treadmill to a steep incline and walk instead.

Without exercising all week, I feel like I've gained weight. It's very discouraging considering how good my eating is and how often I say no to desserts and other bad foods. But this way of eatin is just how it's going to be... forever.

I know my hormones are whacky, but I'm feeling so fat and bloated. I won't get on the scale because I know it will discourage me. In case I am doing something terribly wrong, I'm going to record all my eating and exercise for the next few days and maybe I'll catch my errors.

B - about 1.5 cups of spag. squash with (canned, no sugar added) diced tomates, onions, tempeh, and I added nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor and B vitamins.

We got back yesterday from our week's vacation and I thought I did pretty well at not over eating the whole time we were gone! I had one piece of pumpkin pie, no meat, tried to go easy on the cheese, and I ate as many salads and veggies as I could get my hands on. I took long walks on the beach in the softer sand to give my legs an extra workout and some of those walks were super loooong. I felt great!

Yesterday was a travel day, so we sat on planes and in airports, plus we had to get dinner in a fast food restaurant in Atlanta. My cheese quesadilla was greasy and way loaded with fat and calories. It was, in a word, gross.

So, I guess that given yesterday's horrors, I shouldn't be too disgusted that I weighed 143 today. Maybe it'll go away quickly.

My new goal:
138 by Christmas

Great news! My book sold to a big publishing house! I have been so happy about the deal and I've been celebrating for weeks with family and friends and, well, you can imagine, I've not been focused on eating or exercising at all. But I am so happy! I've worked hard on my writing for several years now and to finally know that a real live novel of mine will be on store shelves is unbelievably exciting to me. A dream come true!

Needless to say, my 138 pound goal is not going to be met by Christmas. I think right now I'm hanging at 143 but with the wintertime cravings getting the best of me, book deal celebrations, holiday parties, and now we're about to travel - two full days in a car, four days with family and feasts, then two days in the car again - I'm hoping I'm not a hippo by New Years! All I can promise now is that I'll do the best I can over the next ten days and then start working hard on January 1.

My book has a loooong process to go through and it'll be two years of more hard work before it's released. Plus, I'll still have my day job and my mom job. Somehow I've got to make time for eating well and exercising otherwise I'll be a real mess.

My new goal: hang in at 143 until New Years, then get back to Phase 1 and drop ten pounds in 2012.

Congratulations on your book!!! What's it about? That is SO Awesome!!!! 143 is also great! I was reading back in your posts from the last time I wrote to you and you are doing just fine. Good work. I have a lot of work to do to get to my goal of 140 which I was hoping for at this time of year... but went the other way. Anyway, a new year is upon us and I'm motivated! I'll be doing P1 with you and started a new years challenge thread to keep us going. I know you will get to 138 in no time. Keep up the great work.

Happy New Year!!!

And Phase 1, here I come. There's not much food in the house right now and I have no car today, but I do have lots of lettuce, some black eyed peas are soaking, and we have some frozen fish. Oh, and maybe some frozen collards. I think I can throw together some strange but SBD friendly meals together with that.

Yesterday I bought Julian Michaels book Master Your Metabolism. I once checked out the Biggest Loser Cookbook from the library and was disappointed with the recipes. There was so much processed food and fake diet food in the recipes. But Julian doesn't seem to buy into that philosophy for weight loss and good health. Her menu plan looks a bit skimpy though. I'm afraid I'd starve.

Lisa, I will definitely check out your New Year Challenge thread. Thanks for the encouraging words! And don't worry about your goal "going the other way." You've developed great habits, especially with your workouts, and you'll be back on the losing track immediately.

How's P1 going, you ask? Um... well... it's not.

Partly because I'm not focused on it right now. I'm eating okay without much effort but I want to start buckling down and get some of this weight off. The last time I did P1 was years ago when I was eating meat and it was easy. But over the past year I modified the SBD plan to the point where it really wasn't SBD anymore. I just eat veggies and a protein at every meal and snack. I'm wondering if maybe that's why I stopped losing weight. My staple meals have become beans and rice, veggies and quinoa, salads with tempeh. I'm wondering if this isn't enough protein for my body. It's something to consider.

I did lose the two pounds I'd gained over the break though.

Today's weight: 143
