Shirataki Noodles??

Postby megleo » Wed Aug 31, 2011 5:01 am

Hello!
I'm new here, so please excuse me if this question has been asked recently and I just can't find it: Are tofu noodles, like Shirataki, legal? If so, are there any guidelines on how many servings are allowed per day, etc.? -- No, there not really pasta, but they come pretty close! :D
Thanks!

Yes, they're fine in any phase. You can find lots of posts about them - just run a search for the word "shirataki" using the search function in the upper right hand corner of this page. Here's a link to an older conversation about them:

I don't know of any limit, although you'd want to use them sensibly. For example, don't let them crowd out other nutritious foods you should be eating, such as vegetables, proteins, and fats.

I recently purchased the Miracle Noodles and they are AWESOME. Be sure to rinse them very well and they absorb the flavors of whateve you are cooking them with. I tried the Rice and Angel Hair so far and like the Angel Hair better. The Rice one was kind of weird to me. I still have a package of fettucine ones I have yet to try. Thinking about using them with a low carb Alfredo sauce. :D

Okay...tried the fettucine miracle noodles and I did not like them. They are too wide and had a funny, chewy consistency. I like the Angel Hair so much better, so I think when I have them, I will only purchase the Angel Hair.

I don't think carbs are the problem with Alfredo sauce, but the butter, cream, and high fat cheeses definitely are. SB is not a low-carb program, and we seek to limit saturated fats by avoiding ingredients like those.
My FAQ-- food lists, portion guidelines, etc.
