Weight stalled on Phase 2

Postby slider92571 » Thu Aug 18, 2011 9:28 pm

Hello,
I am about to finish my third week on phase 2 and my weight loss hasn't changed since I ended phase 1. Is this normal or do I need to change something? I feel that I am following all the guidelines. If anything I am not eating all 3 of the servings of fruits and starches per day. Thanks for any input you can give me.

Going to need more info: starting weight, weight loss in p1 (mostly water), an example of what you've been eating and drinking throughout the day

Without knowing more, its just way too hard to say. You could have lost a lot of water in P1 and have been putting it back in p2 while losing fat making it seem as if you aren't losing weight. Or you might be eating something that is more calorie dense that you thought or that your body can handle in one meal. Only being though three weeks of p2, its probably ok to not be at 3 servings of fruits and starches daily. I added either one starch or one fruit per week up to week 5 where I stopped at 3 fruits and 2 starches per day until I started working out daily a few weeks later and finally added the 3rd starch then.

Starting weight was 214 and now I am bouncing between 205 & 206. Ww bagel with low fat cream cheese and canadian bacon for breakfast or low fat vanilla yogurt, banana, apple, or grapes with low fat cheese for mid morning snack, low fat ham wrap for lunch or left over protein from last nights dinner, raw veges with low fat dip for afternoon snack, skinless chicken breast or low fat protein and some type of vege for dinner. Beverages is two coffees in the morning with artificial sweetener and a v8 with breakfast. Then it is water the rest of the day except for lunch I might have either a diet sweet tea or soda and crystal light with dinner. I just added a glass or two of wine this week but it hasn't made a difference. I have been actively exercising everyday but it is mild activity due to a wrist injury. At least a 20 minute walk. I know I have been loosing inches but mostly during phase 1. I have no cravings at all.

How large of a bagel are you eating? Bagels that the manufacturer considers to be one serving can be as much as 5 actual servings. A grain serving is about 1 oz or 30g total weight. Watch those grain servings.

That said, it is pretty normal to have a little stall when you first start p2.

Give it time. And, if you're in or near menopause, reconsider the wine (I say with a sad sigh). Best of luck. :D

Weight loss has started to move along again. That stall is very frustrating but I am continuing to lose now but at a slower steady pace.

i'm stallled stallllllled stallllllllled.... lost 10 pounds and have been circling the point for over a week now... frustrating! even though i know eventually the dam will burst and i'll lose some more... i just want that number on the scale so much!!!!!!!! i haven't been there in years, so it's a real big deal to me. i'm trying really hard to keep eating everything i should, and mixing up the exercise etc... but when i got on the scale today and it was STILL on the same old number, i was really annoyed!

Judi, I feel the same way. I'm doing my 4th week of SB, in week 2 of the diet and I actually have put back on 2 pounds. I've only added 1 grain a day and very minimal fruit so I feel that I'm eating the same but not seeing the results from Phase 1. I do need to start adding in the exercise and making sure I'm drinking more water each day, but otherwise the meals and food intake have pretty much been the same. I'm tempted to skip the grains and just add the fruit only back in for a week or so and see how things are next week. I'm wondering if the grains are making me retain water. I eat either a whole grain English muffin, whole wheat pasta, or whole wheat tortilla wrap so I'm mixing up what meals I'm serving the grains to myself. If I eat fruit at all it's been a handful of berries or a few apple slices, barely a whole serving. Not sure what I'm doing wrong and I actually only have 5 pounds left to lose to reach my goal weight. It's like my body just doesn't want to let go of it, LOL!

You really just have to ride it out. When you add the carbs back in, they bring back some water weight with your natural glycogen stores. It's not a bad thing or anything like that-- in fact it's probably good, because those are being replenished to a more normal amount if you lost too much in p1.

Do watch your servings on the grains, though-- half an English muffin is a serving, as is just 1 oz of pasta. The package size on those foods probably list twice that, but a true serving of grain is about 1 oz or 30g total weight.

yeah it's tough, and i'm still a long way from my goal. congrats on almost reaching yours!

i've gone ahead and added in grains and fruit - usually 2 servings a day of each, because i have a ways to go yet and if i tried to stay on P1 i'd be in trouble ;) i've got an important event that i'm dressing up for in 4 more weeks and i am trying to work particularly on my stomach and my "bye-bye arms" ;) so my exercises are definitely focused (even though i know technically that doesn't really work... it can't hurt! as long as i'm exercising, right? :) )

Stalled here too since the end of P1, and I am beginning the third week of P2. *Reminds self: this is normal*

Just remember that just because you're not losing weight doesn't mean you're not losing bodyfat. A little water weight (or even muscle gain if you've been strength training consistently for several weeks) could be cancelling it out on the scale and making it look like nothing's happening.

well i still have to wait til tomorrow for my "official" (digital) weigh-in, but the news today on the grocery store scale - which has been one of the constants, so i can at least judge the amount of loss on THAT scale - showed me down another 2 to 2 1/2 pounds today. :) finally! let's hope it shows up tomorrow!
