Hello all! New to SBD :)

Postby aerisley » Sun Sep 11, 2011 11:08 pm

Hello everyone! I plan on starting South Beach Diet tomorrow, but I'm having a bit of a complication as far as breakfast foods. I don't eat eggs, and I'm used to eating Dannon Light 'n' Fit Yogurt, but it looks like that's a no go anymore (or at least during Phase 1). I've been reading as much as I can, but I'm still at a loss. Any suggestions would be appreciated a lot :)

I don't like eggs either, so breakfast is a struggle, but what I usually do is a few pieces of turkey bacon, string cheese, V8 juice. I alternate my protein, sometimes I have almonds instead of turkey bacon. As far as yogurt, I found that eating plain nonfat greek yogurt with some form of flavoring, I actually used Mio, the drink mix and it tastes pretty good. I used to use raspberry crystal light and it tasted great, but I need to hit the grocery store. I'm thinking of trying sugar free Nesquik in it. Can't wait for Ph2 though to add fruit! Just try to remember it's only 2 weeks right?

This is my second round through SB. I lost 60lbs 5 years ago, gained about 40 of it back and I started back on the beach last Wednesday. I've only lost 3lbs and last time by now I'd lost about 6 or 7 but i was heavier and ate horribly. I changed my eating habits for life, in regards to the fact I never buy bread if it isn't whole grain, or rice that isn't brown, or pasta that isn't whole grain. I used to live on white bread, pasta and junk and even after SB I never went back to the white bread, pasta or rice. So I think 3lbs in 5 days isn't hateful.

I know if I had more variety I'd have more success but I'm a picky eater and broke lol, so I do what I can with what I can ;)

Cottage cheese is good for breakfast, too.

You don't have to eat eggs or specific "breakfast food"-- any lean protein will do.

Thanks for the responses!

I've been reading around and double-checking, and was curious as to whether or not a low carb/low sugar flavored yogurt is okay? Dannon Light 'n' Fit has a Carb & Sugar Control with only 3g total carbs and 2g of sugar. I've never seen them, but they're considered diabetic friendly. Would these be okay, or any of the Dannon Light 'n' Fits?

The Carb Control kinds don't work on any phase, as they have bad ingredients like cream, and they are too low in milk sugars. This isn't an anti-sugar plan. You just have to be careful about added sugars. You actually want the milk sugars from 2 cups daily of real dairy.

The regular Light N Fit types are okay for p2 (with a daily limit of 4-6 oz), but not in p1 since they have added starchy thickeners.

So only plain yogurt in p1-- nonfat or lowfat.
