South Beach TV Dinners, is this true?

Postby lanakat » Thu Sep 01, 2011 5:06 pm

My co-worker said that South Beach as TV Dinners at Target. Is this true? I dont recommend TV Dinners but if SB makes them maybe I would check them out for days when I just want something different or Im in a hurry. Anyone know if its true or if they are worth trying?

I prefer fresh food put together by me myself and I on MOST days...but then there is the other days.....

Those have been around for a long time, but I thought they had been phased out. They're not ideal. Real food is always better, but they were designed for when you're really in a pinch.

There are other frozen foods you could have in a pinch, too. Some are fairly cheap, like steam-in-the-bag vegetables. There are also more expensive healthy frozen dinners made by Kashi, Amy's, and a few other brands that you might find in health food stores.

And don't forget, you can always freeze individual portions of food you have made at home, and microwave them when you need something quick. An easy way to do this is to cook a little extra for your meals, and just freeze one serving in a Ziploc sandwich-sized bag or another plastic container. You can take the food out of the container, put it on a plate, and defrost and heat it in the microwave. IMO, that's the very best option - inexpensive, tasty, healthy, and made just the way you like.

I haven't found anything that contains the right mix of some lean protein, a little good fat, and a lot of low glycemic veggies. The better ones still tend to have not enough vegetables and/or too large of a grain serving. When the SB line of foods came out, the official site published a list of how you could use them, and pretty much everything suggested supplementing with some kind of real food (the link is in the FAQ, if it still works). If you still need to make real food, you might as well do it for the whole meal, in my mind.

There are some frozen soups that have enough vegetables in them, I think. At least they could serve as a substantial snack, to tide you over until you have time for a real meal (if you don't want to eat canned soup, that is.)

I tried them when they first came out and didn't like them at all. In fact, I judged the entire SBD by them and figured the diet was probably like Jenny Craig or something like that where you have to buy prepared food, so I avoided learning anything else about the diet until my doctor explained it a little bit earlier this year and I decided to read the book.

i always make a huge pot of soup and freeze that in individual servings. the gazpacho isn't the best when it's frozen :) but most of them work really well. i take them for lunches at work, but also have them at dinner when i want something fast and warm.
the answer is: you need more veggies.
