I'm starting tomorrow too! I have my meal plan made out. I'm excited and a little scared.
I haven't convinced my SO to do it, but he will be eating the dinners with me!
Glad to have a phase one buddy. :D

You shouldn't feel that way if you're including enough carbs-- from LOTS of veggies, including a couple of half cup servings of beans/legumes daily, and also your dairy (2 cups daily of milk and/or yogurt-- not cheese, which is a protein).

It would also be good to figure out how to stay on the plan long-term rather than jumping on and off it-- it's not really that kind of diet. You can look at what's going on-- planning, mindset, etc.
My FAQ-- food lists, portion guidelines, etc.

Kimboroni, I wasn't really planning on eating a lot of beans/legumes. I'm not really a fan. Are there any veggies that would make up for that or should I really be eating them? I did see a "recipe" for roasted chickpeas which looked yummy and I will probably give that a try.

There are tons of bean recipes you might want to check out. (There's a whole "sticky" called "Beans, Beans, Beans"). You can serve them in a huge number of ways, including in the popular "bean brownie" dessert, not to mention their more traditional use in soups, salads, or hummus. Refried beans are also fine, if they're fat-free or vegetarian. They go well with breakfast, along with eggs, cheese, tomatoes, and/or salsa.

Other sources of good carbs are milk or yogurt. Some vegetables like tomatoes and onions are also pretty good sources. But if you can, do try to include beans as well. Members who have included beans and milk/yogurt have said their energy levels are better and they don't suffer as much from headaches, etc. in the early stages of phase 1. Also, they're a good source of fiber, which you need plenty of. A serving size is 1/3 to 1/2 cup at a time - you can have multiple servings in a day.

So I started out the week really good .... then I got sick (I suffer from back migraines (nothing to do with the SB just the weather)... and low will power!lol) so I stopped completely after a day or so.... :(

Very upset with myself and not very happy when I look in the mirror either

Starting again today...and I am sticking with it!

2 boiled eggs & V8 for breakfast
Cheese String for snack
Chicken Salad (with peppers & tomatoes)

Wish me luck! :D

I'm sure you can do it this time!
I cannot make myself drink the tomato juice. So I've had to rethink.
Yesterday I ate:
B: 2 Egg omelette with peppers and mushrooms.
S:Cheesestring
L;Tuna Salad, Fat free plain yoghurt.
S:20 Roasted peanuts.
D:Warm chicken salad with pinenuts.(I only ate about 5 pinenuts, because I burnt them while I was toasting them.)
I also had a little pot of sugar free jello, and a sugar and caffeine free diet coke.
I really struggle with cravings to eat in the evening, so the coke and drinking water helped me abstain from wanting to snack.

This morning for breakfast, I had scrambled eggs with spinach, (2 eggs and half a cup of spinach) and some mushrooms that were lightly cooked in a teensie bit of olive oil. I had a glass of milk too. So far so good.
The rest of the day looks like this:
S: cucumber slices
L:Cauliflower soup. 1 cup fat free plain yoghurt.
S:Cheesestring
D:Stuffed green peppers with salad
Des: more sugar free jelly.

I've also got plans to make chilli, to up my bean intake. That is one of the few dishes I like that have beans in them. I'm going on the hunt for some more recipes.

2 lbs down- only 30 something more to go!

Hi!
I'm weighing in every morning. I know people say not to do that, but even if it's up, it's not the end of the world for me. I'm going to keep a graph, and mark down my weight weekly on saturday mornings. At the minute I'm just scale happy. Also, I started cutting down a bit before I started. I didn't have a "last hurrah", so me being down 2lbs probably isn't entirely from two days on SB!
How're you finding it so far?
I'm finding evenings the hardest, I usually snack on savoury stuff in front of the tv at this time.

Hey

Yeah I started my original weight loss in June, manged to lose half a stone through diet and exercise. But I felt I wasn't necessarily making the right food choices even if they were low in calories (e.g cheese baked snacks). Then I was browsing on Amazon and found the book and couldn't wait to start. I'm finding it okay actually, surprised myself. I don't have a massive sweet tooth and I love fish, shellfish, salad and veg so its all okay so far! I'm a little worried about getting bored with what I cook but we shall see.

I am a massive snacker, especially in the evening so I feel your pain. I've just been eating good stuff. Like yesterday I had celery with hummus and today I had celery with light cheese triangle. Cherry tomatoes are also my best friend (glad they changed the limit of 10!) Also adoring nuts but being careful to stick to the right portion sizes.

How about you? Any snacks you feel you're relying on?

Btw, for anyone reading this, there is no limit on tomatoes in any phase. You can enjoy them as much as you like, as part of a balanced meal plan. :)

Well I'm not a huge salad person, so I've really had to make an effort to get in my vegetables so far. I've made a few things that have surprised me, things I would never have thought I would enjoy. Stuffed peppers yesterday were great!
As far as snacks go, I've discovered I hate celery with a passion. So I'm sticking with nuts and cheese until I can go shopping for some different veggies. I do like eating cucumber slices though. I'm also going to get my hands on some chickpeas to snack on.
I think I'm already becoming dependent on my jello in the evenings, I savour that little pot of sugar free goodness.
I'm going to have to buy some cherry tomatoes, I never even thought about them as a snack!

I think I'm holding up well. I'm housesitting for my parents, and my brother keeps making cheese toasties and talking about kfc. There is also a ton of chips and chocolate in the cupboard. I managed to make SO fries yesterday, without being tempted. I'm quite proud of myself so far!
Have you had any weak moments so far? I nearly went crazy yesterday when we went into the store to get milk. To save myself from going chocolate mad, I bought a magazine and some peanuts. :)

Hey, I'm new to South Beach. Started Phase 1 on the 2nd of August!

I'm also trying to expand my taste for veggies. Rarely ate any before.

I don't like fish, so I hope chicken breast doesn't grow old.

Have you tried jicama for a snack? So delicious!

Hey guys

Realised liquid, Abbeyrd (awesome name by the way, I adore The Beatles) and myself are all going for the same goal weight!

I found the first day soooo hard. Nearly went mad on biscuits! But didn't, was really proud of myself.
I live with my boyfriend and his friend and neither are doing it with me. Today I had lemon prawns with asparagus, spinach and courgette and my boyfriend had sausages and chips! The friend also eats really terrible fried food and stuff all the time so it's quite hard. So I know where you coming from with regards to your brother.

It's also my birthday on Friday, no cake for me! Lol. I'm hoping he might become more supportive as I go on.

I read your posts about sugar free jelly so yesterday I went and got some and it's so good! Think I will have it for dessert every night hah.

AbbeyRd why don't you try turkey? Has a really different flavour to chicken. We can also have stirloin steak is we cut all the fat off! I have some in the fridge for a day when I'm really craving.

Also, where are you guys from?
