What a great feeling to realize that even without thinking about it, you're naturally drawn to healthy foods! I've been noticing a similar change in my tastes, and it feels very empowering.

It sounds like you are doing a lot of working out. Do you think it's possible the reason the scale is not moving is because you are gaining a lot of muscle, which weighs more than fat? Ignoring the scale, do you feel smaller? Are you noticing a different fit in your clothes? Maybe you should start measuring inches in addition to pounds.

Hi Graffiti! I am grateful to be naturally drawn to healthy foods and there are certain foods that just make me go "yuck!" I could be starving to death and still be able to say no to a donut.

You make a good point that my lack of weight loss might be due to muscle gain. I do see a small difference in my clothes and I see some slight muscle definition. I'm happy about that because I had noticed over the past year or two I was getting pretty soft. My biggest problem is that I can't get diet and exercise to BOTH happen at the same time. I seem to be a one or the other kind of person. Gosh, if I could really focus and buckle myself down, I could lose some weight! I've really got to just make up my mind, eat well and keep exercising, and GET IT DONE!

I've been journaling here for years. I'll have to look back at the early entries but I think my original starting weight was somewhere in the 140's. Over the years I've gotten to 135 and stayed there for a long time, but then creeped up and down and back up through the years, peaking most recently at 152. My original goal weight was 125, which I've never even gotten close to since I turned 40, but it had been my weight during most of my 30's. I'm focusing on 135 now. I'd love to see that happen for me. A fit and firm 135 sounds like a good weight for a 47 year old woman.
-----------------------------------------
Later:
I had planned on doing the 30 Day Shred along with a treadmill walk, but yikes! My butt so was sore from yesterday's workout! :D
So I did a 6 mile walk/run on my treadmill, burning about 630 calories in 90 minutes. (Oh, my gosh, 90 minutes! I hope it doesn't take me that long to do the 10K next week. Hopefully I'll be motivated by the other runners and get along a little faster... we'll see...)
Tomorrow I am scheduled to do the 30 Day Shred. I think that no matter how sore my butt muscles are, I should go for it.

Also, my eating has been spot on today so far. Dinner is still ahead of me which is going to be fish (talapia) on a bed of romaine with some roasted chickpeas and a half cup of ff yogurt for dessert. I had tons of veggies at lunch with my chicken breast and quinoa, but not at breakfast. My husband cooked eggs and veggie sausage for me. :D

Good eating, tons of veggies, great day.

Walk/run on treadmill, 3 miles.

Mostly I'm pleased with how I pushed myself to workout when I was so incredibly tired this afternoon. Two more days til summer vacation!

Hi Play-doh! You sound like you are doing awesome! Your workouts are great and your menus look so good. I bet you are going to have a big drop very soon on the scale. I am like you, I can't seem to get both eating and exercise good at the same time but I have been doing a lot better recently. I hope that it lasts! Have a great weekend.....they are tough on me, especially with the holiday but I am going to try to stick with it besides a few beers here and there. :?

Hi Maureen, thanks for the encouragement! I'm so glad to hear you're doing well too! This weekend could be hard for me too since I'm officially, as of today, on summer break. I'm walk/running a 10K on Monday and I'm afraid beer might be a huge temptation afterward.

This morning I got up and did a lovely 3 mile run around the park. I didn't time myself, but I did it without walking at all. I'm participating in a 10K on Monday and even though it's just for fun (lots of walking and laughing with friends) it's good to know that I could run at least half of it if I wanted to. I felt really good.

This summer I'm going to train for a 10K in earnest.

Thanks, Lauren! The 10K was really fun. There were 60,000 participants - yes, SIXTY THOUSAND - and along the sidewalks were bands, swag booths, people bellly dancing, and people cheering us on. It was so fun to be a part of that huge crazy scene.

As far as the race goes, we had a lot of little kids with us and since we wanted to stay together as a group, we walked the whole way. At the end, I wasn't tired at all. In fact, when I got home I thought about doing my 30 Day Shred routine but we had a cookout and a friend over instead.

So my "race" was all about friends, fun, music, and a little exercise. It was perfect!

Now, back to work. I really want to run a 10K this fall and do well.
Today I'll walk/run intervals on my treadmill for 4 miles.

Edited:
I ended up walking/running 5 miles on the treadmill and I did it in 60 minutes. I was pretty happy about that.

My exercise has been going well and I'm feeling strong and energetic. I'm sure changes are happening in my body but I don't see them. What I really need to get right is my eating. I'm eating good foods, lots of veggies etc, but then I grab the kids' bag of SmartFood and before I know it I've stood there and eaten half of it! Every day I seem to mess up big somehow.

So my goals for today:
- eat SBD right
- walk 2 miles and do 30 Day Shred

I'll check in later today and record how I did.

Update:
I walked a mile, did the 30 Day Shred, then walked two more miles. I keep the pace at 4.1 mph.

I ate:
B - egg, asparagus
S - 8 almonds
L - 2 pieces of talapia, green salad with spoonful of blue cheese drsg, roasted yellow squash, broccolli, and asparagus
S - 2 cracker with thin slice of cheese and hummus
S - got hungry and grabbed two handfuls of chee-tos. Darnit! then had a couple of wheat crackers with hummus
D - Yogurt, veggies, roasted chickpeas

Also, since my stomach is STILL weird from taking antibiotics I've been sipping on kefir and taking acidopholis. I think it's working.

I was tempted to get on the scale this morning but if it disappoints me, the gloom of the moment could lead to cheetoes and cookies. Maybe I'll wait until July 1 to get on the scale.

I like the idea of setting my goals in the morning and then checking back in to record whether or not I met them. So, for today, my exercise will be to do the 30 Day Shred workout and for eating, I will stay away from crackers and cheetoes. That certainly sounds do-able.

Well, I messed up yesterday. It wasn't terribly awful, but it did include a slice of cheese pizza and no exercise. The good part was that I had a lot of fun with my children. :D

This morning I got up at 6:00 and was out the door running by 7:00. I ran the three mile park run and although I was tired at the end, I did run the whole time. I need to get a watch so I can see how long it's taking me. I'm guessing it was 45 minutes.

Now, if I could just get my eating right today...

It is so good hearing about your exercise, Play-doh. The race does sound like fun! I also like your goal setting idea in the morning followed by an evaluation later in the day.

Have a good weekend!!! :D

Thanks, Lauren! I hope you're having a great weekend too!

Well, yesterday I had planned on a three mile treadmill walk/run and a 30 Day Shred work out, but for some reason my computer refused to play the DVD. I fooled around with it later, and got it working again, but it was too late for the Shred. So I just did 3 miles on the treadmill.

I had thought my stomach was better, but last night I got up four times to go to the bathroom and my stomach kept cramping up. Today I'm eating carefully and taking acidophilus again but I'm feeling woozy and tired. I dressed up for my workout and then said no, I should rest today. I'm really bummed though. I've had stomach problems ever since I had to take Zithromax last month for my sinus infection. That's a lot of days of having to go to the bathroom so much! Most of the time I've felt okay though.

If I get more energy later today, I may try again to workout. Otherwise, I may just read and write all day.

The acidophilus and kefir are working. My stomach feels really good today! Maybe I just need to keep doing this for a month or so just to make sure my stomach is all set back to normal.

My eating today has been very good, lots of veggies, very little cheese, no crackers or other bad stuff. I took my kids for a treat at the ice cream shop and managed to come out without anything for myself. *pats self on back* and although I don't regret not getting anything, I did feel kind of sad. But I hopped on the treadmill as soon as we came home and I walked, but mostly ran, 4 miles. I did it in 48 minutes.

I'll try to find time to write my food down later.
