It's about time for goingforward

Postby goingforward » Mon May 16, 2011 12:13 am

Hi Everyone!
Little bit about myself. I am a student, married with two little boys, 8 and 6 years old, adorable and cute. Last October gained over 42 pounds in about seven weeks. First time in my whole life that got overweight. I got very depressed, and each day I am trying to be more positive in order to feel emotionally better. HATE looking at myself like this, nothing fits, feel huge, and has been a challenge to go to school or to go anywhere because I do not want anybody to see me like this. I know this is not a healthy attitude at all, because anything might happen at any time, and I can not stop living just because there are some extra pounds on me. My husband and my children love me and need me. I started SB on March 21, everything was working well, till I started gaining weight back, and I know that was not the normal weight you gain on P2. Anyway, right now working with a doctor, a personal trainer and a nutritionist. I am still doing SB but with some changes. Basically, my intake of carbs is limited. These changes will last only two weeks to see the effects on my body. More changes might come along the way. I exercise 6X per week, always have, so no problem on that part. SB is not that different to my previous WOE, have always loved veggies, fruits and healthy stuff, love WW bread, in fact that is the kind of bread that we all eat here, but once in a while my husband buys French bread, which I absolutely LOVE. It is my weakness, however never affected my weight at all. I felt today like eating lots of WW bread, but did not give in, decided to post to forget about those awful thoughts. Planning to post as often as I can, and I welcome visitors. This forum has helped me so much, it keeps me going. Thank you all!!!

I just have a small break between classes at school and decided to post. My days are so easy when I am busy at school, there is no time for cravings. My finals started today, and get very nervous, hate finals. I'll be done at the end of next week. My older son has a singing performance tomorrow at school, and he is horrified, I try to encourage him a lot, but I understand how he feels. It is almost the end of the school year, and do not have any summer plans yet for my boys, I will be taking classes in the summer. Our budget is tighter than even since I started school, so there is no money for any of the things my kids would love to do. It is good however, that they understand our financial situation. Just my school alone is very expensive, and do not have any financial aid so far.
For lunch I am having grilled chicken with roasted veggies, and a salad with lettuce and lots of other vegetables. I baked cauliflower last night for my dinner today, and will have some ground turkey too, with my vegetables and salad too. I am feeling very energetic, went to the gym very early in the morning as usual, my cardio session was longer though. My next weight in day will be next Monday, let's see. Well, it is time for me to go back to class. Have a wonderful day everyone. :D

Congratulations for choosing SB to help get your health back on track. You're juggling quite a bit, so staying organized will help. You didn't say what changes you're making to the plan, but I assume you're still in Phase 1. Just to reassure you that the cravings will get better. For some people they never leave completely, but you should see a definite difference after the first two weeks. Hang in there - it gets easier in Phase 2.

thanks lakegran2 and Chris55 for stopping by.
Chris I have been doing P2 for over a month. I went to the doctor and some changes were made. Basically, I am having only one starch per day for two weeks, the two weeks end next Monday, and we will see from there. My doctor likes SB, so I will be following it. The ultimate idea is to know if my body is more sensitive to fats or carbs, (good ones, of course). Taking into consideration my physical training and the way I have eaten my whole life, I should not have any weight gain problems, unfortunately, my hormones are all messed up. Also, the stress of going through this, my negative attitude and my desperation make everything worse. I am learning to be more positive and more patient. Weight loss is not an easy process, (not linear as our friend "Redrox" said) especially if there are other factors different than food, that are affecting it. I need to accept that results take time, and there are lots of bumps along the way, but I also know, that if I keep going, if I keep eating healthy, exercising and following my doctor advices, eventually the weight will come off. I agree with "lakegran2" opinion on this forum, it helps to post, it helps to know that I am not alone, there are other people out there going through challenges, people who are struggling too, people whose circumstances are much, much worse, and they keep "goinforward" .
As far as food, had my traditional eggs with lots of veggies for breakfast and oatmeal. I will have ground turkey with tomatoes for snack, broiled fish with grilled zucchini and bell peppers for lunch, for afternoon snack do not know yet, and for dinner, turkey meatloaf with mushrooms, green beans and salad. That's all for now!! :) :) By the way, forgot to confess, had a WW slice of bread last night, lateeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, ops, , but enjoyed every tiny bit of it  .

I couldn't sleep for a while last night, so pulled out my SB cookbook - the one with the orange cover. I started reading, and in it Dr. A. actually says that most people will only be able to handle 1-2 servings of starch per day. That seems to describe me. I do much better with one starch serving for dinner and maybe one at lunch or snack time. If I have it early in the day it messes me up big time! I think some of us are just more sensitive, so taking your transition to Phase 2 very slowly is probably a good idea.

I am on finals at school, hopefully finishing next week. I feel so sad today. . I am taking medications for my hormonal issues, but I am so big, they are making me retain water, and I feel worse and bigger than ever. This is pushing me down big time. I am so depressed. I do not want to be like this, because I never was. I am afraid of being even bigger. Hormones are so delicate, everything might go wrong when they are not working well for ay reason. They are like the command center of your body, especially the thyroid hormone. I am glad to have this place where I can post and vent and feel much better. It has been raining here as crazy. My son is looking forward to start swimming and of course he is counting on me, and honestly, I tried my swimming suit last night and started to cry. I look horrible. I am having a hard time studying, going to school, and having a normal life, just because emotionally I am not OK. Enough complaining, I know. I believe in God, I know he is with me, and with him everything is possible. Having another big exam tomorrow, better get back to study. Hasta la vista!!

TGIF!
Having my last final today of the week and continuing next week. Last final next Wednesday, can't wait. Today for breakfast I had:

Eggs with spinach, onions, red bell peppers, cabbage and carrots. Was really good. For snack I am planning to have a piece of turkey burger with cucumbers, and for lunch Baked salmon with lentils, green beans and a salad with lettuce, tomatoes, radishes and jicama, for afternoon snack and dinner, no idea yet. Raining today again. I am looking forward to finishing my finals to go outdoor with the kids, well, if the weather let us. Went to the gym early today in the morning and had a great workout, feeling better today. I am going to update my signature, the current weight is not correct, since taking the pills for my hormones, weight is way higher than that.

Congratulations on being almost done with finals! I'm sure you will feel much less stressed when that is all over. In the meantime, best of luck! Don't be too hard on yourself.

Thank you graffitigarden. Yes. the stress will be gone, well, at least for two weeks, before starting my summer term.

I keep gaining weight due to the treatment for my hormones. Foodwise, I am doing fine and exercising, watched a movie last night on Hallmark channel, that made me reflect so much upon the blessings that I enjoy every single day of my life. I have no reason to complaint, I need to learn to be more grateful, humble and patient. Studying very hard for next week, last final on Wednesday. Good day everyone!!

Hi Goingforward, wow, that must be so tough on you to have hormones that aren't letting you feel what you truly, in your heart, feel. It's almost as if they mask the happiness that you'd be feeling otherwise. I don't know very much about how hormones work, but my heart goes out to you.

How long will you be on the treatment? Does your doctor expect that when the treatment is finished you'll feel better emotionally?

At any rate, it sounds like you're doing everything just right with your eating and exercise, so good for you! Best wishes on your exams!

Thanks for stopping by play-doh. I do not know how long the treatment will last. The idea is to bring all of my hormone levels to my normal range, and in consequence, my weight. The medications make me retain water, and I feel bigger than ever, had some more lab work done today, and let's see what happens. As far as my emotional status, I need to learn to feel better regardless of the treatment results, because the stress and anxiety might worsen the situation. I feel very stressed out with my finals, and on top of that, my extra weight. My finals end tomorrow, and I am sure I will feel better. Patience is what I need. Good day everyone!

Raining again. Just had my last final, and it feels so great :D :D However, I am up 2 more pounds :( , this is driving me NUTS!!!. That is why my signature says "Do not want to know" for my current weight.  Have a short time off before summer term begins, but honestly, do not feel like doing much. I feel I can not be happy with all of these extra pounds on me. I know, I know, I should not feel like this, but can't help it.  My two little boys have two more weeks of school, and I am excited. I will not have much time to spend with them anyway, but at least they do not have to get up early in the morning to go to school, and I do not have to worry about lunch or snacks, and so forth. I would like to try the roasted garbanzo beans today, I love garbanzo, and I made a huge batch yesterday. Other than that, not much to say, I wish I could feel better, well, I could if I want, I know it. I have to pray, and the Lord will give me the strength and the peace I need. See ya!
