Results for ladies with 25 lbs or less to lose?

Postby MissLori » Mon May 09, 2011 7:48 pm

I'm curious what your weight loss results were like in P1 and P2? I am starting Phase 1 tomorrow, and have about 20 lbs to lose (starting at 160 lbs). I am hoping for 6 lbs in the first 2 weeks, but that may not be realistic for someone who has a bit less to lose. Especially since I am also over 40. :) Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this, and what your losses were like.
Thanks all!

A general rule of thumb based on anecdotal reporting here is likely 10%-20% of the total you would hope to lose, so maybe 2-4 lbs is more realistic. But as always, P1 isn't about weight loss and most of it is water weight anyway. The purposes of P1 are to help reset your metabolism and lay the foundation for P2 and P3 healthy eating for the rest of your life. P1 really has little to do with weight loss, although it is nice if it occurs! :)

So, is Phase 2 more for weight loss then? I'd still be curious how well those with not a lot to lose do on this diet.

Yes, p2 is more the weight loss stage. It's also where you develop new habits of balanced eating so that you can keep the weight off (if you go back to your old ways, you'll go back to your old weight). P1 only sets the stage.

While I had a lot to lose initially, eventually we all become people without much to lose, and I can say that the pace definitely slows down the closer you get to your goal. Just look toward longterm results and keeping the weight off rather than a quick fix. This should be a food makeover.

Lori,

I did SBD once before and had pretty good success. Got sloppy and plan to start back tomorrow. I am looking to lose 20 lbs as well. I am 6'2" tall and a runner so you'd think I wouldn't have an issue but my sweet tooth has really taken over my life lately! :x So now I start fresh. The last time I did SBD I didn't lose much (had about 30 to lose then) in the first 2 weeks. I think maybe 3-4 lbs. But in P2 it came off at a rate of 1 lb per week and in 3 months time I had shed the whole 30 lbs. Let me know how Day 1 went for you!

People almost always lose less in the second week. The initial drop in weight that first week is mostly water weight. Losing bodyfat takes consistent work over time. That's what you do in p2.

I started this diet with a goal of losing about 15 pounds. My starting weight was 152, so I thought 6 pounds in phase one would be ideal, but very hard to accomplish. To my suprise I lost 6 pounds the first week! I made sure I had 3 well portioned meals a day along with the snacks, and I feel great! I've decided to stay in phase one a little longer, and it is proving to be difficult but much worth it!!

Unless your cravings just aren't going away, it's counterproductive to linger in p1.

I am still troubled with cravings for carbs! I am going to try it out for another week in hopes that it will make the cravings diminish a little more before I start encorporating new foods. I don't want to fall back into my old ways!

I have a lot more to lose, rougly 80lbs. When I started SB back in April, I lost 13lbs in 12 days. I know that people say its mosly water weight but my pants were totally sagging and people began to notice that I was dropping the pounds.

Hello,

I have been on the SB Diet for 2 and a half weeks. I have moved into Phase 2 and have been for 4 days. I am looking to lose 20lbs. I am 5'2 and 148 and looking to get back down to my pre pregnancy weight. At this moment, I can't say I have lost a pound, maybe 2lbs, not really sure because I have a dial scale (not digital) and I don't really think its completely accurate.
I have been exercising, for 30 minutes a day 5 days a week. So at his point, I am losing hope...lol. I am going to stick with the diet & exercise regardless because I can tell that I feel better and the exercise is getting me back into shape.

Hey Mamamorgan
Definitely consider getting a digital scale. It is really helpful to chart your progress vs. a dial one. When DH and I started SBD in 2004 we owned no scale- big mistake- so we bought one from Wal-Mart. I am sure having no scale contributed to our weight since we had nothing to gage by!

I also have been going to the gym 4-5X a week. The one thing I did notice recently is my scale went up a few but clothes stayed the same , maybe even became a little more loose. I put on muscle for sure (a trainer told a friend that the eliptical is known for that which I was using, so I changed my routine with other cardio things) My husband also had the same effect when he joined martial arts. Scale moved slowly but he kept needing new smaller pants and smaller belt! So definitely consider fit of your regualr items. Good luck :D

I have 15 lbs. to lose (baby weight I've been carrying around for 6+ years), and I just finished P1 on 7/6. I lost 5.2 lbs., of which 4 lbs. came off the first week and the other 1.2 the second week. I've read what everyone's posted about it being mostly water weight and I've mentally prepared myself for the weight loss to slow, stall, or come back in P2. Thankfully, so far, I'm continuing to see the numbers go down on the scale.

What I'm loving most about SB is when I look back at the food I'm eating - It's so much healthier than I used to eat. I'm eating so many more veggies, beans, nuts and yogurt than I used to, plus I've introduced fruit this first week of P1. And I've had to make it through the temptations and difficult choices at birthday parties, 4th of July celebrations, eating out, and amusement parks. Being able to face those difficult situations and make healthy choices is helping me to transition my thinking from this being a diet to being a WOE/WOL.

Just wanted to share my results so far for the curious. This board has been crucial in my process for encouragement and information. Good luck to all those using SB to achieve healthier lives.
