Should I read "SB Supercharged"

Postby Mike. » Sat Dec 11, 2010 5:16 pm

Hello all,

The subject says it all. I did SB years ago and was successful. At the time I purchased the original book. I have read through this book again and am committed to come back to the beach.

Have things changed that much to warrant me purchasing the Supercharged Book? From what I see the diet over the years has changed slightly but these changes have been posted online. Other than this the new book has an exercise plan included. I used to run and am planning on getting back to that as my exercise.

From my understanding there are some new recipes and obviously the biggest change was the explicitly included interval based exercise program. But the dietary program is fundamentally the same. You can find the updated food lists current with the Supercharged book linked into the FAQ topics within the forum here and the menu planning guidelines also linked in there are unchanged as well. So probably not a great deal to be gained from reading it from your perspective, although you can always check it out of a library to review it without paying for it as well!

My local library has it, so I borrowed it just for a pep talk from Dr. A. It's pretty much the same stuff, with a big section on exercise, and some new recipes. The exercise section is interesting because it recommends interval training, bumping up your intensity for a few minutes at a time. I've incorporated that in my not so frequent workouts! So it's worth reading, maybe not worth buying!

I agree with Chris. The section on excercise is pretty good.
There are some videos, maybe you can gt them on YouTube.

Personally, I have the original edition and also South Beach Supercharged, and I feel SB Supercharged is a must-have. Updated lists, updated restaurant guidelines, exercise, tips, etc. It rocks.

Also, Dr. A is coming out with a new book in September. It's called The South Beach Wake-Up Call: Dr. Agatston's Real-Life Program for Reversing our Toxic Lifestyle. I can't wait! I actually have it on pre-order from amazon! Sometimes they release pre-orders a month earlier for some reason.
