lakegran walks the beach again

Postby lakegran72 » Mon Nov 08, 2010 5:35 pm

:D I am back for support and accountability, after being away from the forum for most of 2 years.
I am in week 2 of phase 1 and enjoying it thoroughly.
It is a lot more fun now, knowing so many "tricks" and aids to being beachy ,
I know pounds aren't the goal (right) but still it feels good to see that scales go from 172.9to 166.2 in a week.
I began this lifestyle sometime in '04 or '05. and slowly but pretty painlessly
losing 30 lbs in about 3 years and then for 2 years I became a phase 3 beacher. Somehow (LOL) last year about this time I managed to gain back about 12 lb. that have refused to leave me.
So I am getting a head start on Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. I have cauliflower in the steamer for a nice Shepherds pie and just spoiling the heck out of myself with shrimp coctail snacks and some favorite old recipes I had gotten away from even though truthfully I have enjoyed them very much for most of the last 5 years.

It is so neat to see some of the same "faces" here that helped me so much last time I did this..

I hope to be disaplined enough to post several times a week again, for that helps keep me on track
Time for me to go " lurking " for old friends and new ideas to keep this fresh and interesting.

Hi! I've been at this for quite a while, so have had to deal with eating out.

For fast food on the road, I usually opt for Wendy's - their new chicken/apple/blue cheese salad is fabulous and you can get a half size (it's huge); also their chili and side salad is good and inexpensive.

At regular restaurants I usually go for broiled seafood and salad, asking for veggie of the day instead of starch. Soup and salad is usually a good option in many places.

Your best bet is to check out websites for the chain restaurants you like and also for the smaller mom and pop ones - most have menus online these days. You can scout the places out ahead of time. Then if you want to meet friends for dinner, you can suggest a place that's SB friendly. I check for places online if I'm going to travel, too, so I don't get stuck someplace without any good options.

Hello lakegran, thanks for stopping by my journal, always a pleasure to meet new people here.

My DH has been making vegan potato salad that tastes very close to the old way. Veganaise (instead of mayo), red onions, mustard, salt, pepper, celery seed, Dorthy Lynch dressing, cidar vinegar and unpealed potatoes. I'm having some right now....yummy. Lower fat, no coleserol but like everything, moderation is key.

I wish you sucess on your journey!

Hi lakegran,
I remember you from before. I did SB back about 5 years ago and did well--lost 50 pounds in 7 months and met my goal. Then I let life get in the way and gained alot back. Been up and down. My fault, no excuses. I know what I need to do. Just wanted to say hi and tell you to keep on. I see that you don't exercise as much as you want, and I do that, too, but we just have to press on and not beat ourselves up over it. I'm just a little under your 11/2/10 weight, so we're pretty close, but my ultimate goal is less than yours. I seem to fall off the Beach easier than I did 5 years ago, but I'm not giving up. I don't have a journal, but I like to visit journals of a few people that I've know all these years, like yellobeuty. I just recognized your name and wanted to say hi and wish you well.

Good Morning

Hi Dene.
It's nice to see you again. Yes it was easy to slip back into my old woe and it did the same thing for me that it had done in the past.
You know the saying.." Insanity is doing the same etc......
I am working at not checking the scales daily during this weight loss period.
Such an part of my morning routine...I do think it is probably the best thing for me after getting back to phase 3.

The forum is the key for me.......when I start my day reviewing my menu for the day before .....and checking out whats happening with my fellow beachers i am better able to keep my focus.
Have a great day.

Sorry about your kitty - but she or he had a very long lovely life with you!

It looks like your'e doing great with your food - love your term "fautato" - it took me a minute to figure it out, though! I love eggs and beans for breakfast, too. I poach my egg, put it on black beans with some mexican seasoning and lf cheddar.

sorry about the kitty. My daughter still misses her long-time kitty that we had to have put down a couple years ago. She was 16. and we almost lost her horse last week due to colic, but the vet was able to treat her and she is fine. This after having her other horse put down a few years ago when our daughter was still in college. I cared about my daughter's pets, but I LOVE my daughter and hated to see her hurting.

I worked out at the gym for an hour this morning. Feeling very virtuous today.

You're doing great. Keep it up!

Thanks for your good wishes Dene and Chris
I am embarrassed to admit that I should have let my Godey (black longhair beauty ,rescued) go several weeks ago but he would have a good day and I would hope.
I am sad but I did my real grieving then.
Yep he was a healthy great cat for all those years and even in this last year he still had many playful times.

Friday menu

B egg and beans
S npb in celery
L eggplant cottage cheese,mozarella, rollup
S cheese cubes
D 4 0z Salmon /parm crust, 1/2 C northerns, and 1 C roasted veggies
 extra snack greek yogurt

My breakfast has been the same since beginning this woe 5 years ago
I have always looooved fried potatoes for breakfast , I substituted green beans sauteed w onion and whatever, and began to like that better than the dreaded potatoes
I have eaten this 5 out of 7 days for 5 years and find it strangely satisfying I often add 1 lite sausage link but no toast.

hungry hungry hungry all day ( no legumes until end of day ?) in crock pot all day
gripey stomach most of day

No exercise but lots of busy work at home and work
Water lots

Recipe: Breakfast hashbrown beans
Saute smallish onion chopped add 2 lb frozen beans add (whatever... red pepper flakes, chicken boullion, masala spice, chopped bell pepper, Etc)
I use my wok add small amount of water cover steam about 7 or 8 minutes still nice and firm.
enough for 4 or 5 days for me
I just start them on my griddle every morning before I do my egg and..... viola egg and hashbeans :D

cold they are good to add to salads etc to get in enough veggies for the day

Your food is much more interesting than mine! We have oatmeal about 5 days a week, usually eggs the other days. On Sundays before church, I usually make oatmeal pancakes from a recipe I found here a long time ago. Very filling, since we don't get a morning snack due to church.

Have a great weekend.
