Good Thyroid doctor in Europe?

Postby arkledessie » Fri May 21, 2010 11:24 am

Hi - I am new to this forum but desperately hope someone might just know of a good thyroid doc somewhere in Europe (preferably France Spain or Belgium/Switzerland) who would prescribe desiccated thyroid. I am british but now live in France and out here no doctor will prescribe natural thyroid. I am desperate but cannot find anyone anywhere!

Well I guess someone thought I broke some rule on my post that was deleted. I will say that I have no connection whatsoever with the site that I recommended, and that the tablets have helped me a great deal since finding them recently. From what I had seen in the past on this site I thought it was a friendly site, I didn´t realise that recommendations were not allowed.

I am trying to lose weight, I could lose at least a stone, and am trying to do this by following SB rules. When I follow the rules, I lose, when I don´t, I gain.

I hope you find someone to get you the thyroid help you need, it can be a very frustrating journey.

Thanks jinxy - I know some forums won't permit recommendations - I guess they see it as some sort of advertising!

Anyway, I did try the tablets you recommended about 2 years ago, but unfortunately they didn't make me feel better and ultimately I began to get heart palpitations, so was advised to stop them. Weird I know, but there you are - that's me!

Some kind person has suggested that before I go to any great expense in tracking down a thyroid "guru" I should try persuading my GP to give me a low dose of thyroxine, just to see if it moves my levels up a bit. If it does it will suggest that thyroid if my problem (which has been in doubt before due to "normal" TSH) and I can go from there. He has given me hope!

Thanks again and good luck to you!

Jinxy, your post was reported by one of the forum members, as a new poster with only one post that recommends a product does resemble advertising, but you weren't banned from posting like clear-cut spammers would be. You are welcome to become an active member here for discussing your SB journey. I hope there aren't any hard feelings.

I am sorry that I upset any of the forum members, I honestly have no connection. Having a suspected thyroid problem myself I just wanted to recommend to the OP something that I have recently found, after months of trawling the internet.

Corinne, I hope you can get your GP to prescribe you thyroxine to give it a try, with the follow up blood tests that you should have. My doctor here in Spain uses the reference value of TSH less than 4.5 then no problem, and will do no further investigation. I had a previous test where my TSH was higher, a follow up where it was 4.5, and that is that they will do no more. However I have a lot of the symptons, since I started the tablets I have started to feel better, I may pay and go private to have some more tests done, cause I don´t want to end up being overactive.

Good luck!

Thanks Jinxy - I am not too optimistic but will have a try based on my symptoms and very low FT4 and FT3 levels. Worth a try anyway! Here in France one good thing is that it is possible to go to several doctors instead of just having to be signed on with one, so I guess I could try one or two more if unsuccessful. I will try and let you know how I get on. Thanks so much for your communication, and good luck! Corinne
