Beth, just an idea of something to get for your son while you're away. He definitely can't forget you if he gets to hug you every night!

A Woman of Many Hats

Postby purenavygirl » Thu Nov 19, 2009 2:20 pm

Hello everyone... Thank you for all the thoughts, prayers and well wishes. I absolutely loved the hug a hero doll! I had dinner with my parents last night and I couldn't just ruin the mood with the deployment news. So, I waited until this morning and sent a message out. Kinda corny, but it was a little easier (for me) that way.

Also, I went to the doc this morning and have orders to get a full lipid profile and lipoprotein(a) test done. I will fast tonight and have the blood drawn first thing tomorrow morning. This is something that I am really interested in see the results of.

I'm a little mad with myself - although it's really not right - I haven't exercised this week. Tonight, I have to pack for my trip this weekend, so I don't see me getting anything in. :? What's a girl to do?

What a yummy menu! You are so good about getting your veggies in. I need to be better at that! Don't beat yourself up about the exercise. Will you be able to get any in over the weekend on the trip?

I went to that link and looked at those dolls. Aren't they great! I'm betting any child would love to have one even if their parent's weren't in the military or away, eh? :)

Well, when you read my journal today, you'll be in for a shocker! :) Hehe, I not only used the "e" word, I am making an "e" plan! And really, it's all YOUR fault! Thank you for that! :) :)

You have a spectacular day, Miss Beth. I'll be thinking of you!

Hello all my fellow cyber friends! :P

I have a short day today, so I won't have much time to pop into journals. I am heading to FL to see my dear friend of 20+ years who isn't doing the greatest. She's not hospitalized, but I'm unsure where things are going right now with her health. I wanted to make sure that I got a chance to see her "doing well" versus at a funeral. (I know, dark, but it's more than likely the truth...) Plus, now with the deployment in my near future, I'm glad that I made the arrangements to see her.

I'm not really sure what this trip's going to entail. I'm hoping that we can get out a little bit - maybe even walk the beach (literally!) if she's up do it one day. She eats fairly healthy and balanced for the most part, so I'm not worried about bad choices. I'm not going to worry about exercise, either. Not this trip. It's not about me, this is all for her.

Anyway, I have to get to work and wrap up my tasks for the day. I will be back to the forums on Tuesday. Hope everyone has a wonderfully beachy weekend!

Oh, I had my blood draw (fasting) for my lipid panel and lipoprotein(a) this morning. I didn't get my arse out of bed and was running late. I'm having a grab 'n go breakfast (again). No time for veggies and I forgot to grab my vitamins! :x Oh well, I'm hoping to have a grilled chicken salad for lunch.

Hi Beth,
Just read one of Sharley's P2 posts that you will be deploying, and wanted to stop by to say, my hat off to you! You are the real deal! And I am competely certain that other than missing your son, you will be fine.
I was surprised to read about your friend, not sure what the problem but hope she will be OK. It is hard to see those we love not do well.
Thinking of you, and wishing you a wonderful holiday ( and a peachy lipid profile- remember to keep the lows low, the highs high = LDL and HDL) and will visit you again.

A Woman of Many Hats

Postby purenavygirl » Sun Nov 22, 2009 4:46 pm

Good morning... I have a little down time and was able to hop on the 'net for a while.

Michelle, Judi, thanks for stopping by! I'll definitely keep you posted on the blood work. Also, I'm feeling better about the deployment. I still haven't had much time to talk to the hubby about it, but either way, it will work out. The best way to approach something like that is positively. Any other way and you won't make it through in good shape.

My trip is going "alright". My friend just turned 29 years on on 10/31. We've been friends since 1st grade = 20+ year now! She has Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and learned late last year she had cervical cancer. A few weeks ago, her petscan revealed it was back. She also has swelling of her lymph nodes and the tube that comes from your bladder (urethra (sp?). To make a long story short - either the cancer or the swelling of those nodes (= kidney failure) will get the best of her. She's had her lifetime dosage of radiation and she's too weak and doesn't weigh enough to receive chemo. It's been a hard visit, as she's very sleepy and dealing with all the emotions that are brought on when facing death. She's like my sister and all I can do is be here for her. I'm her strong person right now.

I could type much more, but I don't want to broadcast her life. I guess I'm posting this so if things go crazy (CRAZIER!) for me, this is part of the reason why.

While I'm on here, I'll post a quick bit about my food...horrible, but that's to be expected.

I haven't been drinking enough water. I am picking up the intake today, otherwise I will get dehydrated and feel like sh*t by the time I get home tomorrow evening. On Friday, I ate a cobb salad and skinny SF latte at the airport. We had pizza (yikes! 4 slices...) for dinner and 8 oz regular ginger ale.

Yesterday, I had 2 cups of coffee with half and half and regular sugar, an English muffin with butter and jam, and for dinner hamburger with cole slaw and fresh strawberries and pineapple.

Today, I've had a bowl of cereal wth whole milk (all they have, tryng t fatten dear friend up!) and an English muffin with brummel and brown butter. I have had water today, so that's good. Nobody's really eating much. Hopefully, if my friend is feeling better this afternoon/evening, we'll get out a little.

We did play Wii last night. A game of bowling and quite a few rounds of golf. So, I got some "movement" in! ha

Anyway, for some reason, this forum s acting up on their computer, so I'm going to go. I won't be online tomorrow, so I'll see you on Tuesday. Take care and love to all!

Beth, clearly right now, your priority is to be there for your friend. CF is aweful; cervical CA is no fun either. Together, well, I am sure she has a tough time of it, especially being so young. I feel so bad for her and also for you, but we have few answers to things like this...
Just hang in there best you can and concentrate on your friend. You can walk the beach better when you are in your own environment, with more control.
Wishing you the best and thinking of you

Yep, what she said!

I miss you both and I'll catch up with you later this week when DD is at work and I'm with Little Buddy for naptime! Until then, keep being the strong women that you are and I'll talk with you soon. Warm hugs to your friend, Beth. Be sure to tell her a story about walking the beach! :)

Hi Beth

I am so sorry to hear about your dear friend. She is lucky to have you as her support. I can't imagine how hard this is for her... and for you. My thoughts are with you.

I also read about your deployment. I think you are handling it amazingly well. They say that moving is one of the top 5 stressors in our lives so I would worry about you if you weren't having these nervous feelings about your son and husband. But I'm sure it will all work out. And like you say, you will have internet access and have some means of comunicating with your family. Besides, he would never forget his super mommy!

I can't imagine what this must feel like, but you're one tough cookie (sugar-free of course) and you're doing great!

A Woman of Many Hats

Postby purenavygirl » Tue Nov 24, 2009 6:51 pm

Hi ladies! (and gents, if there are any reading...)

We'll, I've survived my trip. It was definitely a hard one, but well worth it. The family really needed someone else there for them and someone to be strong - I happened to be that person for the last few days. My friend really perked up Saturday evening and Sunday and was good to go on Monday morning. In fact, we did get out on Sunday afternoon and had THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD I've had in a while for dinner. We had their fresh made in front of you guaccamole (sp?) and I had a platter (no rice, double refried beans) with some yummy stuff. Then, for dessert, hot apple pie served on a sizzling plate (like fajitas come on) with butter brandy sauce and cinnamon ice cream. OMG - sinful - the first OD on sugar I've had since the beginning of October. It was soooooo worth it. It made my friend smile and she enjoyed herself. I couldn't ask for more.

With that, thank you for all the wonderful posts while I was away. I thank you for the prayers - she needs them to help hers reach even higher. She's a true person of faith, and it's beautiful... I would like to say that my post on my foods while I was there was more a reflection of how I was feeling at the time. Argh! I know I didn't eat right and I was feeling crappy because of it. That was my concern. Anyway, I've survived and am home now starting a new week (and approaching Turkey Day - yikes!)

Hump Day - yay!

(And the last day of the work week...)

I don't have much time, so I'm going to keep this short. No exercise yet this week and need to go to the grocery store in lieu of the upcoming holiday. I am also an on-call STNA at a local nursing home. I haven't picked up any shifts since September (busy, busy) and I need to. So, I'm thinking of picking up Thursday and/or Friday. My side of the family is celebrating the holiday on Saturday, so it should be fine.

I haven't really let on to this, but things are a little crazy around the homefront (between DH and myself). Working opposite shifts doesn't help, nor does all the travelling I've done. Either which way, he's been not really interactive with me and just an all around pain. I know there are two sides to every story, but I just can't get his. Anyway, it's built up and I'm a little bitter right now, that I really don't care if I make it to his folks on Thursday. To those of you married, do you ever get the feeling that your in-laws could probably care less if you were around? When it's his family's time, it's always about DH and DS (who is his parent's first and only grandchild at this time - we're the oldest).

I'm not on bad terms, but sometimes, I really think they probably think about if DH had a different wife. The longer we've been married and the further along we trod in life, more and more just seems different.

Okay, so I'm going down a tangent I usually don't do publically. I'm going to post, but not go into more detail. Anyway, yeah, I'm running out of time. With that, have a happy Turkey Day! I don't know when I'll be online next, so just expect next Monday.

Happy long weekend and Thanksgiving to you! Sorry to hear things are stressful at home. That often happens at the holidays for some reason?? I hope you were able to enjoy the day. You are such a strong, great person, try to remember all the good reasons to be thankful! How did you do with the tempting holiday foods? I had a couple cheats, but overall did well. Catch up with you soon.
