Who Watches The Biggest Loser??

Postby Beaching It » Wed Sep 16, 2009 1:23 am

The new season of the Biggest Loser is on right now and I'm watching it. Wow!! I find this show inspiring and disturbing all at the same time. They made them walk/run a mile before they even reached the ranch, and 2 of them ended up in the hospital. It's amazing to see how badly N. America is out of shape!! I feel guilty watching this show while sitting on my butt!!

I watched it a few seasons, and I did watch it last night.... while I think it's great these people are getting help for their weight.. it's also completely unrealistic. Sure, I could lose 10 lbs in the first week if I had someone to cook my meals for me, portion everything out to exact, and to yell in my face to get me moving... but I wouldn't have a clue when I got home how to manage without any of that. I would hope there's something behind the scenes that helps them learn to eat healthy, and how to maintain their weight loss.

I also believe to a point, that those scales are rigged. Either that, or someone who's lost 24 lbs in a week is really pushing it. I don't think that's healthy, or a good example to set for people who are trying on their own. It's no wonder some contestants get sick and end up in the hospital.

While I like the show, and find it motivating sometimes, I'm also disgusted by it. If nothing else, it really makes me want to continue on SBD, and enjoy what I'm doing even more. If I can do it on my own, I think that will be the greatest accomplishment I've ever achieved :D

I agree Batgirl, it is unrealistic. It does appear that they are getting help when they're on their own since they don't seem to gain the weight back. I read somewhere that they exercise 8 hours a day!! Crazy!

I'd believe that.... those people are taken away from their jobs, and their homes, and have nothing else to do all day, but exercise, right? Again.. unrealistic, but possible. I must say, i do envy that jillian's body. She is in incredible shape.

Hey guys...can I jump in here too??
I LOVE the biggest Loser....................I think it really helps people to see extremely overweight (Obese) people actually lose weight ! Can you imagine how many obese people watch that show??? You kind of say.........."well if THEY can lose weight...then maybe it is possible for me too"
When I had 75 pounds to lose it just seemed like an impossible number ! I would get depressed just thinking about trying to lose weight. Then I would see a 350 pound woman working her butt off....drenched in sweat.........while being screamed at.....yet she continued to work out. Amazing !! If she could do it....then I could do it too.
*
Yes..........working out in a gym for 6 to 8 hours a day is not realistic for the normal person....but keep in mind....these ARE normal people ! Just that glimmer of hope....it may be enough to convince someone to just try............and make them feel like it IS possible.
*
I think it is one of the best shows on TV............giving people hope. :D

I love watching this show because of the amazing results at the end. Every single one of them looks completely different and amazingly better (and HAPPIER) at the end of their journey. And I believe that they are learning how to change their lives and deal with their core issues that perhaps played a role in why they became obese in the beginning. It's really an inspiring show. When Jillian is screaming in their faces while they are sweating their butts off, ready to pass out, I think to myself "wow!!! could I continue on??" It's crazy! Love it. :D

I love this show. I do agree it's unrealistic, but look how many people have turned their lives around because of it.

Just started the new season last night. :D

The second episode is on tonight here. Love it! I feel like I should be working out while watching the show. Instead I sit on the couch eating my black bean brownies or fudgsicle

thats canada wide right? so it'll be on again for me too... i'll have to watch. I've never watched it from beginning to end, so i'd like to follow a team and see. I watched part fo the mother daughter or family one a couple seasons back, really enjoyed that one.

And yeah, i can say it's unrealistic and all that.. but really... i'm just jealous  I wish i had time to work out like they do, and wish I had someone like Jillian to kick my butt in gear when I get lazy. Not to mention, to have someone cook all my meals and have it all portioned out when i get home. Would just make life so much easier.

OH MY GOD! Can you imagine what WE would look like if we were on that show. AMAZING! I would love to work out 8 hours a day with Gillian yelling in my face, just because I know how utterly amazing I will look at the end...

Yes it's on tonight in Canada. I never got into this show until the first time they did the family one., I started watching and got hooked. I love it. Can't wait for tonight!!

You can also watch it online on Hulu. They're a few days behind the TV debut, but you can still see it if you don't have time at home.

I watched it too.........and finally figured out their plan !
Weight loss boils down to calories in versus calories out.
In order to lose a pound you have to burn 3500 calories MORE than you consumed.
(1 pound = 3500 calories)
The folks on the biggest loser are allowed 1200 calories per day.
Their calories out goal is 6000 calories per day.
*
That is a bunch of calories out !! I too have the bodybugg and my burn goal (calories out) is 2400 calories per day. My calories-in goal is 1750 calories per day which leaves a calorie deficit of 650 calores per day.
650 calorie deficit X 7 days = 4550 calorie deficit per week............meaning I should lose about 1.25 pounds per week..........AND I AM !!!
*
1200 calories per day is a tiny amount of food, and 6000 calories per day to burn.......they have GOT to be working out...HARD...for at least 6 hours or more.
Just for me to get to the 2400 calorie burn means at least 1.25 hours of a good workout at the gym....and then staying active all thru the rest of the day.
*
Those folks are working extremely hard for those results...........and the numbers they are putting up are truely amazing !
So..........do any of you have a "favorite" picked out yet??? I know it is still kind of early in the season....but so far my heart goes out to the gal who lost her husband and 2 tiny children last year. I can not even imagine how she made it through something so terrible.
Yet, she always had a smile on her face.........amazing !

I like her too... but I also like Coach Mo. He seems to really encourage people, and he's active in his community. I'm torn between those two. I also have a spot for Julio... I think there's more to him than we see... he does his work outs alone, and it shows, because he's pulling big numbers. Everyone seems to be ticked off at him for not working as hard... but I think he does behind the scenes. He seems to have some self esteem issues. So I don't know.. any of those 3 would be good with me. I think if they lose, they'll all have the success at home to keep it off.

Hey Guys..............I used the trick they showed on tuesdays show (using zucchinni strips instead of spagetti noodles)
I make a great stir-fry dish with shrimp, tomato's, mushrooms and black olives and Whole wheat spagetti noodles.
So tonight I used only 1/2 of the regular amount of the WW pasta and added in the zuchunni strips to replace them (I baked the zuchunni strips at 460 for about 11 minutes after spraying them with olive oil)....It was wonderful !! Next time we are using ONLY the zuchinni...no noodles at all.
I love the tips the trainers give you right before the commercials.
Also...gotta agree Batgirl.........I like the coach too...........not so much on Julio....guess I will have to take a closer look next week !
