Supplements

Postby thepaintedman » Thu Sep 17, 2009 7:01 pm

New to the boards, well not new, but back... haven't been around ina few years.

I was curious if anyone is using supplements to enhance weight loss.

A trainer I know recommended taking B12, EGCG, and White Kidney Bean Extract. I have been doing so, and also taking Fish Oil (though that is more due to borderline cholesterol issues). Specifically, I take Fish Oil and a Green Tea Supplement twice a day each, B12 in the mornings and a White Kidney Bean Extract supplement with Breakfast and Lunch.

Just wanted to know if anyone thinks they help or don't or if they use anything?

Thanks,

I moved this from the "Phase 2" forum to the "Health and Medical Issues" forum. But let us know if you think it belongs in a different forum. :)

I've found eating good healthy foods and adequate exercise to be the most effective tools for weight loss and long term weight management. The rate of loss was never really an issue for me. I wanted to do it "right", not necessarily "quickly". YMMV.

I concur, but the supplements I take are not just for weight loss. They probably help, but the green tea, b12, and fish oil are also greta for my overall health.

Thanks.

Dr.A. suggests to take a good multi-vitamin and minerals plus 1 capsule of omega-3 fish oil. Other than that, good food is all we need.

I take a lot of supplements, but for other reasons than weight loss.

I take:
Shaklee mutivitamin w/iron (I eat little to no red meat)
Shaklee vitamin B supplement
Shaklee vitamin C supplement
Magnesium
Calcium
Turmeric
Liquid sublingual B supplement

I was really ill this spring with either mono or H1N1. By the time I got tested, my doc couldn't tell which it was. Whichever, the infection left me completely drained for months. Like, can't find the will to get out of bed drained. I had finally recovered, when I caught another virus/flu last month. Had all kinds of tests run, and didn't learn much, except that my B12 levels are "low normal." So I started taking quality vitamins just to give me a booster of nutrients to help fight off any other bugs that might be floating around. The B supplements are also helping my energy levels tremendously, which has been a huge help in getting back to working out.

I take magnesium b/c it is supposed to help with muscle cramps and migraines (both of which I suffer from). During this last go-round of illness, I also had horribly inflamed joints, esp. in my fingers. I had read that turmeric could help alleviate joint pain, so I tried it. I also drastically cut down on the massive amounts of nightshade veggies I was eating (mainly peppers, eggplant, and tomatoes... LOTS of them). The inflammation is now almost completely gone. Have no idea if it was the supplements, the veggies, or just the passing of the bug.
