Hypo & Week 1 Results

Postby kristyintx » Sat Apr 25, 2009 1:31 pm

Hello all. I started SBD on 4/18. I have followed the diet to the T. On 4/20 I started working out again - I have either been to the gym or took a walk every day this week. Also - Aunt Flo reared her ugly head - almost two FRIGGIN WEEKS early that insensitive hag. I wonder if the female issues have anything to do with SBD? Or maybe Hypo? Although I haven't had erratic monthlies before starting SBD.

ANYHOW - I'm down 2 lbs. I'm happy, as I know ANY loss with Hypo is a good thing. To tell you the truth, when I started reading the posts on this board I started panicking - many posts seemed so dismal!

So, slow and steady wins the race - right?

Good luck all!

Hi, welcome to the SBD! I am also Hypo (started as Hyper though), I know from other posts that the early period has to do with the SBD (I think the lack of carbs, but you can Up your veggies - which have good carbs) and not with being Hypo, it'll work itself out soon enough :)

Yes, being Hypo the weight loss is much slower, but hey it's a loss right? With your added exercise I'm sure you'll lose even faster. Good Luck! You will start to feel so much better with this lifestyle! (Don't forget that being hypo restricts you on some veggies like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, etc. Potatoes are good for us but can't really have it on this diet, but sweet potatoes are okay in phase 2)...

Hi ! Can I chime in too??
The "forbidden" veggies are only forbidden if they are uncooked.
Soy....on the other hand...is always forbidden to us Hypo folks. !

OMG broccoli and cabbage won't affect my thyroid (synthroid rather) if it's cooked?? I didn't know that! Surprisingly broccoli is one of my favorite veggies :)

Yup...it is true ! You can have all the steamed broccolli & cooked cabbage you want..........No limit on the veggies :D ! I LOVE cooked cabbage drizzled with a little Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) and lemon. (too bad that it stinks up the house while cooking it.............so I now cook mine in the open garage......(Brussel sprouts too...........they tend to really make the house smell )

Enjoy those veggies !

I have been hypothyroid for over 10 years now and no one has ever told me not to eat these foods raw!!! I just did a little research and it pops up all over the place!! I have been taking synthroid all of this time and have been to several endocronologists because of moving...

Thanks for the info.
