how does it work?
what does it do?
how long does it work
how long can you take it
what are it's known side effects?
what are the warnings?

NO they do not work. diet and lifestyle changes and patience are the only things that work.

I have seen a lot of people around me use them and lose weight.

However, in taking pills they never changed the way they looked at food. Also, they never educated themselves in understanding the 'side effects' of certain foods.

In all cases they gained back all of the weight they lost and then some.

I can't imagine that kind of flucuation is good for your system.

Some work, especially the ones with Ephedra--but I wouldn't take the stuff. Anyway, they're best used when you're down to the last few pounds.

I speak from experience, They do NOT work.

I honestly have tried every diet pill out there, Hydroxycut, Metabolife, Metabolite, Green Tea pills, ect) Every time a "new" diet pill came out, I was on it. The ONLY thing that worked for me was/is South Beach!

Don't work.

If it was that easy to lose weight, you'd have way more yo-yo dieters. BAD for your health, anyway.

If you get diet pills prescribed by a doctor, they will definately work. The one I saw prescribed me a pill to curb hunger, and another pill to speed up my thyroid. There were just two problems. Foirst, most health insurance plans will not cover them. You will pay out $115.00 to $145.00 per month. Second, it does nothing to help you change your overeating addiction. Southbeach has worked, so far, in curbing my addiction to over eating the bad types of foods. Once again, I am having a financial problem. It is more expensive to buy healthy foods. It is far cheaper to buy McDonalds or 7-11 snacks.

Over the counter diet pills and fat burners do not work. Buying those products is like flushing money down the toilet every month.

Honestly, I don't understand this mentality. It costs about $1 (give or take) for a head of lettuce. Figure another $1-2 for some other veggies to toss with the lettuce. That will feed my family healthy vegetables for 2 days (plus a lunch for me. I have 5 people in my family. That comes to $4 to feed 11 servings of veggies. That's $.36 per person. Say I serve baked chicken. I'll bake a lot of chicken breasts, so I don't have to cook every night. Figure around $12 of chicken, that will last 2-3 nights, plus lunch for me for 2 days. That's 17 servings. That comes to $.70 per person. I really like Quinoa, so that is probably the biggest expense. That is probably around $3/night (5 servings). That comes to about $.60 per person. Add it together and a good, healthy, SB meal costs around$1.66 per person. Let's be extravagant, and say I purchased some out of season fruit for desert, and make that $2.66 per person. I highly doubt that McDonald's can beat that for value.

What world are you living in Bec? What I wrote is 100% true. It IS more expensive to buy healthy type foods v. unhealthy type foods. That is a fact. I have a family of 5, and I go shopping. Your prices for veggies, lettuce, and chicken are far lower than I have seen in stores. Actually, McDonalds can beat that, because you have not factored in TIME into your flawed equations. Me and my wife have full time jobs. I am not making a judgment, but you sound like a stay-at-home mom. If I stayed at home with the kids, I would probably have the time to shop around, clip coupons, and find the prices you quoted above. Unforunately, I do not have any time. What I wrote is true; healthy foods are more expensive, and everyone seems to understand that except you.

True, I do SAH, however, I buy in bulk and when there are sales. When chicken breasts are on sale for under $2/pound, I stock up. I buy in season produce, which makes it cheaper. I have a little one that requires a lot of my time and attention, not to mention shuttling children to various activities, schools, etc. So, while you may think I have all day to prepare dinner, I really don't. I cook in larger batches and freeze and reheat, I use the crockpot a lot. These are all things that anyone can do. Buying convenience foods and fast food isn't healthy, and isn't cheaper. I live in a major metropolitan area. Food is quite expensive, although, not as expensive as some areas of the country, I realize. For the record, I have a neighbor who is a single, working mom of 4 kids, and manages on a similar budget. I'm not unique, nor am I overly indulged. Healthy, nutritious, fresh foods are options.

So, I was right when I guessed that you were a Stay-At-Home mom. What tipped me off was you quoting the prices of foods. I have no idea what the typical price of chicken is. If I asked my wife she would have a better idea, but she probably wouldn't have the exact figures that you did. My point is that unhealthy food is far cheaper than healthy food, which is why poor people all over my country (USA) are suffering from Obesity. You would think it was the opposite, but that simply isn't true. For a poor mother of four who only gets food stamps, it makes more sense to buy the .50 cent snacks at a store or the $1.00 menu at McDonalds for their kids. It is a sad commentary on this society that the poorer you are in the USA, the more likely it is that you will become obese.

Kudos to you. You figured it out that I stay home with the kids.

You are dead wrong about the cost of food, though. That's it, I'm not arguing any more. When you educate yourself and learn about shopping smartly and in a healthful manner, come back to me. I'm done.
