For the Sugar free fudgsicles, are they any out there w/out aspartame or splenda? I looked at my local Wild Oats but only found one made with cane sugar.

Thanks!

I don't know what else they would use. Isn't saccharin considered "bad?" so I don't think companies make their products w/ it. (Not sure if you want to use that one anyways.)

Other than that I don't know what they would be made w/ ya know? You can maybe make your own though. Google a recipe or check out the recipe summary (some of them use pudding powder w/ probably has aspartame) but...

this link should help you (you can use whatever sweetener you like)

The Fudgesicle brand uses aspartame I think. And they are NOT sugar free, they are No Sugar Added. They are made with skim milk so they will have the natural sugars that are in the milk present in the fudge pops. If you are finding sugar free fudge pops, they are not the recommended fudge pops because they are not being made with milk or are being made with an ultrarefined and ultraprocessed form of milk to remove most of the natural sugars.

I think they all use some form of artificial sweeteners. If you have an aversion to them, then the ones with cane sugar might be your best bet but I'd make it a P2 treat at that point. In order for it to be sold as food, it can only use FDA approved artificial or natural sweeteners.

And FWIW, the warnings about saccharin were removed from packaging in 2000 based on better and newer science and issues with the original studies and their actual relevance to humans. It is still used by many people in the form of the brand name of Sweet n Low.

Oh! Gotcha! I knew it was still sold b/c my mother buys it but I wasn't sure if companies still stay away from it.

Thanks. 8)

Red in Colorado,

Thanks for all the info! You really have to be a label nazi, don't you? I have really learned a lot from reading this board.

Thanks,

I think they probably do because of all the negative connotations that remain. And believe me, I'm not advocating it's use at all. And there is the matter of it's nasty aftertaste! gack!

*waves* towards Littleton. Yeah, you kind of do. Educating myself was a big part of the process for me. It really helps put you in control when you can ignore their "healthful" marketing claims on the front and back of the packaging and read the real information on the side panel and make that determination for yourself.

Is "Cool Whip Free" OK to use with this dessert or should I just use the light Cool Whip :? Still trying to figure out light vs. fat free items I'm supposed to be using. I've been using the Cool Whip Free for this dessert, but now I'm worried I may be sabotaging the good/SB friendliness of this recipe...but, I do only use 2Tbs at most so maybe I'm not...I DO NOT KNOW, will someone please tell me if the Cool Whip Free is ok? I'm making myself crazy!

Yeah they're pretty much the same thing. I think I've checked ingredients before... there might be 5 less calories in the free than the lite. I think only 1 has the SB logo, but as long as you're sticking to the 2 tablespoons or less, I think it's fine.
