So, what do you do about a PB addiction? Has anyone had to go cold turkey?

I think I've been messing up P1 by eating too much PB (4 to 6 tbsp a day), because I just craved it all the time. Hence, I'm not going to buy it for myself for a while. Eventually I really want to add it back in, but I'm worried having it around the house will cause me to go back to my old ways.

I really like all-natural PB. I would never have thought to buy it pre-SBD--it's one of those things, like lima beans, I never would have thought I would enjoy until I tried it!

Have you tried other nut butters? My current favorite is not PB now, but natural almond butter!! Yum!

I am just starting P2 today - When I started with P1 I read in the "little" blue book in the "Foods to enjoy section" that it listed Peanut Butter - didn't mention anything special about natural or anything like that. So I enjoyed 2TB every night with a glass of skim milk.

About 3 or 4 days into this I was reading further into the book and noticed that it mentioned nut butters again and specified the all natural, etc... I started to panic but I was losing weight and decided that 2TB of peanut butter a night is not going to kill me - or kill my weight loss at least.

I am 11 pounds down and still enjoying my PB every night as I enter P2. When I notice a stall (and I am positive that will happen), I will possibly eliminate or switch to all natural.

I have heard of the Better n Peanut Butter and have heard that it is good...

It definately is, its sweeter without the added sugars, 45% less calories and 80% less fat. I found myself addicted to it. It is so good. I dont know if its SB though.

Serving size confused!!

Postby sas72 » Sun Aug 12, 2007 3:25 am

HELP!!
I'm a little confused about portions.... on the "good" list for phase 1, it states that turkey bacon (2 slices per day), however, for the nuts and peanut butter it states limits, but not per day.....so is this limit supposed to be "per serving"?
So if the book says 2 tbs allowed of PB, does that mean @ one sitting or is that supposed to be it for the day?

It should state 2 tbs per day as it does for the turkey bacon....same with the nuts....is it limited to 30 pistachios per day....or 30 pistachios at one sitting as a serving for a snack or meal? Get what I mean??

Also, it doesn't state anything about "special" peanut butter....so I've been enjoying regular old JIF. Yes, I've read the posts about the natural peanut butter and how once you go natural, you won't want the "other" stuff any longer, but for now....JIF is saving my hide!!! I'm on day 5 and have lost 5 lbs....so I'm doing something right I guess....but I'm abusing the peanut butter and nuts if we're only allowed 2 tbs PER DAY and not at a serving.

Yes it's PER DAY. Check out the FAQ's stickied at the tops of the forums - all of this info can be found in there (plus questions you may never knew you had will be answered too  ). The good carbs good fats (or w/e it's called) book is different from the regular blue SB book (the original). To get a good understanding, you should read the original book (both would be best) PLUS all of the stickies here since there have been updates and such and the info is much more specific (all info is from the official site).

Btw, natural is what is allowed and I believe the gfgc book and the original states that... no?

yes, it does state natural peanut butter only. the only ingredients should be peanuts (and salt if salted).

i however did not know this in the beginning and used skippy natural bc it was natural. i use that sometimes and the "real" natural sometimes.

My PB snack- 2 tbs. of chunky Smuckers natural PB on 2 celery sticks- is my fave meal of the day, hands down. Better than dinner, even better than dessert. I just love it!

I love Smart Balance Omega peanut butter. It does not separate like other pbs at room temp- does not have any hydrogenated oils, provides 1000 mg omega 3 per 2 Tablespoon. No refined sugar but does add small amt of molasses as 4th ingredient. Per 2 Tablespoon serving, there is 1 gm of sugar (compared to 3 gm in Skippy which also hydrogenates oils).

still - should only be peanuts with or without salt to be on plan....always up to the individual, I just felt a need to reiterate since the thread had been popped up!

1g of sugar per 2 tablespoons is comparable to natural peanut butter, and you are eating the added sugar with a lot of fat and protein, so this is probably OK in terms of the sugar content. I can't be sure of the other ingredients and I don't know where all those omega-3s are coming from - added canola oil maybe? You might want to check out the calories in comparison to one of the natural peanut butters, next time you're in the supermarket.
