How do you set and celebrate your weight goal(s)?

Postby LyndaB » Wed Jul 21, 2004 6:12 pm

Hi everyone...

I just read a thread from a friend who indicates she sets a 2 lb per week goal for herself. I responded that I set 5 lb goals for myself, but with no timeframe. When I hit 195, my goal became 190; then 185 and so on.

It made me wonder...

Do most of you set a mini-goal and then set your final goal? Are there others like us that set small goals? Do you possibly *gasp* just set your final goal?

And... when you achieve one of your goals, how do you celebrate? I personally do a little bellydance shimmy and get all psyched for the next goal!!

I'd love to see what you have to say... thanks for sharing! Enjoy the Beach!

I celebrated reaching my goal with total shock, and prompty decided to continue my weight loss - lol.

My goal was long term - six months - and to fit into size 10 clothing. I reached that after 3 months, so am now striving to be a size 6 by the time my six months are up (October). I've already purchased two size 6 skirts, so I don't think it will be too tricky for the pants to follow...

I have found this diet so easy and I feel SO MUCH BETTER, that I hardly feel like I'm "doing" anything at all.

As far as traditional celebrating goes - go shopping! NOTHING I wore in April fits me anymore, so I've had to buy all new clothes!

Good Luck to all!

Geez... new clothes, now THAT'S a concept for a celebration tool... here I was thinking of sitting down to a big ole piece of cheesecake smothered in blueberry topping with whipped cream oozing everywhere...

No, you've convinced me... new clothes it is!

I have 2 goals but only 1 is set right now. First one is to get under 200lbs. I will set the second goal once I get to my first one.

As for celebrating I have nothing special planned other than to keep enjoying the compliments I am getting.

I have set a goal to lose 50 lbs. (2 more to go) when I reach that (hopefully this weekend)----- IPOD BABY!!!! I am going to get an IPOD. I walk and run and cycle at the Y 4 times a week. Music makes it fly by. The radio stinks because of commercials, the CD players are bulky and skip, so.... IPOD here I come.

My next goal (which I have no prize planned for is reaching my husbands weight (he keeps losing though  he is doing SBD too), so I have 9-10 more lbs. to get to his weight.

My next big goal, to get under 200, 24lbs. to go on that one, again no prize planned. Just a celebration!!!!!

I picked out a new kitchen gadget (a Misto oil sprayer that can be used in place of pre-packaged non-stick cooking spray), to celebrate reaching my goal. I am getting close, :D so last week I bought it, but won't let myself use it until I reach my goal.

Hey, let us know how you like your sprayer. You'll use it for olive oil, right? I'm wondering how it will be because olive oil is so much more dense than the other oils.

Thanks!

Good luck reaching your goal!!! :D

I set 1 long term goal. I just recently lowered the weight, from 135-140 to 130-135. it's funny, because the smaller i get the more i realize that i still have a lot more fat to go! i'm just shrinking, yet, my body looks the exact same shape, with pretty much the exact same rolls, just in smaller portions. so i definitely still have at least 15 lbs of fat left.

this is ok though, because i'm gonna be smaller than i thought i would be!

For me, it's all about the mini goals. I even set a mini-mini goal. What I have done is set my main goal of 170lb, or 97 lost, with no timeframe. My mini goal is to be under 230 by August....I'm so close. Then my mini-mini goal, this one is always on hand. The way that it goes is, when I was over 250, I decided that being under 250 would be awesome. Once I hit 249, that goal changed to 239....and so on and so forth. Since I have my goal to reach under 230 by August, I guess there is a time frame for that one. My only real reason for the timeframe is for a wedding, the first week in August. When that is all said and done I will set another mini goal just to keep me on track.

How I celebrate my success??? Definitely shopping of some kind. Since I am a shoe fanatic, and losing weight doesn't affect that size for me, I tend to stick with shoes. But it could be anything. I have to buy a couple of pairs of pants soon though, but I really don't want a lot of clothes in my closet that are just going to be big on me by the time I hit Phase 3.

The big thing that I will be getting August, if I hit goal, is an MP3 player. I have been bugging my hubby for months for one of these. He finally found one to get me, but they were out of stock. So, I figured what I will do is make it a prize. I'm so very close to goal, so I know that I will get it. But I will continue to work for it.

I was scared to set my final weight...because I wasn't sure how I was going to do on this, and I didn't want to set an unattainable goal!! SO what I did is took the lead of some other folks around here and set a mini-goal. My mini-goal is to be under 220 because its been a long time since I was under 220, but it seems reasonable and attainable. THEN when I get past that I'll re-define my goal final weight. Right now the final goal weight I have there is on the upper end of the 'normal' range for my height on the "ideal" charts. Yeah...I've never matched those charts...I'm not sure who wrote them...but whatever. I did a calculation a few days ago and the 'healthy' range for my height is 105-135 lbs and I dont think I would be healthy at 135 lbs.

Edit: Spending money is my celebration...whether its buying something that I've been wanting (clothes etc) or splurging on something I wouldn't normally get at the grocery store because its too expensive or maybe getting a massage.

I play number games when setting my mini-goals. I started this diet at 223. When I started losing weight, I thought to myself - cool, I'm going to be in the teens soon! And I worked for that. Then, when I entered the teens, I thought, cool - I'm going to be under 210 soon! Now I am 206.5, and I am super-excited to fall under the 200 barrier. I can't wait! I am on my fourth week of the diet, and I just can't fathom that I have lost 17 pounds already. The weight loss itself is enough motivation to keep me going, but as soon as I get down a full clothing size I am going to have a major shopping spree in celebration! :-)

Hey FoxFyre- I started at 237 and my first mini-goal was under 220... Finally hit it about 1.5 weeks ago. Definitely did a little dance then.

As for the other goals... I wanted to lose 10% of my original body weight, 237, which would put me at about 213/214. I'm at 217 now, so I'm sooo close. Maybe I'll hit it by Aug. 1?

My main goal was to be the weight I was when I entered college, which was 170. That was only 4 years ago... amazing I gained so much weight in such a small period of time.

Whoever was talking about the "height/weight" charts - they're nuts some times. I feel dumb saying this, but I am pretty big-boned... I was 170 wearing size 10s (where most people are 12/14 I think). With a goal of 170, that still technically puts me at a BMI of around 27/28... which is still considered overweight. But a size 10 is PLENTY fine with me!

Wow, all of the goals on here I've seen are really good. I only set a mini-goal and then a long term goal.

Now that I think about it, I've decided that I need to have some kind of gift for myself when I get to my mini-goal. Since I too, am a shoe freak, I've decided to buy and pair of stilettos for when I reach my mini-goal. Exciting! I LOOOOVE shoes, so this is definitely an incentive.

Oooh, now I am psyched! I can see those shoes gracing my feet now and with a fabulous outfit I will be hitting the town! :D

Hey everyone,

I set a lot of goals.

I set a phase one goal, a mid-way goal (weight before I quit smoking), and a final goal. Then I set weekly 'soft' goals -- I want to lose 1 or two pounds this week. I'll think I'm 191 now, by next monday I want to be 190. Stuff like that.

sebander -- That's a great idea about getting an mp3 player. I have a small one now, holds 30 songs, but the headphones have been replaced already, the batteries run out, and the connection for the headphones is starting to go. I would love to get a new one! I think I will get one too when I get my final goal!

Does anyone set goals that don't have to do with weight/size?

I have lost twenty pounds, and am now at a weight that I stayed at for a long time. I'm not sure I can lose any more weight, although I would like to be less. What is problematic for me is sticking with the healthy diet. I started this diet to help protect me against diabetes, but it certainly won't do that if I am cheating all the time. So, any ideas how to set and achieve goals that make healthy eating a habitual thing rather than a struggle?
