Dragonfly's Journal

Postby dragonflymt » Fri Mar 26, 2010 1:47 pm

Hi... I would like to introduce myself. I am going to start South Beach on Sunday, April 11, 2010. My current weight is 175 and I'd like to get back down to my pre-baby weight - 125. I have a 4 yr. old, 14 month old and 4 month old. I lost all but 10 pounds after my 4 yr. old just by eating healthier and exercising. These last 2 babies in a row with a lot of bed rest ordered by the dr. helped me pack on the pounds. I'm not even going to go out and buy new big clothes, just going to wear these maternity clothes until I get back down. I'm determined and know that I CAN DO THIS!!! I have a membership to the local gym but will only be able to go on the weekends. I plan on doing the Wii Fit and Wii Active during the days along with stroller rides around the block. I am a stay at home mommy so when the weather gets nice I'm hoping to get outside a lot.

I will be on here a lot asking questions I'm sure...

Thanks :D

Hey Dragonfly!!

I met you on another thread, thought I'd stop by and say welcome to journaling!

You are 5' 6" and you want to get down to 125? I'm 5' 2" and I just don't think I could do that! (I tried and tried but my body thinks it's in love with my fat and won't let go!)

I'll bet those three little ones will keep you moving!! I have four kids - my twins and my oldest son are 18 months apart. I was in the hospital for 11 weeks when I was pregnant with the twins, and even then they were born 9 weeks early. My body has never been the same since! The twins were worth it... but I want my little body back!!

Anyway... if you have any questions I am a journal away and happy to help you out any way I can!!

Thanks Kyan!
Yes, these babies do a number on our bodies... I do know that I may not get back to my 125 but I thought it should be my goal. I would be happy at 135. I used to model back in my young days and I was about 100 at that time. I guess I'm just used to being skinny but I do know that the 100 was not a healthy 100. I've watched my sister go off the deep end - she weighed well over 200 pounds and I know that I wouldn't want to look like that. She had her stomach stapled and it did a number on her body. I really don't want to end up like that. I've been all depressed about all this weight gain - not even wanting to be seen out. I at times don't want to go to the gym because I don't want anyone to see me. I need to get over that! The gym is for me to get back into shape and who cares what people think. I've had 3 babies in 4 years - ---

I will post my daily meals in this thread...and would love your comments! :D

I'm only going to weigh myself once a week.

I'll have a hard time with no sweets!!!

Sugar substitutes?
Healthy fats (such as salad dressing, mayo, EVOO, margarine, etc.)
skim or 1% milk
maybe some back-up frozen veggies for just in case!

Also, is your vanilla non-fat yogurt also sugar free? Free of starches? Otherwise, plain is best for P1. You can add a sugar sub and some other flavors, such as vanilla extract, PB, melted fudgesicle (yum!), etc. to make it taste more like a flavored yogurt.

Great start! How come you're waiting so long to get started? No time like the present!

I have a new baby at home as well - my first - she's 3 months old and the love of my life!!

I currently use Splenda for a sugar sub. I think that is fine to use in South Beach. I'll have to switch the vanilla - non-fat to plain - thx. So I can have the sugar free fudgesicle as snack - right? Also, the South Beach Diet bars - are these used for a snack or a meal replacement?

The reason why I am waiting to start on April 11th is because I just stopped nursing this week. I have avoided a lot of food while nursing and I want to eat these items I've been wanting before I start. ex. chocolate, spicy food, pizza... My b-day is also coming up this week and I'd like to have a nice dinner and dessert. This way I have time to prepare everything I need and get myself psyched up. I also want to plan all my dinner meals. I cook dinner every night and it's always something new. I have about 8 dinners so far...

I'll do the skim milk. We currently use Country Crock - margarine - is this ok to use?

Can we use Canola oil for cooking? - or stick with Extra Virgin Olive Oil??

Congrats on the new baby! Are you nursing and doing South Beach?

Thanks for all the ideas and tips...

Hey there!

Canola oil is fine. I use both that and olive oil - also cooking spray now and then - but mostly olive oil.

I use Splenda, too. The SB bars are a snack. I LOVE the chocolate covered soynuts. I just ordered some SB stuff from Amazon, they had a great price! I can't find the chocolate covered raspberry bars in any stores near me. I got the chocolate raspberry, whipped almond, and chocolate soynuts. Yummy!

Oh you will like them!!

Hey - you asked about my waving cow! You need to upload your photo to something like Photobucket.
Photobucket is free, you just need to sign up. Then after you do that, uploading it to your journal is easy!

Testing to see if I remember how.... Image

Ok, I can help you if you get your dragonfly on a site like photobucket! :D

Awesome!!

Ok, here is what you do:

Go to the top of the page in that blue shaded area and find "User Control Panel" - click on that.

On the next page you will be on the overview page - click the next blue tab which says "Profile".

You will be on the edit profile page. On the far left-hand side of the page, click on "Edit Avatar".

From there, you just copy that photobucket code into "Upload from a URL" and submit! :D

Splenda is fine, that's what I use too. The fudgesicles you will find are No Sugar Added - you won't find sugar free because there is milk in them, which have sugar. The NSA ones are fine (and yummy!). I melt one and mix into my plain yogurt, plus a little splenda, to make faux chocolate ice cream. It's really good and satisfies the ice cream monster.

I don't think the SB bars are recommended, funny enough. If you search for them on the forum, you will see lots of posts about people asking. Apparently they are more for $$$ than nutrition, can you imagine?!

On the margarine, you'll have to read the label. Does it have any partially hydrogenated oils added? What about added sugars? If not, then it's probably fine. I buy Smart Balance - it's a little more expensive, but I love the taste and it's one of the better margarines out there. I don't use much, so the cost isn't a big deal. Canola oil is fine. I use olive oil for everything, I think it has better flavor.

Congrats on your baby! How old? I can see why you want a little break in between! I nursed for a month, but had to stop because apparently I am defective. :( We tried everything and I was very upset about my plan not working out, but baby Nora is doing much better now, so I'm ok with it now - I'm doing the right thing. When I was nursing, what I ate didn't really seem to bother her, so I didn't have to give up much!

Happy Birthday coming up too!
