Ouch, oh, sorry for having been gone awhile. Yes, Mom went home, really miss her, since it's easy to get used to good things....

War Horse was really something, those horses look SO real and so human, unbelievable.

Jeff, as usual, you cracked me up w your walk and poop comment. In my office, I get to experience the walk and fart version on some older patients. They pretend they never did it, and I pretend I never heard them do it. Stinks. Pun intended.

Since mom left, I have had a whole bunch of not very good food days- started w her leftover crackers and downhill from there. On top of all, my dog is being worked up for her cough/issues, this moment having a CT scan- they found something on her latest XRay so now we are following through. Scary, really. So that didn't help w my control over my food.

If that is not enough, my receptionist, who was finally settled in and good, and was supposed to stay for a long time, gave notice- family is moving to CA, one never knows how things work out. Anyway, spent a lot of time reviewing resumes, phone and personal interviews, think I found someone decent. Next project will be to try to find a new office manager, as my current one of 6 months considers my office a far second priority to her many other interests. She does what she must, but she is no manager, can't problem solve and on top of it, talks a lot and loud and not very to the point. So she is getting on my nerves BIG time.

As of yesterday I did decide to take control of the food and so far so good, stopped eating starches and fat, back to veggies and lean proteins.

Bethy, I love the RA horsey, you must know me real well from this board to pick just that one....Yep, I am the one who went up against all odds and won the race (at least for myself), and so yes, I love Rachel Alexandra. BIG thank you. And the colt is a very good one too. Since we just saw Porgy and Bess (another great production), I will join you in singing Summertime!

I see everyone is keeping up w the beach. Will go around some more.

Mary Ann, good to see you.

Lisa, hope you also had a happy Mother's day. I got a handwritten card (funny one) and had the privilege of taking Michael to dinner :)

Maureen- good to see you! I am admiring your brave little guy w the big smile- and you, for doing it all with a smile.

Michelle- Redrox is doing his yoga, he is on FB, see the occasional posts....

Chris, I came out of hiding as you see....and crawling south, to quote Jeff...

Will be coming back regularly from now on. Missed you all!!!!

Hi Judi!! Wow, you sure do have a lot going on! I am so glad that we are both back on track right now....let's lose this weight for good now and not keep backtracking. I am so sick of getting in a funk and finding the energy to get back in here and then working so hard all of the time. Let's have a prolonged downward trend! I have to keep reminding myself that peace will come when I am no longer guilty about my poor diet choices. So many worries will be let go and my life will be soooo much easier because this dieting thing is consuming me right now. I want to wake up every morning knowing that I will eat right, not just hoping that I will. Have a great week and I hope you find some really good help at the office!

RA, You're Back! Yay! Missed you. SO happy about Dora, have to say it again. And it's almost time for the POOL to open! You'll back-stroke those little mistakes right off in no time. Everything's going to be fine! I was a ward-clerk in college, which is kind of like a receptionist I guess, so if you have a no office-help emergency I'll get on the bus to port authority and come wrangle your phones (and Dora can be my under-counter patient-patience enforca).

Whoa, Bethy- I might just take you up on that some day (when you can walk )) How far are you from NYC?

Dora- phew. Exchanged very big trouble for small (tracheal collapse, mild, enlarged l. atrium w grade II regurge). Nothing that would keep her from living FOREVER. Let HER bury ME! Haha

Saw your xray. Wow. You must have done something serious to get all that metal in your leg!

And big thank you for rooting for the Explora. We LOVE her! She is my other colt! :)

Hi Judi! I know that you don't feel like exercising, but you have too!!! LOL! Try getting on your treadmill for just 10 minutes. Listen to a couple of Michael's songs while you are on there and then most likely, you will feel like staying on for a little while longer. I promise you that you will feel soooo much better and the weight will come off a little quicker. A big benefit of some some strength training will be the muscles that will burn more calories just by being there! I know that you love your swimming so keep looking forward to that and you are going to feel so good soon! Getting the eating under control is such a huge step and making it through the weekend is so hard for me but I am determined to get through this weekend so that I don't undo what I worked so hard for the whole last week. Hope you are doing well!! :)

Picturing Dora in a fluffy black veil holding a little shovel...
I'm an hour and 45 minutes from midtown on the transbridge commuter bus.
I'll be your on-call summer emergency back-up receptionist 8)
IF you sing Summertime....you don't want to hear ME sing it.
I sang it to my daughter when she was a baby, she could put her fingers in her ears before she could hold her head up.

Hey Judi,

I am so glad Dora is going to be ok. I also wish you good luck on your office help situation. Our Dermatologist's help is getting on my nerves. We set appointments every six months-so November 2010 she wrote the wrong day on the card for our May 2011 appointment. We showed up a day early. This May-I was thinking that we did not set an appointment due to DH's melanoma situation. I found a card for May 15, 2011 that I kept to remind me to call for an appointment. That was our appointment...DH got the robo-call reminder while I visiting DD. Now we are rescheduled for June 18. I think I am going to have to call a week before and double check it. Wrong day...wrong year...what next? Wrong month?

To answer your question in my journal. For the longest time I kept track of my food in an excel spreadsheet on my laptop. I could cut and paste the same meals as I repeated them. I posted the date, and of course my weight and what I ate. No portion sizes or counting calories. Then I just kind of stopped doing it after almost two years. This January when I needed to lose the stress/grief pounds I knew needed to count calories. I use the "My Plate" on Livestrong. I try to measure portions of starches, but I estimate protein, fruit and veggies. Lean steak or chicken should be the size of a deck of cards. A cup of fruit or veggies would be the size of a baseball. You can keep track of water intake and if you make your food selections from the huge database it will calculate calories, fats, carbs, protein, sodium, fiber, etc. and tally it all up!

You can also keep track of calories burned. I don't bother with that! Since I still probably underestimate what I eat-I just try not to go more than 200 calories over my daily goal. You enter your weight, height, etc. when you register and then determine how much you would like to loose a week and then it tells you how many calories a day you should consume. I use the free version online. You can pay a fee for feedback or for your I-phone. The free one works fine for me. There is also a lot of information about food, nutrition, weight loss, health and fitness on the site.

Now, I still have that old spread sheet and I can go back to it and see when I lost more than a pound or two in a week and I can repeat those menus if I feel I need to get back on track. Oh-and I do have a copy of that spreadsheet at work in case my lap top at home crashes!

JH- I don't eat brussels sprouts but I eat roasted cauliflower constantly.
I make it like this:
http://www.kalynskitchen.com/2007/05/roasted-cauliflower-recipe-with-lemon.html
I usually cut the stuff into small pieces, put it in a ziploc bag and add the oil and lemon and then really Massage the bag so the oil and lemon gets well distributed. I keep the bags of prepped veggies in the fridge so I can pour some on a pan and roast it whenever. It's good with curry powder and/or cumin but also just with the oil and lemon. and it's good with parmesan cheese. The main thing is to get it good and brown when you roast it. I do it on a baking sheet with parchment paper on top. But a glass pan also works Hot oven, at least 425...up to 500. I do broccoli and green beans the same way, with big slices of garlic thrown in the bag. That Kalyn's Kitchen website has recipes for those with photos, too :D .

OK, Judi, I'm with you. We need a plan

I need a major grocery haul today, so I'm hoping to load up on veggies and chickens. When chickens hit .79/lb I stock the freezer. With DS home from college, I need whole ones - he's a thigh man!

I'm going to attempt P1 for 3 days. Except for strawberries since they've just come into season and I am not giving those up. But will eat them with ricotta and NOT ice cream.

Are you with me, Judi? Just a couple of days of P1?? I know I can do it for that long and if I lose some water weight, it will motivate me.

OK Chris, that's a plan. I am partial to blueberries, same difference.

Mon, Tue, Wd P1 with some irresistible fruit.

Thank you for the idea. I DO need a partner in crime. No pun. I have been BAAAAAAD.

Let's check in at least once a day w each other.

I will post the same at your jrnl just to make sure we are getting started.
