I DID IT! I DID IT!

I actually got up early and made it to the gym this morning. However, I was a little late getting there (6:20 am) than I planned, but still made it to work on time! LOL

I did 27 minutes on the E-Beast with cross ramp on level 1 and then up to level 8 half way thru. I wanted to do 30 minutes, but I was already cutting into my weight lifting time. In the weight room, I focused on my arms today. I did most of the arm machines for 3 sets of 10 reps, with the last rep being around 12-15 just to push it. I think the only one I didn't do is the shoulder press (the one you lift/push up). I only did 2 sets on the bicep machine and 1 set on the "butterfly" chest machine. Overall, considering I didn't get all the machines in, I feel pretty good. My workout totalled about 55 minutes.

Oh yeah, I also did the ab weight machine.

Wanda - I'm going to try to do this again tomorrow, but lift on the leg machines and include the lower back in the mix. Next week, it's your turn to jump in! If I can make this happen, I know you can do it!

Lisa - Hello! Thanks for stopping by! I was happy to see the 154, but I need to make it stick until Monday! hehe As you can see, I'm going to start weight lifting a little here and there. I'm not trying to bulk up and be huge, but I wonder if the muscle will hinder my "weight"? I think if I keep it at a toning level, I'll still be able to hit around 145 (which I would be happy at!) Anyway, hope you have a great week as well. And, congrats on your -1 lb!

I made it to the grocery store last night. Spent and arm and a leg. But, now our fridge is stocked and I have fresh veggies et all! I should've eaten before we left, but I thought it would be a "quick trip". The long story short is that we didn't get home and eat dinner until after 9 pm. I wasn't really hungry that late at night, but needed to feed DS. So, I made what was planned: pasta and turkey meatballs. I ended up eating probably 1.5 - 2 C of pasta, just as much sauce and 1 serving of turkey meatballs. I didn't eat any other veggies, as I was too lazy and they didn't really sound good.

Oh, and since I should hold myself accountable, I had one of those blueberry cake donuts from DH before we headed off to the grocery store... It was waxy and sugary, but for some reason, I've decided I like sugary easily available foods lately. Just the one thing is enough to give me the fix I need. However, I think I'm over it and just need to tell myself "no".

With that, have a Tremendous Thursday!

Hi Beth

Hat off to you! *** tips straw hat shading her from sun on the beach***** Good for you, getting in the morning workout!!! From all I know, to tone but not bulk up, you need lighter wts and more reps, not pushing the wt (plus pushing the reps :-))

Big LOL on the turkey balls!!!! Finally, someone else made them! Mine are made with carrots and zucchini grated and mixed w the turkey, spices (onion and garlic powder), and baked in the oven, not cooked in tomato sauce. Try it once. They turn out delicious.

Keep up the 154, soon it will turn into 145! (Just flip the digits, and voila...)

Hi Beth! You're kickin a$$ and takin names on the E-Train. Such a motivator so Thank You for that.

I'll try to get in a day or 2 next week in the morning. Will be trying out the Monday Zumba class again so won't be that day but possibly Wednesday since I do Turbo Kick on Thursday. That will allow me to get in 4 days of workout before weigh in Friday. So for now, i'll commit to Wednesday morning next week. Sound good??!!

Take care of you today

TGIF!

I made it to the gym again this morning. I put in 20-25 minutes on the E-Beast and then did the leg machines, back machine and some ab/oblique work. I feel good and my chest and shoulders are definitely a little sore from yesterday's arm exercises. However, I know it's going to do me good!

So, last night was "alright." I ended up eating one Girl Scout cookie and about 6 leftover steak fries from lunch. I also had a SF chocolate candy and SF fudgesicle later on. I feel like I have PMS, but that really shouldn't be happening until next week, since TOM will be due the week after that. Either way, I am sticking to my guns today and staying away from sweets, unless SB friendly dessert. I shouldn't have a problem, as all my temptations at home are gone and there isn't anything sitting here at work today.

This weekend is going to be busy. DH and I are going to be sanding, priming, and painting our bedroom. I'm looking forward to getting it done, but that's going to be busy! Last time I painted, I remember being a little sore the next day! With that being said, I don't know how much real exercise I'm going to get in. I am taking my "little brother" to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D on Saturday afternoon. Then, on Sunday, we're going to stop by and see Grace's grave and put something out (Sunday would be her 1st birthday) and I have a baby shower to attend in the afternoon along with a family Easter on DH's side. Busy, busy, busy! My goal is to not eat any bad sweets! These type of parties always seem to be my stumbling points.

Please send some good vibes my way to help keep me on the Beach! I want Monday's weigh in to be 155 lbs or less!

Hope each and every one of you has a Fantastic Friday!

Hey Beth, you are doing amazing on the morning exercise!!! Wish I could motivate myself to get up and get it out of the way for the day. I remember a time in my life when I used to do that regularly... Way before kids. How was the 3D movie?? Was it scarey for little kids?? Good luck painting. It's always fun to see the end result. Have a great week.

Hot D*mn! What a weekend!

I ate 3 "bad" things this weekend:

1) I had 2 Fillet Sandwiches and some french fries from McDonald's for dinner on Friday.
2) Took Dustin out for a small ice cream sundae from DQ on Saturday.
3) Ate two bites of mashed potatoes w/ gravy and a piece of Fried(?) chicken on Sunday.

I took Dustin to see Alice in Wonderland, and OMG, that was reallly cool! It wasn't too much of an in your face kind of 3D experience; a lot easier on the eyes. heh heh It was the Tim Burton version of the movie, so a little darker, like he did with Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I wouldn't call it scary, in fact, if my DS would sit thru it, I would have taken him. Lisa, I would recommend it!

I was so busy doing different things this weekend it wasn't even funny. I didn't have time to think! I didn't have time to exercise! I did help sand and prime the walls on Friday and Saturday; DH painted the ceiling last night. I will do the second coat tonight and hopefully we'll have the walls finished within a day or so. I am looking forward to the end result.

I am pleased with myself in that I stayed away from all the sweets at both the Baby Shower and the Easter Gathering. At Easter, there weren't many SB friendly options, so I did my best. I was hungry, and this was my evening meal. I stayed away from as much bad stuff as possible and did eat some fresh veggies (with a little dip, probably not very SB, but I didn't go overboard).

My big falter: I ate waaaaay tooooooo maaaaaaany deviled eggs. Probably 10 or so halves. These were the "decadant" variety, and had some butter (Smart Balance) mixed in, fattening nonetheless.

My weigh in this morning was a flat 157 lbs again. Ugh. If I would've done better over the weekend, I think it would have been 155 like it was on Saturday morning (I peeked after the McD's incident...) My reasons for the jump/stall: I was way too busy to plan good meals. I ate mostly SB friendly foods, but not in the right quantities: I didn't eat near enough veggies any day, I didn't hardly eat any fruit, and I did get "plenty" of whole grain items.

Looking at my calendar, I shouldn't have too many more busy weekends like this any time soon. Thankfully!

Going into PMS this week, as TOM should arrive in about a week. This is going to be tough...

Drill is the coming weekend, but I am going to pack and plan like I did last month. It worked out great!

Exercise goal this week:
Monday: I didn't exercise this morning, but plan to do a little bit tonight after work. Maybe some yoga or something along that line.
Tuesday: I will go to the gym and do some cardio and arm machines before work and I have Water Babies in the evening.
Wednesday: If I don't get something in early in the morning, I will do some WAtP or Yoga in the evening.
Thursday: I will be heading to my NOSC for drill. Mandatory PT: will do elliptical and some leg machines.
Friday: At drill, mandatory PT: elliptical and arm machines.

Top of the morning to ya Beth!! Boy were you a busy woman this weekend. I have to say though, I know you wanted to hit that 155lb mark but I think because you only had a treat each day is why you remained 157lb. This could have been higher if you'd overindluged but you thought about it and made a decision. I'm proud of you and your weigh in looking at the big picture

I ended up working from home this morning but missed Zumba as DD has a late start on Monday (I 'know' this but normally not here so didn't click until a.m. ) and lack of planning. Got in 5 days of exercise last week though so happy about that. Almost passed out on your E-Beast after only 11mins yesterday...man I hate that thing  Need to do it before a class to be able to stay on there longer I think; we'll see.

Take good care of yourself today and happy painting!! 8)

A Woman of Many Hats

Postby purenavygirl » Tue Mar 16, 2010 1:02 pm

For some weird reason, I was a little tired last night right after work. I ended up dozing off (on and off) on our couch for an hour or so. I had DS with me playing one of his Vtech learning games and I snoozed right thru the noise. Anyway, around 7:30 or so, I started in on my "chores". Put the clean dishes away and took care of the dirty ones. Took care of DS evening routine of bath, etc. As planned, I worked on painting the ceiling in our bedroom. DH called yesterday and ask me to do the trim only, as he'd go over it again today after that had dried. After my "nap", everything was put off. I started in on painting after 10 pm and went to bed after 11. I was tired and couldn't will myself to do any Yoga.

I made up for it this morning. I peeled my butt outta bed at 5:40 am and headed to the gym.

I did 30 minutes of the E-Beast mostly on level 10, until the machine told me my heart rate was too high. I lowered it to level 5 for a bit and then back up to level 7 or 8. I ended up with a max heart rate of 176 and an average rate of 156. I didn't feel like I was winded or tired, but I'm assuming it is not good to be in that high of a zone? Anyone have any thoughts or knowledge? I don't want to hinder my workouts because I'm unintentionally pushing myself too hard. (Yeah, and I'm also one of those weird people that doesn't sweat a whole lot while I'm working out, but once I get off the machine, it starts pouring!)

Oh, and I did ALL of the arm weight machines today. I did 3 sets of 10 reps for each machine, except the butterly chest machine. I only did 2 sets. For some reason, it felt a little odd today and I just couldn't get my alignment right. Better to not do it than to hurt myself. I also did a nice ab and oblique session. Total workout was 60 minutes.

Tonight is Water Babies (and a hot soak in the jacuzzi ).

Wanda - thank you for stopping by! And, yes, I know if I would've stayed away from my "treats" this weekend, I probably would've been a little happier with my weigh in. However, I'm not in a big hurry with weight loss. I noticed that I maintain a lot better this way. So, since I'm going to be diligent this week with food and exercise, and will be planning well for this upcoming drill weekend, I will hope to see results next Monday. And if not, I'll keep at it and it will eventually come. My next mini goal is 149. I haven't been 149 since before I had DS. (I started at 143 lbs w/ him) Anyway, I'm happy to see you keep trying the E-Beast! :P It should get a little easier every time for you. It's nice for variety. I've learned that you have to mix it up a little or your body becomes too acclamated to a workout and it's not as effective.

With that, I gotta get going. Have a wonderful day all my fellow Beach Bums!

It depends on your goals to be perfectly honest, purely weight loss your heart rate should probably be around 135-140 on average, cardiovascular training is 145-160 but it really should never go higher and you have a much higher consumption of muscle then fat when you do high intensity then that unless you want to do HIIT which is High Intensity Interval Training. Basically you "walk" for 2 minutes, then you hit it hard as you can for 1 minute, walk for 2, fast as you can for 1 ect but the workout only has to last about 20 minutes supposedly when you do it that way. Personally i keep my heart rate anywhere from 135-145. Originally i was doing 165-175 on average and realized even though i lost a lot of weight and fast, i was shedding lots of muscle too. Probably got a bit long winded but those are your options for the most part =)

Hi Jeff - thank you for the input. After I posted that this morning, it was still on my mind and I remembered you going through a similar situation a while back.

I am happy to have some weight loss, but I primarily focus on cardio, as you've probably seen my post in my journal, I have a family history of heart disease and want to keep my heart as healthy as possible.

Also, my PRT is coming up next month for the Navy and I wanna KICK A$$ on the run a.k.a. attempt to hit my bootcamp (best) time of 13:20.

With that being said, I figure a decent cardio heart rate (150 +/- a few) is the best route on a goal for me right now.

It looks like I need to turn my resistance a little lower and pedal a little faster! :P

Hey Beth,
You are turning into super athlete! I am in awe of you!!!!! I think your goal of keeping your blood tests good i a great one. That's worth working for and is not pure vanity.
I am always trying to get motivated for just a little dreadmill, but am watching the food, so things are moving, slowly but slowly ;-)
I am doing an early P2, P1 plus fruit, w an occasional starch out of the home if I can't resist, but not too often. I guess this is the magic formula for me where I am at now...little food, move as much as I can get myself to and only occasional indulgences.

Hugs and have a great day! I am sure your trim and DH's paint job look great! I personally always enjoyed painting...done it a few times, found it a nice immediate grat bec it's so visible!!!!!

Enjoy the jacuzzi, soak out the tiredness!!!!

xoxo

Hey Beth!

Thank you for stopping by my journal and welcoming me to the beach. I just finished reading yours and I have to say wow! You are phenomenal! I feel accomplished when I peel my buns out of bed in time to have a quiet cup of coffee before dragging my oldest DD out of hers for school.

How did that painting go? As we work on refinishing our own home I know how good it feels to complete an area and how completely changed a room can become. Have a great day on the beach!
