rhales199's journal...

Postby rhales199 » Tue Oct 24, 2006 2:17 am

In case anyone is curious, yes the 199 has a meaning. When i was in college and got above 200, it became my goal weight. no matter what i did, I could never reach it. It also happens to work well as an online name, so that's what i've been using it for since then. I had forgotten its original meaning until I started thinking about what my SB goal weight would be. I don't know exactly what my goal (or ideal) weight will be. I'm telling my mind to think it's somewhere between 182- 199. But if my body feels good at a slightly higher weight, that's fine. I looked up what my weight should be for an 'ideal' BMI, and the highest was 182. but i know how unrealistic those can be for some people.
I mean, i think it said that the low average for a person six foot tall was 135. I think that i'll look like a skeleton if i go any below 182, let alone 135!

this is my first day writing in my 'journal'. i'm on week 2 day 3 of phase 1. I won't post what i eat today, nor will i every day, but i will often. Just so i can be aware of where i'm at. I don't know what my weight is, i think it's around 250. I'll be getting weighed tomorrow when i go get my blood test done (i'm hypothyroid).
i also plan on writing in here thoughts and things that motivate me, as well as what motivated me to start this journey in the first place. One that i will write right now is, to 'kinda'quote NFB (national federation of the blind) philosophy, "I know who I am and I will never go back!!"
Let me also share my goals
Goals:

Exercise and eat right every day so I can-
short term- to be able to fit better into my costume for Halloween!!
Be a lot skinnier during the holidays. And surprise the helk out of friends/ family!
Long term- keep this up for as long as it takes (including during the holidays) until I have lost what I need to loose, and I can fit into all my jeans again (I have a whole bin full that are too small for me right now) and I can wear my wedding ring again!

After that, to maintain!!! and to run as many races and to do as many activities as I want!!!!

Funny things (well, as in abnormal- but are becoming normal) i'd like to share about the last week: haven't used the toaster in a week(was using it at least once daily). haven't had any bread in a week (used to have bread at least twice a day). Haven't touched butter in a week (i used to use at least a cube a week). Haven't touched the halloween candy. That bag of cinamon red devils I had to buy for my hubby last week is still half full (normally it would be gone). Same for the bag of chocolates he gave me. That case of live wire (orange flavored mtn dew) hasn't been touched, and it's taking a lot longer to go through the case of code red (cherry flavor mtn dew)--it's my hubby's fav, so he's been drinking it. Haven't had any hamburgers, french fries, soda, shakes, or ice cream. Only went to a fast food place once (being almost broke helped a lot with that one, though), and that was to get a burger and drink for hubby! I've bought a lot more veggies, canned beans, and string cheese than i used to! It's amazing how much of those three things you can get for 25 $!!
I don't know if i've lost any weight but i think so, because i have cut back soooo much on sugar.
Becky

Good to see that you started a journal Becky!

It does help to get your thoughts and motivations down somewhere. I like it because I can go back and see what happened when and that others can come and help you through any trials or problems you have that you rather not post in the other areas here!

Keep up the great attitude!

oct 24- took Tygh (DH) to herbalist to get him some herbs to help with his energy/ coughing problems. Herbalist gave him bee pollen, which seems to be working. I hope it works so Tygh will be able to go back to work in a week. Also, made sugar cookies this AM for our church halloween activity. I signed up to do the sugar cookies because i have no money with which to buy any of the other stuff (pumpkins, icing). I knew i had all the ingredients for sugar cookies, so i knew i could do them. I also don't like sugar cookies, so i figured they wouldn't tempt me. Well, they did. (the smell is what did it) but i resisted the temptation. I bagged them up and put them all in the freezer, so I won't see them.
This afternoon i took noel and shelly, friends of ours who are blind, to a grocery store that i'd never been in before! so we ALL had fun wandering the store trying to find stuff (thank goodness it wasn't that big of a store!!). Tygh came with us, but stayed out in the car and listened to his Harry Potter book 6 tape (again).
Oh yes, Walgreen's called and said my perscription was ready. What?!?!?! my perscrition is ready??? So i called them back, and my dr. had approved for them to go ahead and fill it for this month. I just need to go see the dr in a few weeks (for eval again) and get another blood test before i can get another refill. SO, I evaded VAMPIRA the blood taker this month!!!!
But that also means that i didn't get weighed, and will have to wait until next month to get weighed unless i find someone who has a scale. SO, i decided to do measurements until then. As soon as i do them, i will post them on here. SO then i can see how i am improving inches wise!
I did pretty good on my eating. I need to drink more water and excercise more, though.

Becky, Thanks for visiting my journal! My husband and I are both originally from Salt Lake. My husband grew up in Sandy between Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons, and I grew up in Sandy too, but more towards Draper. Where did you live? So we are used to the winters that we will have here in Pokey, but haven't had for the last 9 years being in St. George. Hopefully, we can re-acclimate ourselves.

How are you doing on P1? You are almost done! Then P2 feels so easy because of all the added choices you will have. Good luck! Keep in touch!

Hi Becky!

I just wanted to welcome you to SB... It is nice to have another tall girl around :D I am 5'11" and currently weight 232ish (I started SB around 255) I have been up and down a bit since I started, but feel like I have developed some really good habits... a lot of the things you mentioned: less sugar, less bad carbs, and now a lot more whole wheat items. I am still working on portion control and need to add exercise into my regime... but I am getting there.

Anyway... welcome and keep up the good work!

oct 25, 06- I had a client this morning who has a scale, so i got on it. i knew i was being liberal by thinking i was around 250 lbs. Really, i thought i was around 260. well, the scale said 286 or thereabouts! but i will find out for sure when i go to the dr next month. or when i get copies of my meds record, if they wrote my weight on them. that and my hubby being on the computer all afternoon frustrated me, so now i'm kinda bummed out, but i'll make it. finding out i weigh that much is just more fuel for the fire to get me to change.
I did get a bit of excercise, and drank more water todya, but i feel like i need more of both. for part of my exercise, i smashed aluminum cans for about 20 minutes (to get them ready to take to be recycled!).
Something that i just came up with is that everytime after i excercise, i get a hug from my hunny (tygh). I love his hugs, so that's another incentive for me to exercise! I found a recipie that uses beef (chunks or ground), you cook it up and stir fry veggies with it and a little bit of soy sauce. Well, we've had it about 5 times in the last week. Hubby loves it!! Tonight i made mine with chicken, and oh, man, it was good, too!
I am putting this on paper to commit myself to it: get up at 7 every morning (except sunday, and possibly saturday) to either go for a walk or do aerobics. And of course, i will continue to exercise throughout the day. ain't no way i'm staying 286!!!
will try to get my measurements, as well as my menu and post them tomorrow!

Good job on the creative smashing cans exercise. One day I spent an hour breaking down huge cardboard boxes (granted it was 4 months after our move) and loading them into my van and then unloading them at the recycling center. I had already worked out that day, but I was sore the day after from the functional movements I did with the boxes. It's amazing what our bodies will take as exercise, especially if you're not used to it.

Speaking of which, you should check out the November "New You" Challenge in the Exercise Forum. See if it's something you would be interested in. I signed up for the October challenge and it has really given me an incentive to exercise daily as you are accountable to a team mate. Plus it's kind of fun! We could request to be team mates if you want.

p.s. check out your local thrift store/Deseret Industries for a scale. I picked one up for $3.

hey there!

just think about those extra pounds as more motivation!!! turn a negative into a positive. i think that is what loosing weight is ultimately all about, along with so many other things in life.

hope you have a great evening!

Hello everyone!! My two good things today were theat i took a 30 minute walk, and... I was putting together some halloween cand treats to give to my neighbors, and I didn't have any!!!
here's my menu for today, as best as i can remember:
B: two eggs w/ pepper; glass of milk
s: part of a green pepper.
l:cottage cheese, veggies i think, glass of milk
s: string cheese, 1 carrot stick ( i forgot it's not allowed on ph1), celery w/ pb
d: chicken rubbed w/ cumin w/ salsa and pinto beans, Glass of milk. Also had another glass each of milk and water somewhere along the way, I think, and i'll probably drink another glass. I feel thirsty.
I see what everyone means about beans filling you up- those beans sure did it for me! I didn't quite have my bowl full of stuff, and I wondered if just what i had would fill me up, which it did. Good, because i had exta beans, so i can have them tomorrow.
FOr desert, i'll probably have a peanut butter cup or two.
Just one more day, then it's ph2 for me!!
every month sb online does a challenge, which i am joining for next month. will write more of what it entails as i learn it myself. one thing, you have to weigh yourself every day for four days (to establish a starting weight). After i found that out, i started thinking. The thought came to me that sister cox might have a scale, so i called her, and, yeah, she's letting me borrow it for the weekend (for the challenge, which starts monday). Will also look at thrift stores tomorrow for one.
Returned movies, worked on food stamps application. Called Dr and left message to get her to write a note to go along with application. Dr never called back. So we'll just have to keep calling and bugging the receptionist. I HOPE she isn't not giving the Dr the message just because 'she doesn't think i need to stay home and take care of my husband, and that's why i can't work'. What does she (the receptionist) know. she's only seen my hubby a few times. I've lived with him for eight years, and I am his sole driver!! Just a few weeks ago, i had to take him to the dr (which is 6 miles one way), five times- Tell me. how the *%#@ am i supposed to be able to do things like that and work full time!?! (which is why we're applying for food stamps, because when we get the Dr.'s note that says i need to stay home to help tygh, we will qualify for food stamps).
IF the receptionist (or anyone else for that matter)thinks i should be able to work full time and Help Tygh, i'll be happy to let them walk in my shoes for a month, and then see what they think!!
I also went and got my perscription today :P
[for anyone else reading this, i also use this as my regular journal, that's why there's so much that's not sb related. sorry for the little rant in today's journal.FYI, my husband is disabled (Cerebral Palsy), and has had a chronic cough since Labor day, hence why he's gone to the dr so much since then.]

I could have sworn I posted this in your journal, but when I double checked it was in mine. I didn't know how regularly you'd look at mine so here it is again.

As for DI, good idea... now the question is wether or not they have one THAT WORKS. I'll have to look tomorrow.

Yeah, you run that risk when you shop there. My dh is the best DI shopper around. He has the patience to sift through things to find treasures. But he also can't leave without a stack of books (he's an English Lit. major).

Visiting Teachers are great. I had my ladies over for lunch today and served a great SB lunch (unbeknownst to them) of chicken salad and veggies and dip. Of course I had to offer croissants along with the ww pitas, (guess who was the only one who ate a pita?) But, my VTs played devil's advocate (also unbeknownst to them) and brought me a bag full of the best Halloween candy bars (Butterfinger, $100 Grands, 3 Musk., Milky Way you get the picture). They went straight into the freezer! I had already had a small piece of cake and couldn't afford any more treats.

Good luck this week! I was excited to see you signed up for the challenge! You will love it! I haven't exercised this much in years! It feels so good!

Becky,

i am sorry to hear about your DH. our uncle has severe brain damage from a car accident. he is paralyzed, cannot speak and eats baby food. our aunt is his care giver.

being a care giver IS a FULL-TIME job! don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

anyway, off my soap-box. sounds like today was a good day overall! have fun with the challenge. i would do it, but after next weekend, we won't have internet until the house is finished. :( :( :(

Howdy partner! Ready to do this?? I chose you as my partner because you seem as motivated to get this weight off and get healthy as I am! I think we can kick their butts! :-) What are you planning to do for exercise every day? My 2 mile walk takes about 45min-1hr, but I'm pushing a big stroller with a 25 lb. kid in it, so that's why it takes so long. You should aim for a 15 minute mile. (That, and I take small steps. haha) Today went pretty well, I didn't get to go for a walk because my son got really sick...but I did go to a place with a lot of large inflatable play equipment, and jumped around in there for a while, plus I did weights for my arms and used my bun and thigh master on my legs, so I guess that accounts for something, right? I was 100% SB friendly today too, I really don't have a prob sticking with it, so that will be the easy part I think. The challenge officially starts on Monday, right? Let's show these people how it's DONE! :-) Good luck!

today was nice except for about 15 minutes this morning. Got up, ready, dressed, finished halloween stuff, and was getting ready to head out the door to go to work when (and of course, things always start ot happen when you're on your way out the door to work): 1:Tygh's dr 's office (well, dr mallory's nurse, this time) called and wanted to know why it was that all of a sudden i wanted a note from Dr mallory saying that i needed to stay home to help Tygh, and therefore couldn't work (so we would qualify for food stamps). Tygh had a brainfreeze and had to come and ask me. I told him to tell her because there's no way i can work full time and take him to the Dr as often as i've had to lately. She told him, well can she work part time then?
Yes, i can... and am. But i'm only working 2 hours a week. Health and welfare will take one look at that and say she needs to be working more hours than that. Well, my work doesn't have any more hours for me right now, and i'm busy dealing with other things (like health and welfare, and doctors!!). The nurse couldn't really see or understand why we would need this note and said she coudn't figure out a way to explain it to dr. mallory, so she set up an appointment for us to come see the dr Monday afternoon for us to explain it all to her. SO we have to drive all the *%$#@#^$ way out to her office for the EIGTH time in two months, just to explain to her why i can't work full time. (READ it this way-- IF i WERE working full time, i would have to somehow manage to get off early to go pick my husband up and take him to the dr. just to tell her why it is that i shouldn't have to work full time!!!).
2) I went to unplug my cell phone from the charger (i had put it on it last night, and it wasn't charged!! (so i had to use another charger and charge it while I was at my clients' house). 3)as i was leaving, our appt manager came by and said 'you remember your lease papers you singed? i still need the pink ones back. (she let us have them by accident). so, now i have to look for them... At least i didn't have car problems or get in an accident (which almost happened, but it wouldn't have been my fault!)Work went well.
This afternoon was better. I had posted a request on our local freecycle website for a XLG ladies cost, and i got a response back from someone who has one and i will go pick it up tomorrow afternoon. Also, we got a letter saying how much we have left to pay on our loan (for a wheelchair lift (for our van) we bought a few years ago) we have 1,261 left to pay on it, so we should have it paid off in about a year!!
Oh yeah, after work i took my cans in - got 5.28$. looked at thrift stores for a scale. at goodwill, the were 6.00 (yeah, that place is pricey for a thrift store), at Savers they were 4.99, and at DI... a whole 2$ [THANK YOU MNMENGLISH, YOU WERE RIGHT ON ABOUT HOW MUCH THEY WOULD BE AT DI!!!]
Iwanted to go see Taladega nights, which is finally at the cheap theaters, but all the stress from this morning is making me not feel very good, so i'm just taking it easy tonight.
Enjoyed my nice 30 minute walk... it was a nice sunny autumn day, here.
I got on the scale this evening...it said about 289.
I get to start ph 2 tomorrow.

Had a pretty good day! I only walked for about ten minutes, but i usually don't do much more exercise than that on sundays.
MY right foot hurt bad this morning, then it seemed to get better, but has still hurt throughout the day, and i have no idea why.
B: 2 mock pancakes (made w/ part skim ricotta cheese) w/ a little lite syrup, 1 egg, 1/4 of a lg choc. muffin, water.
breakfast was late, so didn't need a snack
L: about a cup of veggies, med-small tomato w/ cottage cheese, water.
No afternoon snack because i was at church
D: homemade chili (beans, hamburger, onion, seasonings), piece of wheat bread w/ margarine.
The chili filled me up, so i won't have dessert.
we had eight kids in our three year old class at church. Sis mortensen came in to class with us, so there were four adults, which made it nice. her husband went home sick. Went and picked up my 'new' coat "new to me" that is!! It fits me really well, exept around the hips. i have to lift it up to my waist to get the zipper going, I'll have to work on that waist issue.
my weight was 289 again this morning.
Exercise plans for this week:
M: walk - COMPLETED!!!
T: walk/ crunches, lunges, arm weights-COMPLETED!
W:walk/ -COMPLETED
th: walk/ crunches, lunges, arm weights- COMPLETED!
f: walk/ crunches, lunges, arm weights-INJURED
s: walk/ hooked on areobics- INJURED
sun:off
Beachy days: 6/7
this is just basic and off my memory. if i find out i need to add more or change something, i will.
