It's a known fact that you won't lose weight if you don't get enough sleep. Something about stress and cortisol - just read it somewhere yesterday. So there's your excuse

Seriously, sometimes you just have to do your best and deal with whatever is on your plate (no pun intended  ). You're probably eating a lot better than your pre-SB days, so just hang in there, eat your veggies, and try and keep your energy up. Before you know it, classes will be over and you'll be able to return to your previous hectic schedule!

Ah-HA! That's definitely true. I have not been sleeping enough. Even when I can sleep in, it's too warm upstairs. We are getting into that humiserable part of summer that Bethy spoke of earlier.

You're right, though. I was doing pretty great before classes started, and I am definitely eating better than before SB, way more fruits and vegetables, and way less sugar and starchy carbs. Alcohol is remains my problem. My husband doesn't like red wine, so if I only drink the SB portion every day, it will go off before I can drink it all. That's what kept happening. So then I switched to white wine, which leads straight to the devils work (beer) just like marijuana leads to heroin.

Just buy those little bottles that come in 4 packs, or those ones that come in the vacuum sealed packets - they stay fresh longer, lol! When it's hot out I switch to white wine or beer myself because I want something chilled.

The sun has been rising before 5 here, and the damn birds are up and twittipated at 4! I keep the fan on just to drown them out. But I'm liking the 15 1/2 hours of daylight!! As long as I have my afternoon nap, I'm OK :D

That's a True Fact about the white wine. I have a bottle of Gavi, which I LOVE, under the counter. It's been there for over a month and I keep looking at it and wishing I hadn't bought it and wanting it but I know it will lead me down a path. I might go put it in the refrigerator right now. It IS hot weather and it's the weekend.

10 weeks of classes (chemistry and physics) + full time work=done. And I got A's in both, I'll have you all know!

My diet, however, well lets just say the dust has settled, and I can't even see the wagon anymore. I made it a little more than half way through before completely giving up, but the last month or so has been a full on disaster, culminating in a brunch that gave me the worst indigestion I've had since gyro incident of 1998. Time to saddle up again. The good news is that I feel so energized by having accomplished such a monumental task, I feel like I can do anything!

SO, here we go again. I did not weight myself this morning. I haven't since I started slipping. Not ready to face it yet. Maybe in a couple of days. Or a week.

Welcome back.

There is plenty of room here on the Sinner's Pew right beside me. Services are about to begin.

Go out, buy some veg, toss out the nutella filled tarts and buckle down!

Thanks, Mike. Pass me a hymnal.

This is weird. I had noticed that after I started this diet, I would find myself waking up in the middle of the night with my mouth open, and breathing through my mouth, something that rarely happened before. That stopped when I relapsed. I wonder what that's about. It's really gross. My mouth would feel really dry like i had been eating blotter paper. Anyone else?

Every time I sleep with my mouth open my wife stuffs a pillow in it to stop the racket. Then she covers my nose until my struggling nearly ceases. Such a jokester!

I just use the old elbow to the ribs. ;)

All this fretting about the last month for wild abandon, and after 3 days back on SB (not even the strictest observation), and a bit of water loss, I am about a pound heavier than the last time I recorded my weight here. Go figure. Well, call me encouraged.

Coming to you live from the west coast, and 10 lbs heavier than the last time I was here. Back on the wagon for one week today. Lord, lord.

Teensy...nice to see you here. I'm going to go back and read your journal.

I'm here for the 2nd time...1st time in 2004. I have a long way to go, but like all of us, I'm working, slowly, but surely towards my goal weight.

If you'd like, I'll stop by and offer encouragement. I can even be your personal cheerleader. 8)

Hi, Kristy! Thanks for stopping in. I could use some encouragement. I'm bummed that I gained so much weight back so quickly. I cannot stand myself right now. To top it all off, I'm in a new city, interviewing for jobs, getting nowhere, it's way more competitive than I had anticipated, and I'm feeling really insecure. GAH! Enough self-pity.

So...have you moved from Baldymore (as Bethy says) to Oregon? That's quite a jaunt! I work in the dental field, so I understand how the healthcare field can be so demanding.

Hope to hear from you soon!

I need to hit the grocery store today. One thing that has been troubling me since I moved to Portland is the lack of decent dairy. There is no cottage cheese that doesn't have those emulsifiers (gums and whatnot). I'm not that worried about the actual additives, but I don't like the texture. It's too sticky. In the Mid-Atlantic we had Friendship Dairies from upstate New York. Here they pretty much only have the national brands, and the normal health food brands, and they all either have the emulsifiers, or they're Nancy's which have yogurt cultures (so gross gross gross and wrong and why would you ruin the taste of cottage cheese like that??). So I've decided to make my own cottage cheese, using a recipe I found on the internet.

A little analogy about Nancy's, for those of you who like logic. Nancy's cultured cottage cheese:normal, natural cottage cheese=hot yoga:yoga. I refer to activities like hot yoga as suffercizing, because they take a healthy, enjoyable activity and make it unnecessarily miserable, with no additional health benefit (and some additional risk!). Same with the cottage cheese. Okay, there's not additional risk from the yogurt cultures, but there is definitely added misery! I take my cottage cheese seriously, y'all.

Welcome! Gosh I didnt know shopping in a differnt part of the country could be so drastic! I used to the North/South differences, that typically only goes as far as, what I can get there I cant get here, and vice versa. Let us know how the recipe works out.
