Malted Milk Ball eggs???? Lord help you. I think the candy coating is a slight turn off, but I know there's whoppers underneath there and I never turned down a hot date for bad wardrobe. Can you, like, leave town? I've been successfully steering wide of the Maltesers at the store, but yesterday I needed some Indian spice and they put the UK right beside India. Colonialists!

Maltesers, yum. THAT was a near miss, eh? I mean, a Cadbury Crunchy or Flake would about put me over the edge. :-)

THAT is a great idea. I was considering firing in the morning oatmeal, but carrots would be a reall transition since it is still veggies and I can add them to salad again.

I too have looked at the P2 pantry, and you're right. It ain't the weapon, it's the wielder. I'll need to control my super(eating) powers so that they are used only for good instead of evil.

And no, fava beans would not have been my first choice.

 Did I win anything? Daytime emmy? Sound editing? Just a teeny one? I'll cut my hair and 90 seconds off my acceptance speech, honest.

I can't figure out how to insert a copied pic, so just imagine the huge trophy I tried to place here for you.

P1 Day 12

Postby SBMike » Thu Apr 05, 2012 3:21 pm

I spent my lunch hour yesterday reading a thread about Peatoophobia – the fear of transitioning to Phase Two. A lot of it hit home. I have mentioned earlier I think that I suffer from this condition. After reading the nine or so pages of folks laying out all the reasons why staying in P1 is not the greatest idea, I have decided….. to put off the decision. Sunday was to be transition day to P2. But Sunday is also a big dinner thing at our house. Put another way, it is likely to be a cheat day. Not terribly – I am not going to dig into the potato salad or hot cross buns in my usual sensual frenzy over carbs (you ought to see how bad I am around mashed potatoes) but being honest with myself I just don’t know how the day will go. So I will evaluate things on Monday or Tuesday, after returning for a day or two of extended P1, to see how I feel about things. Bethy, get the wine glasses out, I am gonna be there before you know it! A nice pinot noir would be a good first choice.

But that is in the future. Today, I am down the pound from yesterday PLUS another .4, bringing total P1 weight loss to date to 6.4 pounds.

I continue to enjoy AWESOME blood sugar values. I keep harping on this in case I myself ever need to remind myself of the benefits of this WOE. (Don’t hate my struggles with the lows – hate my previous struggles with the HIGHS! This is a much preferred problem!)

Wyfe tried something new and different for dinner last night. She browned some onions in butter, the added spinach to wilt, then placed it in big pyrex dishes, topped with two raw eggs, and placed in the oven until they baked up. Delish! I also had a little bacon, not SBD but a good compliment, and some homemade broccoli soup. A great meal! She accompanied hers with corn muffins and a side salad with Marie’s Bleu Cheese dressing. I skipped all of this.

Breakfast today was light n the veggies. As in practically nonexistent. Three grape tomatoes do not a serving make. With that I had a HB egg. A glass of Silk PureAlmond milk, and a cup of coffee. I know, I need to plan better. Breakfast veggies are gag-o-mongous to me unless they are in an omelette or smoothie or something. That is a goal I need to set going forward.

Have an amazing day. Treasure it like the last day of summer vacation.

Ain't no nice pinot here, you'll have to drink the goats like I do. It's the house wine and it's cheap and goes down easy like the sommeliess.
I think we have mind-meld, I read the transition thread for the second time the night before you bumped it, went back to find it for you and you had done done it.
And I bought massive Sam's club spinach yesterday thinking eggs florentine beachish. Tell your faire wyfe, thanks for the instructions.

And tell her I have a Classified blue cheese dressing recipe from a Louisville restaurant that isn't there anymore but people still talk about the dressing. It blows Marie's out of the water (and I'd been a Marie loyalist since I was 16). It also shuts down your arteries and I'll give it to her the next time you're out of town if she wants it. It calls for Amish blue cheese (Salemville, blue package, grocery store deli-area) which might not be all around Virginia.

I say Good Plan on the waiting and seeing. You're doing major research and you'll know when the time's right. It's all about tiny experiments, one at a time. I'm thinking about one of those STUDENT DRIVER signs for my grocery cart. Might stop the yankees (mets and phillies) from running over me while I'm pondering the produce. I thought fruit was the Last thing I wanted and now I'm tickled about strawberries. They tasted way better than the sweet potato, something's WRONG with me.

hey MIKEY, you're still here and interested and Me, Mishi and Mireya are, too! How cool is that? 8) I hope we're going to stay together for a long time, just as long as we can. (okay, now I'm quoting Regarding Henry, I'm outta here, bye!)

Hello Mike how is it going? My names Jeff and im an eataholic. Now that the introductions are over, it's good to meet you and transitioning to phase 2 can be a very large mental challenge, especially when it comes to the fact that you might overdo it, or your weight loss will stall, which it sometimes will. I transition to phase 2 very slowly. For example when i just started after the 2 weeks i would add one fruit a day for two weeks instead of one, then 1 starch for 2 weeks, then 1 more fruit. Honestly when im doing south beach even on phase 2 i tend to stay at 2 fruits and 1 starch per day, which is generally around lunch time as it provides the most energy for my workouts.

Have you ever tried turkey bacon? I like it a lot and you're allowed 2-3 slices a day. I actually find tiny cheats like a little shredded carrot or something similar not to bad. Something i make called taco soup is a staple when i put myself in phase one, and there is two cans of niblet corn added in which is a phase 1 no-no. BUT i figure those 2 cans over 12 meals (giant crockpot full) is negligible, same as a little shredded carrot would be.

Okay, THIS may settle the whole Do I Stay In Phase One issue:

CUMBERLAND — The unusually warm weather will mean the early arrival of strawberries this season.

The Virginia Farm Bureau says the arrival of strawberries will be one holiday earlier this year. While Mother's Day traditionally marks the berry's debut, this year they'll be arriving soon after Easter.

Rob French says the strawberries he grows on nine acres in Cumberland County will be 3 1/2 weeks early. He says that's a good thing, but he's still wary of frost.

Virginia Beach grower Mike Cullipher recalls a 2007 Easter freeze that hurt some Virginia fruit growers. He says he's keeping his fingers crossed.

Or is my heartpounding excitement nearing the point of ecstasy in anticipation of rapturous gastronomic bliss the sign of a CRAVE? lol Gawd I love fresh local berries!

Ah, yes, Jeff (good to meet you at least, BTW) but you live in Florida, where strawberries ahve been ripe practically since Christmas! We poor folk get a brief 3 weeks for strawberries. Fortunately, that is followed nigh on by a crop of the best tomatoes in the country, usually starting in June.

Jeff, I have been reading your journal. I am just humbled and inspired by what you have accomplished. I wish when I was young (and 27ish is still young - I probably have underwear that is older) I had had the wisdom to get things together the way you have. Thanks for the example!

While i know others have had it worse, i have a tendency to look around at what's going on. My dad just had a quadruple bypass recently due to smoking and poor physical condition, diabetes runs in the family, heart problems runs in the family, high blood pressure. Just basically a laundry list of medical concerns that losing weight and becoming healthy allowed a much brighter outlook for. Of course im not going to say it was all for health, as i wanted to feel good in my skin too. Ive honestly been on an apple kick lately, golden delicious and granny smith but i love strawberries too.

Im very happy i can provide some sort of inspiration, nothing to be humbled about though. Just have to take it one day at a time and each day remind yourself that in the long run it will make life more enjoyable and make you yourself a happier person. Stay strong mike, it gets hard at times but the results are worth the challenge!

That's exciting news about those strawberries. The banana milkshakes came in early at Chick-fil-a up here. I watched a little golf yesterday, mostly to see if there were any azaleas left blooming and they're long gone already. If I don't eat ANY easter candy, may I have a jacket to go with my imaginary trophy? (and, btw, how Hard did you try?) I promise not to wear a tacky red shirt with it like Tiger. The man's a phenomon, I love him, but he must be color blind and he sure didn't think his Lucky Color options all the way through. I still have my "WWTD" bracelet though, wearing it Sunday. Every time I see it I wonder if they're selling ones now that say "WTHS(hould)TD?".

But what I wanted to ask you about Easter was: Will you please not eat the potato salad? For my sake? Eat everything else, I can deal. But potato salad's my FAVORITE. I'll wind up getting sent to my room if you get some and I don't.

As much as I love it, I will NOT touch the potato salad. Here's the menu so far:

Baked Ham, Apple and Peachwood Smoked Lamb w/ Minted Goat Cheese, Potato Salad - Gluten Free, Scalloped Carrots, an as-yet undesignated Green Vegetable, Fruit Salad, Green Salad. Deviled Eggs, Pickles/Olives, Mom's award winning oh my gosh delish Yeast Rolls,
Lemon Sponge Cake, Rainbow Cookies, Carrot Cake Bars, Gluten Free Brownies, Mom's Hot Cross Buns.

I think I can make a meal out of this that won't violate basic training. Besides, there are always the jelly beans.........
