Almost back to normal today! Took some Tylenol late-afternoon, but pain was much less than yesterday. Was able to go for a short (5-miles) trike ride this evening. Went to Aqua Zumba with Mrs. Geo. Best of all... ate a normal dinner... Tilapia, green beans, and 1/2 sweet potato. Yummmmy! Having a big dinner might affect my weight in the morning (Tomorrow is our regular weigh-in day), but it tasted so good that I don't care. Besides, it's pretty-much SBD-friendly.

Today is weigh-in day for us.

Mrs. Geo had no change in weight.

I lost 4 pounds... probably the result of having my jaw too sore to eat my normal SBD foods. I ate a LOT of soft foods, but obviously didn't get enough calories. 4# is too much for me to lose in one week. It will be interesting to see if I put some of it back on in the next week as I get back to normal eating.

Good point about the big weight loss. I'd suggest planning for a weight gain as you transition back to a more normal diet. Your body might prompt you to eat more to replenish some of the nutrients you were missing.

Thanks, magna. I appreciate your expertise in so many areas.

Things are finally getting back to normal for me! Haven't had ANY pain relievers today, so my jaw is definitely getting better. Got out for a 10-mile trike ride this morning, and last evening had one of my favorite meals... Grilled Chicken Breast, Green Beans, and 1/2 Sweet Potato. Yummmmm Yummmmm! Really enjoy eating like this.

I'm trying to wait until next summer before buying more shorts, but might not make it. Yesterday, I slipped on a pair of shorts that used to be VERY tight. Just as I got them on, Mrs. Geo called me, and I went to see her without putting on a belt. By the time I got into the other room, I was definitely "Busting a sag", and unless I held my shorts up while talking with her, they would fall to my ankles. What a difference 29 pounds makes! :D

I've been reading your blog and you through me off with your post on 4/10
You started at 200 pounds and on 4/10 you had lost 23 pounds in just 4 weeks. You went from 200 to 177

Your 4/24 post says you had lost 18 pounds in 6 weeks.
You probably printed the incorrect numbers on 4/10. I just don't think it's possible to loose 23 pounds in less than 4 weeks.

I really enjoyed reading your progress.
I won't get on a scale. I know that will just depress me and make me feel much worse than I already do now.
All I know is that I went from a size 33 waist a year ago to 40 waist.
I have no plans on getting back on the scale.

Sorry for the confusion, garygr. You are SO right... I didn't lose all that weight in that short a time. What happened was that as I updated my weight in the "Signature" portion, it changes the SBD signature on all my earlier posts. My original thought was to include a week-by-week list of my weight in my "Signature" block, but I quickly exceeded the maximum number of characters allowed in the Signature block. In retrospect, I should have typed my current weight in the body of the text so it wouldn't change.

Here is a list of my weight by week...

3/13 200
3/20 195
3/27 191
4/3 188
4/10 187
4/17 185
4/25 183 (Changed my weigh day to Tuesday so I could weigh on the same day as Mrs. Geo)
5/2 185 (Yeppers... I actually gained 2 pounds)
5/9 180
5/16 179
5/23 177
5/30 175
6/6 175
6/13 171

Hope that clarifies my weight loss.

Geo:

Makes total sense. It's really great that you were able to lose 30 pounds in 3 months. Have you tried other diets over the years, and were you successful in keeping the weight off for an extended period of time?
I've probably been on every diet out there over the years and even did the ten week program with Over Eaters Anonymous. I always lost the weight, but just not able to maintain it for very long.
2002 was my highest weight at 260
8 months later I was down to 150
Back then I went on my own diet called the Starvation Diet. I counted calories and stayed between 500-750 a day.
I can still remember getting so light headed when I got out of the car. I had to hold on to the roof of the car for a few minutes before I could move.
I felt like I was going to pass out every time I got up for a sitting position.

2013----2015 was the Vegan Diet. Lost about 50 pounds in a year and only gained back 10-15 over the next years.(Waist 33-34)
2016 to last week-----Gained a lot of weight (Waist 40) and have not got on the scale after I went off Vegan Diet

I did South Beach in 2007, lost all the weight I needed and went to Phase 3. Problem is after Phase 3 , I immediately went to Phase 4, 5, and 6 and
the rest is history. (LOL)

I had size 38--40 slacks that were never worn with the price tags still on purchased in 2013. I donated them all to Goodwill cause I really didn't think I would ever go back into those sizes.
In 2016 I had to purchase 38's and 40's again. This is the story of my life.
Sorry to vent like this---just feeling a little tired and disgusted right now.
Went to Wegmans to purchase Salmon for dinner. I had them cut 8 ounces for my wife and 3 1/2 ounces for me. I cooked it on the George Foreman Grill. My portion looked very very small next to hers. I'm still hungry. ok----that's it for me tonight. Shutting down the computer.

BTW, I've been binge watching a great series on National Geographic called Genius, the story of Albert Einstein when he was young.
Can't want to see the season finale on Tues. night.

Thanks for the info, garygr. Sounds like you've you've been through a lot, but take heart.. I'm convinced that the SBD is all we need to keep the weight off, and have long healthy lives! Wish I could tell you with certainty that P3 works, but these past few months are the only experience I have. The reason I'm confident that the SBD will work for me even without the experience, is that Dr. Agatston has been spot-on with his predictions on how the SBD would impact me. I lost the desire for foods that are empty calories during P1, and it hasn't returned.

I don't pay too much attention to the amount that I eat... I don't want to let myself get hungry... So I wouldn't fix a larger portion of food for my wife, while I felt deprived or hungry. The thing that has really surprised me is that if I have a snack between meals, I don't eat nearly as much at meals. My portion size now is pretty reasonable... Maybe even "small". During P1, I really missed my high carb, high fat foods, but I never let myself get hungry. That is probably what got me through that very-restrictive phase. When you get through P1, let's talk some more as you transition into P2.

There may be others reading this who strongly disagree with my suggestions. That's okay with me. I don't claim to do this exactly as indicated in the book, but what I'm doing has worked for me. So if others have suggestions, please join in our discussion.

I've tried 2 other diets. One was to record everything I ate. I was always hungry because I was still eating the same foods that made me hungry! Eventually, I just gave up on that.

I also tried Neutrasystem (SP?). Lost maybe 10 pounds, but was concerned about having to buy their food for the rest of my life. Tried weaning myself off their groceries, and onto meals I prepared. Instant failure! Gained everything back, and more!

One tip for avoiding feeling hungry or looking at your plate and feeling sad is to eat a LOT of vegetables. I now put a regular sized portion of meat on my plate and the rest is vegetables. They fell me up and they are also really good for you in so many ways. That's kind of the opposite of what I was used to growing up - I would have put mostly meat and maybe starches (rice, potatoes, etc.) on my plate, and then only a few vegetables.

Mrs. Geo and I are leaving in the morning for some special time together. Will be gone until Friday or Saturday. We don't anticipate any difficulties sticking to the SBD, since we've learned how to be successful in a variety of situations, and actually PREFER to eat this way!

Tomorrow is our regular weigh-in day. I'm not expecting to lose any weight since I lost too much (4 pounds) the previous week. Mrs. Geo didn't lose any weight that week, so I'm hoping that she loses some this week. But whether we gain or lose weight, we'll stick to the SBD because it is so healthy and we prefer eating this way.

Wishing all of you a great week.

Today is weigh-in day for us.
Mrs. Geo lost another pound, making it 19 pounds in 10 weeks
I gained a pound, making it 28 pounds in 14 weeks (Just as magna had predicted after losing 4 pounds the revious week).

All seems to be going well.

Really enjoyed our 1st night at the cabin. Lovely place (Beavers Bend Luxuary Cabins in Broken Bow, OK.) Found a nice grocery store that stocks most of the items that we normally eat, but different brands. Going to get a rotisserie chicken later today. Also got some 93/7 ground beef... Just enough for 2 patties. Will grill it on the deck. Those will be our first burgers in 3-months!
