Getting Dressed: A Weight Loss Journal

Postby SisM on Sun Nov 01, 2009 7:17 pm

Hello everyone! Tomorrow I begin my third attempt at SB. The first time I tried it, probably 4 or 5 years ago now, I lost 14 pounds in 3 weeks. The last time was 2 years ago and I lost 21 pounds in 4 weeks. This week I came to the realization that I needed to do something about my weight problem. I am bigger than I have ever been before, and obviously far more miserable. I just turned 27 and have nothing to show for it except girth. So I have decided to start the life change with a focus on my weight. And realizing that the only time I had lost weight in the past was with SB, this became my obvious choice.

I am working on my meal plan for the week right now, and will be headed off shopping this evening. I plan on cooking tonight and tomorrow morning and then pre-packaging and freezing meals since I have little to no time to cook.

Things will be different this time. Before I was not ready for a life change, now I am. I also did not have any interest in cooking, yet a few months ago was bitten by the bug and have now been cooking on a regular basis and actually enjoying it! This time I will do it!

The ironic thing is that for my dogs I am SO intent on their health that I have always made my own raw diet for them and am right on top of their weight. YET I haven't been able to do it for myself . . . until now. My dogs are my life. I need to add myself into that category.

My biggest problem in Phase 1 will be the sugar. I am a sugar addict and am allergic to fake sugars so this first phase may be painful. But I'm hoping with the recipes that I have already come across on this message board I will be able to overcome it. I called my journal "Getting Dressed" because for me that is the most stressful and depressing part of my day. And I hope that soon enough I will be like I was 7 years ago and will instead ENJOY picking out my outfits for work and for going out at night :)

I look forward to getting to know you all, and especially look forward to losing the weight FOR GOOD!!

Hi Sis!

Third time's a charm! Welcome to the board. I've got a few years on you but this dreaded problem knows no boundaries. I also was at my all time high when I started SB this time. I've been a binger for as long as I can remember and I haven't felt like binging over these past 6 weeks.

It's amazing how this interest in cooking just popped up. The stars are aligning! Sorry, child of the 60's you know. You say you are allergic to fake sugars? Are you also allergic to sweeteners like agave nectar (real but low GI)? Might be an option.

Good luck to you!
It's all good!

I actually adore agave. I also am going to find some stevia and try that. The good thing about my newfound problem (this just popped up earlier this year) is that I can no longer drink soda so I already gave that up!

Hey welcome to the beach! First of all I want to tell you how glad I am that you are here, I too know how hard it is to get dressed in the morning and feel awful. If you start the day with feelings like that it brings everything else down too. I have heard people say that if you lose weight it will not make all of your problems disappear, well maybe that is true, but I think it will help the mental mind set and THAT will make everything better :) You and I have a lot in common, we both have tried the beach before and gained the weight back, I am 25, you are 27, it seems that our dogs are our children :) (I have two pugs, what do you have?), and we are both finally ready for an actual change! I think we should be weight loss buddies! Okay, now for the serious question, can you tell me how to make food for my dogs? My little guy has had stomach issues since we first got him, he has had every test know to man and has consumed more pills than any little doggie should ever have to. The vet has now decided he has a food allergy. I have been experimenting and I think it is either wheat, preservatives, or something weird that is in regular dog food. So I have decided I want to make him food myself. I know this is a South Beach forum, but hey I had to ask :) Again, welcome and I look forward to reading about your progress.

Heather

Thank you for the warm welcomes! I'm on day 2 now. Cravings are NASTY (especially for alcohol after a stressful day at work . . . ugh) but I'm working through it. Yesterday I definitely ate too much protein as I packed my food for work very poorly and ended up working a late night so by the time I got home I basically had time for some eggs and then bed. NOT good. Today went better as I remembered to throw some steak and veggies in the crockpot and now am enjoying a lovely dinner :)

Heather I would love to be your weight loss buddy! It always helps when you have someone to go the road with you know ;) I have three Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs, so a little bigger than your pugs HAHAHA! And I am more than happy to help you find a way to feed your little guys so that it doesn't affect their stomach. I have a background in canine and feline nutrition and used to work in a holistic pet food store and saw many a dog with food allergies so we can definitely try some stuff out. I personally feed a raw diet to my dogs. But I'll PM you about all the doggy stuff so we don't clog the SB forum. LOL!

Stick in there! I am into week two and I think the worst of the cravings have passed, so it does get better :) I have to admit thought that a glass of wine would be nice :) I try to tell myself that it is not worth it, but dang it is hard. Have a good night and good luck!

Well the past couple of days cravings were horrific. I actually found myself in Cumbie's staring at the racks of candy in the candy aisle, but I stayed strong and grabbed a water instead. Drinking my decaff green tea really has helped my cravings for nearly everything, and learning to drink it without sugar hasn't been so bad. I had to skip my snack today as my dogs got into my lunch before I left for work. Grrrr! So I just split up my lunch into lunch and snack and hopefully that'll suffice.

Oh, BTW, today I feel GREAT! My cravings aren't so nasty today and I physically just feel fantastic. I got a good night's sleep and I have energy and motivation and I just feel fabulous. I don't know if I lost weight or not (I weigh in on Monday), but just feeling good is making me smile :)

So I'm still going strong!!

SisM, great job staying strong! Reaching for water instead of having candy...amazing! :) I will have to steal your green tea trick, especially at night when I am having some late night munchies. Those darn dogs...you have to love them though  I am so excited that you feel great, I love this line "just feeling good is making me smile" that is just wonderful SisM. Keep up the good work. I am excited about your weigh in on Monday.

Okay I just tried Turkey Bacon for the first time this morning and OMG is it NASTY! Flavorless cardboard, literally. I had to throw it away. I love turkey, I love bacon, how could a combination of the two go so wrong?!

I threw mine away, too! Definitely NOT an acceptable alternative to the real thing. I was glad to hear I am in good company on the getting dressed in the morning problem. Somehow, I always think I'm going to come up with some outfit that makes me look like a size 6! Plus, I've hung on to my clothes that have been too tight for years, even though I'm pretty sure I don't want to wear them again even if (I mean when :!: ) I fit into them! Well, by spring things will be different, right?

YES! My entire closet is filled with clothes that are way too small, AND way too outdated to ever wear again but I still can't let them go!

And I think if someone could invent clothes that make a size 18 look like a size 6 they'd be a millionaire. LOL!

Thoughts after week 1:
This week really wasn't too bad. I found myself at a loss for food a couple of times, because I planned poorly. Something definitely to work on for this week. The cravings were bad for a few days, but I found that every time I craved something if I made myself some decaf green tea it helped a lot. I do need to up my water intake as I was only drinking maybe 3 bottles a day (well and a gazillion cups of green tea LOL!). But all in all pretty successful. Week 2 here we come!!

Weigh-in:
I stepped on the scale this morning hoping to have lost 5 pounds this past week. I knew it was a tall order but I knew seeing that 5 pounds on the scale would be a huge motivator for me to continue. So I stepped on the scale, looked at the weight and stepped off. I re-calibrated it, and stepped on again. Same number. Stepped off. I called my mother and asked her if I could use her scale, something was obviously wrong with mine. I went up there, stepped on her scale, stepped off. Re-calibrated it. Stepped on again. Same number.

I lost 15 pounds!!!!!!!!!!

I guess that just goes to show how unhealthy my diet really was!
