New in "town"

Postby Trina224 » Thu Dec 23, 2010 6:40 pm

Hi everyone! I'm signing in for the first time to the forum. I don't plan to start Phase 1 100% until after the holidays but I will be trying some of the recipes, etc. until then. My biggest concern will be getting around the regular menu for other family members.

Welcome! It will probably be pretty quiet around here until the new year anyway! Really, there is nothing particularly "diet-y" about the food you eat. You can add starches to otherwise SB friendly meals for the rest of the family without having to make special meals for them and you. It's just healthy eating, so the small changes you might need to make for most recipes are really not that big a deal and better for everyone. It really doesn't make that much sense in the larger scheme of things to eat foods that support your health while you create meals for the rest of the family that damage theirs!

Ditto. The only thing I did before switching to the SB WOE was to get my family to agree TRY to eat dinner my way, other meals they could eat as they pleased. They were "willing" in the beginning and enthusiastic now. We have a whole new way of preparing foods that is much tastier and in many cases easier to prepare. I did buy the Super Quick cook book as well as the Quick & Easy ... the yellow one (Q&E?) is our family favorite and most of our meals come from that now. We also plan the week's menu together so that we all get a chance to choose, understanding that even though someone may pick an item that goes in the "never again" category we'll all try it once. ;)

You may also find there are ways of making the old tried & trues that are much better following SB, for example warm artichoke dip. We've always made artichoke dip with tons of parmesan cheese, mayonaise etc and while it tasted good, there was always a layer of fat on it. We now make it with LF cream cheese and olive oil mayo (lesser amount than the old recipe) and offered it up at the "Family Christmas" ... there was a single person out of over 20 who preferred the traditional recipe.
