box wines

Postby proudmamato4 » Sun Oct 24, 2004 7:47 pm

These are actually very good. My favorites are Banrock Station (from Australia) and Black Box Wines. The Cabernets are extremely good from both brands. The box wines have been used in Australia and Europe for many years, and are finally catching on in the U.S. (THESE ARE NOT LIKE ALMEDAN OR OTHER "CHEAP" WINES). The boxes contain the equivalent of 3 liters, and keep fresh up to a month...perfect if you're going to enjoy a glass or two every night. I can't wait until Phase 1 is over for me so I can have some!

recipelover wrote:If you don't like merlot, why not try a Shiraz or a Syrah wine for the red wine. We found a brand that even my brother (who doesn't really like wine) drinks: Black Swan shiraz. It is quite reasonable. We also like their Cabernet/Shiraz blend. We really enjoy wine (maybe too much) and keep these type of wines for everyday use. We save the more expensive wines for special dinners.

Red wine is better on SB.

I tried a bottle of syrah last night...I loved it! It is the only red wine that I have found I really like. It is sweet but not too sweat, and not too dry.

Does shiraz taste similar? I'll have to try that next.

Syrah and shiraz both come from the same grape, the syrah grape, so they should be somewhat similar in taste. The Aussies seemed to have chosen shiraz as the name of their wine made from this grape. It is also a prime grape type of red Rhone wines from France, like a Cote de Rhone, although as typical of the French, it is often blended with other grape types from the same region as well.

I Miss My Wine!

Postby inkwretch » Tue Nov 02, 2004 12:51 am

Just starting the SBD this week after my MD told me my blood sugar had to come down, along with my weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, you name it.

Two weeks without wine (Phase 1) is seeming like a lifetime, especially as the weather turns cold and I'm used to having a nice glass of red by the fire. It is so comforting and relaxing at the end of the day, or during a nice meal.

I guess I'm going to have to find a new pleasure, at least for the time being.

What worked for you wine lovers?

We love a glass of wine before dinner. We thought that it would be hard to give it up, but it wasn't that bad. You just tell youself "no for now" and that you can have a glass in two weeks. Find something else to replace it. I think that it is good to learn not to rely on wine to relax at the end of a day and we still go for days without wine now. We drank a lot of water.

PS I do have to say that first glass after two weeks tasted so good. The only bad thing: 5 oz. is a serving and that isn't a very big glass. We sometimes had two glasses, but we tried to stick to the 5 oz.

beware of wines that contain fruit juice. some merlot and other blends do contain them. low carb wine is a fad. try to stick to chardonnay and cabernet preferably cabernet.

I love my wine! it was hard for me also. I decided to try perrier and lime. It wasnt as good as wine but it made me feel I was having a gin and tonic. It was refreshing and helped me. Oh god I feel like an alcoholic. but I am on phase 2 now and enjoying my cabernet!!
